Naughty Dog, I've loved all of their games ever since I played Crash Bandicoot over 10 years ago.

Place and reason

1st Valve (Master Developer).

2nd Rockstar (reinvents and polishes the Open world Genre IMO)

3rd Rare (Goldeneye and..oh hell, the whole damn N64 library)

4th Bungie (Good connection with community)

5th Dice (great Multiplayer Dev besides the "whole Owned by EA" thing)

6th Ubisoft (besides a lot of BAD games. Prince Of Persia, Assassin's Creed series, Tom Clancy)

Team ICO and Valve come to mind.

But my personal favorite is probably Bioware or naughty dog.

Blizzard, loyal to the fans and have awesome games I've been playing most of my life. I couldn't ask for any more.
This, along with Valve, Icepick-Lodge Studios, Crytek, Looking Glass Studios and every indie developer.

If I had to choose only one..which is really fucking hard. I would have to say Blizzard. They just put out such amazing, long lasting, addicting games. Diablo is like..my crack. So yea, Blizzard is where my loyalty lies.

The other 2 developers that come really really close is Valve and Nintendo.

valve has a way of bringing originality into genres that have been remade so many times, and being totally sarcastic and taking itself seriously with a deeper message at the same time. valve has also created the pc gaming market into what it is today, and unlike other developers in their field they are able to continually make great games while managing the entire pc game market with steam, and working to expand the gaming market to mac.

bungie has created themselves into a total legacy and have corrected themselves from doing what other developers have done wrong, and ending the halo's story at the beginning with reach was a great idea.

pandemic studios is long gone- but they were able to produce amazing games while they were still there. like valve, they were able to incorporate unfamiliar ground into creative wasteland game genres, if they werent downsized by EA like they were they might be on the mainstream market right now.

bethesda... as of today they are an amazing source of originality because of their ability to push all of their effort into one game at a time- a quality that large companies lack. after the success of fallout 3 I am hopefull that they will maintain that as they gain popularity.

out of all of them valve has the most potential because almost all pc manufacturers rely on them, and they are showing that instead of rereleasing a game without reason, they wait until they have an innovative idea that will make the game better. I am not saying that bungie does not show the same quality, I expect great things from them too, same with bethesda. with news of mercs inc. a year back maybe pandemic's creative designers will get lucky and we will see more out of them, considering EA backs them up with all the money they would otherwise be pouring into uncreative crap like metal of honor.

Bethesda and Insomniac are by far my favorites.

Also, Arc System Works has made my favorite fighters ever.

Bioware all the way. I find their games very engaging; the attention Bioware pays to the story and characters creates a very fulfilling experience.

For me it's a three way tie between, Valve, Rockstar Games and Insomniac Games.
Valve has Half Life, L4D and Portal.
Rockstar has GTA, Red Dead and Midnight Club.
Insomniac has Spyro the Dragon and Ratchet and Clank.

This depends on your question. Are you asking for our favorite developers personally, or which developer we think is objectively the 'best'?

If it is the former, then I would say Bioware, as I simply love the skill and detail that goes into creating the narrative in their games. They actually make me stop and think for a while every time I come to one of those moral choices.

However, if it is the latter, as in, who is objectively 'the best' then it would more likely be either:
Valve: for the best record of successful games to failed games. (i.e, lots to none)
Blizzard: for financial success. Seriously, WoW makes more money than some companies do themselves. (not even Halo makes as much)
Or
Microsoft: Yes they are a developer, and they are only here because they have grown so large from successes and have the largest amount of resources available. They also bought halo, which was a smart move in my books.

Sakaguchi's Square. I loved all the games Square made when he was in charge.

While I really like Valve as a studio I'm not that fond of their games. I loved Blizzard since before it was born when it was Silicon and Synapse. Rock and Roll Racing was golden.
