Solid Snake.

/sarcasm.

I don't know but not Gordon Freeman. I may be the only person yet to realise something good about that game. Thus far, it hasn't impressed me.

I'd say the guy from Oblivion, cause he's however badass or goodass you want him/her to be.

call me a prick, but I don't think there's such a thing as a "great silent protagonist" if they were so great, they'd have the ability to tell people to piss off when they don't feel like doing ***** work like "Hey, go flip that switch on the other side of the room because I don't want to." I'm an average guy and I could say "No, your legs aren't broken, jerk-face."

edit/addendum: or better yet, in dead space when Kendra calls you and she's all "oh god, what was that?!" Issac just keeps walking instead of saying "It's probably one of the five million things I've seen and killed, what the hell are YOU doing to make this situation better?!"

Voldo (Soul series). I wanted to say Gordon Freeman too but he's just Gabe Newell's Mary Sue persona: A scientist that can kick the asses of dangerous inter-dimensional aliens, trained soldiers, both of their dangerous armed vehicles and a freakishly gigantic fetus with a crowbar.

... Yeah I think that beats a woman trained in mystical martial arts taught by advanced birdmen, endowed and fully skilled in use of their power armour and can wipe the floor with a giant evil humanoid pterodactyl.

"That's like being the smartest kid with Down syndrome!" -Waiting.

There is no such thing as a greatest silent protagonist. They all suck. No one can identify or connect emotionally with a character that emotes nothing. Why even have a story if I'm supposed to ad lib lines for my dumb weak willed main character? Why don't I just fabricate my own dang story for the whole game and include decent characterization. End Rant.

I find that a silly question.

A silent protagonist rarely shows their personality, so what's the difference between them besides situation?
