No no no no & NO!! The Final Fantasy franchise, it doesn't matter which one you're talking about, doesn't need to be milked anymore then it already has been. Square needs to stop making spin offs to Final Fantasy games and generally milking their already successful franchises and start coming up with some new stuff already!
I agree wholeheartedly.

On a side note, my one big problem with the entire franchise is that you'd think having completely disconnected sequels would give them the freedom to you know...tell different stories.

Lets count up how many times a plucky ragtag group of underdogs help defeat a corrupt empire/company/ruler.

With that said, FF13 Versus (if the buzz is accurate) sounds like it'll be changing things up. Nice. You'd think a franchise with like, thirteen games with seperate universes would have even six different sorts of stories.

If only to explain the logic behind *cough*Leon's gunblade. If not, then no. Not that the FFVII spinoffs have really been worth much anyway.
There are actually real gunblades, it works with vibrations.

Yeah, that's Square, Squaresoft, Square Enix for yah...I can picture those Japs sitting around a table thinktank style going "This one's gonna be EPIC, more epic than the last... this time you're not gonna save a village....but a country! :p" And another guy butting in: "No, no...we still have to save teh whole Universe!".

As long as the story winds down to saving, protecting, rescuing, defending....a village, a country, the world, the galaxy, all existence... Final Fantasy isn't innovating shit.

No, I thought FFVIII was one of the weaker games. Most of the characters weren't even likable. I didn't care for the magic system and you couldn't level up everyone together, you had to keep switching people out.

This is why I hate (yes, HATE) Final Fantasy. Everyone is gushing about it and there are made a new spin off every frikkin' morning.
I normally don't care less for things I dislike, but when you get it thrown in your face everywhere by fans, I simply start to hate it. And I hate Final Fantasy with a passion now. No more spin offs. PLEASE!
So you hate Final Fantasy because it is being hyped by fans of the game?

I though people disliked my favorite game franchise because people weren't into that type of JRPG =/
I guess you're just weird :p

NONE of the Final Fantasies deserve spinoffs. Don't you all get it? A spinoff of those games RUINS IT.

The After Years for FF4 was terrible compared to FF4, and FF7 was a good game UNTIL THEY STARTED MILKING IT LIKE A SLUTTY COW. If you value FF8, then hope they DON'T make a sequel.

I for one think they need to extend their hands into other projects. Maybe help create more unique RPGs. Like Kingdom Hearts 3, for example. (some of you may think it's crap, but it beats the generic garbage)

Or better yet, SUPER MARIO RPG 2. There is so much promise, but Square keeps dismissing it.

Basically I hate JRPG really. While I love a good RPG :p
I think it's all that... anime-like aspect of JRPGS. Which is what I hate.
Anyway, yes. One of the reasons I hate FF is because all the hype it gets.
Of course I am weird :p Being normal is sooo last year.

No, FF8 was a terrible game in every conceivable way. I'm just going to leave it at that, I've stated my reasons on previous occasions.

I dont know why so many people talk about ffviii as a failiure, it sold loads and was critically acclaimed
Unfortunately I think we can expect EVERY FF game to "sell loads" and win "critical acclaim," despite the fact that it may indeed suck donkey balls (FFXII). I'm personally pretty concerned with FFXIII...

So long as the opening scene to the spin-off showed Squall being stabbed in the face with something death-inducing. Then suuuuure.... o_0

I've wanted an MMO based on Final Fantasy VIII for years. That's what they should have done with FFXIV, rather than just create a second FFXI. Hell, from what I've heard about how the job system and such works in FFXIV, I think they'd fit Final Fantasy VIII's world pretty well.

And I'd probably start out as a whip-specialist in Trabia Garden. :D

I won't be clamoring for FF8 spinoffs, it is my least favorite Final Fantasy game. (next to FFX-2, i don't even count that load...)

9 should get some spin offs (Since it draws from all kinds of classic Final Fantasy, it's a link to the past in a sense).

8...I dunno, its just a halfway between 7 and 10 in terms of style. And those two gameworlds are milked pretty damn hard.

This is only for those who thought the Story was awesome.
http://www.spoonyexperiment.com/category/final-fantasy-viii/

Check the last one. It might be a bit adult content in it, one of the first have a warning.

But really, the story have a lot of holes. Just check from the start to completely confirm it. He does rant about the gameplay now and then but the story gets the main beating. For a GOOD reason too.

Like, to stop Ultimecia to bend time, IS to let her bend time!

Wait what? :/ Isn't there a BETTER plan than that? Honestly?

But seriously, take a look at the Spoony review.

Now I did like FF8 when I played it. Leveling up, putting magic on your stats and just killing Cactuars with Quistis whip is just fun. Btw when you kill a Cactuar with the WHIP the cactuar goes into this STALE position like it got a whiplash. :D
Drawing was annoying but I could live with it.

Only the delusional people who thought FFVIII was somehow a good game would want this. I can't see much interest in this.
ouch no need to flame me for loving this game and cherishing it as my number 1 favorite game of all time why do people hate it for being a bit different

but no. a remake maybe dust it off, but spin offs I would think not

Imo 8 was terrible, for all reasons ever posted previously on this forum. (Search ff8). The only people that i know that liked 8 were the people that were just a little to young to enjoy 6 or 7 and 8 was their first jump onto the square bandwagon. But really...it was a pretty bad game in comparison. I can't think of any sort of spinoff that could be interesting. sorry.
I'm sorry sir I loved 8 and I had played final fantasy 4 and 6 before it and they were epic (7 was okay but not the godly masterpice people say its overrated in my opinion...) I have played pretty much every final fantasy game to date (including spin offs and such) and I find 8 to be the best
I'm torn on this myself. I don't think the game should have a spinoff or sequal because it was the worst FF of the series. The story was overly convoluted, the magic system was terrible, and the character development (especially between Squall and Rinoa) was abysmal and near nonexistant. Squall literally goes from not caring a bit about Rinoa (and not in the "Oh, I'm just pretending to not care cause I'm a badass" type of not caring, they really made him out to just not give a shit about her), to suddenly needing this woman and rushing headlong into life threatening battles for her for no apparent reason (the relationship wasn't ever cultivated). As a designer and writer myself, that title is a poor example of storytelling and system design.

That being said, what tears me is I WANTED that title to be good. There was SO much potential with the world itself and that was failed by poor storytelling and questionable design positions. If they did a spinoff, and actually developed the characters I would be for it. Perhaps if they focused on the relationship between Squall and Rinoa. Perhaps dove a bit more into her past and maybe showed things from her point of view.
