Why does everyone love Gordan Freeman so much? You all must be really big fans of his left hand or something.
This is Freeman

just in case you didn't know...

I don't think it's about their personality, it's about their abilities and the things they do. I think people's choices are mostly based on which game is their favourite really.

I'm gonna go with Amaterasu from Okami because she's a wolf and she's a god.

The Rookie... He doesn't talk... Ever...
if you really think he's the best protagonist though? that's a weak choice
Gordon freeman already skulled master chief with the cro-bar no rookie stands a chance against him

Link, he was one of the first great silent protagonists. He is also the only such protagonist who needs two different voices, that as a kid and that as an adult.

What about all the games where you create your own silent protaganist, IE fallout 3 and oblivion, You talk as in words on the screen but you technically don't say anything aloud so ergo you are silent

I know how he looks on the box art and such....I guess I'm wondering because he has no traits at all to like or dislike. The main character of Half Life may as well have been a brick with nerd glasses taped to it. Would everyone on this forum be prattling on about how great Gordan Brick was? (that's a rhetorical question, of course you idiots would) The same goes for Link too. I admit these games were great and fun to play but I have no attachment to these characters (if that is what they are to be called) whatsoever.

EDIT: I can only attribute this fan base to a subconscious (or maybe conscious) homosexual attraction to the box art.

Gordon Freeman doesn't even scream when falling to his death or when being shot. The dude is the most silent of all silent protagonists.

Gordon Freeman is good and all but i think Revan from KOTOR is supreme here
Does Revan count though? Whilst technically he doesn't have a voice, he does speak to characters (unless of course they're all deluded maniacs who make up conversations with themselves).

Going by this, I'd say Gordy Freeman. After all, he doesn't need to say anything, only pure unadulterated physics.

Me.

I kid. I have to vote Link because I, unfortunately, haven't played Half Life.

Isaac Clarke from Dead Space. Yes, he's completely mute, but he's also a tragic character in his own right...

Not only has his girlfriend Nicole been dead all along throughout the entire game, but between his two allies- his only allies on the entire ship, mind, one dies horribly and the other betrays him and leaves him for dead. Twice.

And then Nicole jumps out of nowhere at Isaac at the end of the game and kills him.

Maybe.

Or maybe not.
