So it has been over a week since the game has been release and no one has made a thread on it?

Ok here goes nothing-

I just finished the game several minutes ago and overall, it has lived up to my expection and was worth the wait!!

The pixel artstyle I already loved, the music was atmosphere, the lack of guidance give you freedom to wander and go where you pleased.

I loved the LoZ:LttP sort of overworld and the combat was fast, challanging but fun. Needless to say I died quite a few times but just like Dark Soul, it's all about learning your enermies attack patterns!

As for the story itself was pretty much left ambiguous with only using pictures from the npc to guess what was going on. There seen to be a few theories going on at the moment to what really transpire when you start the game.

Granted I would says is that the first trailer is quite different to the actual game but hey I guess that was alpha game footage back then.

While the game itself seen short but the length feels right given what happened in it. Sadly however I will probably not give New Game + a go and move onto the next game now (I got a big list of unplayed games need playing) eventhought the remaining shard, modules and keys are hidden very well (like the heartpieces in LoZ).

So to those who have bought and played it, what do you think? A possible canditate for GoTY?

I'm a kickstarter backer and started playing it last weekend.
Frankly, I'm also surprised I haven't seen much about it. Even if the site management is collapsing and we probably shouldn't expect many reviews, normally there's a thread about it by now.

I'm rather enjoying it. The opening cutscene is weird as hell but I'm enjoying the game itself. Even getting murdered ever few minutes because apparently I'm not very good.

Out of curiosity, is there any explanation/context for the opening cut-scene by the end of the game?

I plan to finish it tomorrow since Dark Souls 3 launches after I get home from work Monday. Fucking loving it so far. I finished the North, West and am about half way through East right now.

I've finished the north and east areas and am having a lot of fun with it. Great presentation and atmosphere. Reminds me of Fez, another game I love. Combat is a lot of fun and flows really well. I love the combination of guns and melee and the way melee attacks refill your guns.

I fought the north boss first and it game me a bit of grief but I managed to pull through. The east boss ended up being surprisingly easy after that.

GOTY? Eh, we'll see how the year plays out. Maybe top 5 games of the year.

I'm not going to spoiler to much. All I can say is that I was still felt left in the dark at what actually transpire before you start the game (I sorta figure out what happened but not to the how, what or why it happened). I read a couple of fan theroies that made sense to me.

Funny thing is that I read that people went North and West first but I end up going East first!

I was kinda thick starting the game. I didn't observe my surrounding too well to notice that I was able to make those dash to the other side! So yeah I agreed that the East boss was the easist especially when I had no upgrades (by all means I still died a few times but I caught on its pattern on the first go)! West was quite tought.

All I can say is that there is a reason why South is block off until you complete the other three directions first.

I haven't played it, just saw a couple of vids on it, but from those few I decided not to get it, yet (or at all).

The style and colour/lighting design really puts me off. It just feels too light and soft. Same with the music, it does absolutely nothing for me.

Everything else looks alright though.

The Escapist is really behind when it comes to news, especially on the indie front. I first heard about the game form Polygon.

I heard there was a bunch of SJW-nonsense surround the game.

So, I decided "Eh, fuck it" and put it to the "Maybe one day" pile.

I didn't knew there was one until you mention it? In saying so it's not like I have a daily feed on the game and anything relating to it.

After you posted that, the only thing I got from it (typing the game name and SJW) is apparently they mention Zoe Quinn and Anita Sarkeesian in the credit.

That I cannot backup since I wasn't really paying attention to the credit names (heh on the kickbaker credits names, they added a scroll buttom to use which I was thankful for cos the list was LONG!).

Even then, who cares? Sure I hate Anita (I got no beef toward Zoe) but it didn't stop me from playing and enjoying the game!

Yep, been waiting for it since the start of the Kickstarter. It was really great. Had a different focus from what I was expecting and it changed a lot over the years. It's also quite small. But what is there is very, very good. Worth the wait? Yeah, I think so.

I'm in the middle of a sword only NG+ run right now, it's been a lot of fun.

There really isn't. Some people saw Zoe Quinn and Anita Sarkeesian got a mention in the special thanks section of the credits (You know, the section where teams generally thank their fans, friends and family) and they got bent out of shape. That's it.

OT: I've knocked over the 3 gem boss in the north and I've made a small push into the east, but haven't reached the boss yet. I still need to find a few more gems in the north to unlock the second gem door, but there are a couple areas I can't access yet. There's a keyed door that I can't unlock yet and there is a teleporter pad in one of the dungeons that is locked off that I haven't been able to get into.

I've been seeing the game around, but I haven't been seeing what makes the game worth buying yet. I do like the art style, but the combat seems a tad boring.

I probably just haven't seen enough into it yet and need to give it more time. I just don't know what I'm looking for yet.

Actually I'll ask one thing big I haven't had answered yet.
Can anyone tell me what type of game this is and what it does well? I have seen so little information that it looks like it could be almost anything.

Well, I'd put it in the ever vague category of action/adventure. It's kind of like a top down a Zelda but more about combat and less about puzzles. You spend your time wandering around fighting enemies and searching for all of the macguffins in each area.

The combat may not look that interesting to a spectator but I think it's pretty fun to play. People have been comparing it to Dark Souls, another game that doesn't have particularly interesting looking combat. It's not so much that it feels like Dark Souls but it does have a focus on learning enemy patterns, making sure you're dodging and counterattackimg and picking safe moments to heal.

Seriously?

The game has no dialogue at all and a intro sequence(which arguably has more plot then the rest of the game) that looks like a surrealistic acid trip/nightmare. There's nothing remotely political about it that I can tell after getting a decent chunk of the way in. I mean, other then the fact 90% of the people you meet are anthro-animals of some sort, but I didn't know "furries"=SJW. Or maybe SJW is the new word for any game that's remotely Artsy?

I don't know. I've never gotten a practical definition of what a SJW is supposed to be. Just like no one has ever satisfactory defined Hipster for me either. But apparently they are all horrible in some way.

Yeah, I suspect the people responsible for posting news stories were let go along with everyone else. Either that or someone really likes having pictures of Tracers ass on the front page for a week and a half.

Beat the game last night (just on time for Dark Souls 3). It was fantastic! My only criticisms are two-fold:

- I ran into a few bugs (fell threw some platforms and backtracking in dungeons sometimes glitched out barriered fights)
- The world map was somewhat sloppy in certain areas (mostly the East)

I think the game nailed the difficulty curve and the atmosphere was incredible. The story was also very sad :(

I hadn't heard about this 'SJW' stuff until seeing this thread. Just sounds like people looking for a reason to hate a popular Indy game. Can't say that's anything new.

I guess maybe because the game get criticized as a furry game and cause of that SJW jump in to defend it? I don't know anymore, I don't care. The game was really fun I must say.

Yes, I played it myself and I really digging the whole game.
Very enjoyable gameplay action using the sword and the dash to avoid and slash your enemies. Beautiful with any meaning of the world, make you literally just use the sit button to enjoy the pixel heaven before your eyes. Good level design with a lot of secrets to reveal which help you a lot becoming stronger and understanding[?] the story a little more I guess...
FInally the Bosses are AWESOME...minus the one specific one to the West. F*ck this Boss. However I will admit satisfying when at last I beat it.

Sadly It have a major problem with the people who want to play it with a keyboard: You dash only in the direction your mouse face, NOT with the directions of your Keyboard......Very serious problem which NEED fix ASAP!
The same goes when you use controler to use a gun: The stick you use to snipe the enemies is very sensitive and you miss most of the time...
Other problem I had for me anyway is the fact you can finish the game in 10-11 hours. I am very sure with all the secret become longer, but I really wanted the secrets to be part of the main game, not something extra. As far I know it have only one ending sadly.....

Other than that, Awesome game, glad I played it.

It combine the Gameplay Theme of 2D Zelda games, minus of the unique way you must defeat specific bosses. You only need pure skill by your part to win over the Bosses you oppose. This means you can really fight them even without any kind of update.
However with that said, the game combine the diffulty of Dark Souls games: Punishing, but fair...most of the times I guess [f*ck again the Boss in the West].....
You really need to know the patterns the Bosses have to win. Few hits from them and you are dead. Even the enemies can hit you and kill you in 3-4 hits.
You must go to 4 different kind of Areas looking to unlock some kind or tiles[?] and then kill the Boss. Plently of secrets as well.
The combet is very enjoyable, but using the gun is a little ackward sadly, but you get used to it in the end with specific guns you get [shotgun is the best choice for me].
If you want a comprehend story, then I DON'T suggest to buy it. Even when I finished the story, I didn't get the ending. Yes, I understood somehow the motives of the hero, but there are many things which make my head heart.

I hope I helped.

I got to the West Boss last night and was murdered about 10-15 times before finally giving up. Then I decided to come back later, so I went and finished up the east. I beat that Boss in about 5 tries, so I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates the Western Boss. I'll finish off the north before going back to take on the western boss, and hopefully he'll be easier once I've been able to buy more upgrades with the upgrade tokens I collect.

I was explaining the game to a friend as much the same. While the game does to enjoy seeing your bloody corpse hit the ground and throwing nasty traps and ambushes at you all the time, none of the mechanics seem unfair and the fact you can always warp to another hub(at the cost of respawning the monsters) and attempt a different area is a nice feature.

I keep seeing people compare this to Dark Souls, which I still haven't played yet. I guess I need to get on in the near future, after I finish HLD.

I beat it a couple of times and I quite like it. There are some bugs here and there, mostly the classic "Fell through the map" variety, but the art and sound are solid, and I liked the combat and exploration. It's a lot closer to a top-down Metroidvania than a Legend of Zelda. I kind of wish the map made more immediate sense, but it's workable. Their hints about where secret are tend to be subtle but noticable, but I still found myself smashing my face against every possible wall just to make sure I hadn't missed anything and still needing a guide to find a couple odds and ends.

The world itself is awesome though. It made me think of a weird mash-up between Samurai Jack and Evangelion, and I'd really like to see more done with it in the future.
