They are employed by The Escapist, I suppose you would have to apply.
Well seeing as the mods tend to be members of the community before they become mods, I think the position is offered to them. I know Alex wasn't always a mod, and from what I can gather from old threads neither was Nil. I would guess They were offered the position by being well behaved members of the community, I could be wrong though, you'd have to ask them.
Correct, the mods were members of the community that showed balance, understanding, and could make unbiased judgements and genuinely wanted the forums to be the best place possible. Nilcypher, Alex_P, and wilsonscrazybed are not paid employees of the Escapist or Themis Group though, they are volunteering their valuable time for all of us.
how long do you have to wait to volunteer, and what requirements do you need to fill? XD
because ive been interested in being a red guard for a while now, just no idea how to ask

First of all, grammatical and spelling ability is a must. Second, you do not ask about FightClub joining the Guard. You are chosen, that is all.
Even I am ineligible because of my strong religious bias, and I have been banned several times before.
You may also notice the common ratio of Posts-Smileys for users older than 13 months on the forum is less than 0.02.

Candidates are taken to the top of mount olympus, once there they are tested by zeus to determine their intelligence, when they pass they are teleported to the Colosseum where they do battle against the fiercest of trolls. Then on to hades where they must fight the flamers of hell. If they survive, they become a mod.

And once again, I will say - You've never struck me as the kind who is ridiculously biased towards people without faith.

Then again, maybe I just haven't seen it.

Anyway, this thread is good for my brain - I've been wondering as well. Though of course I'd never be a mod - too many suspensions.
No offense but you would be the Gestapo of mods im sure.

A mod is determined by post number e.g. Post ending in 69 becomes a mod. It is how mods have been picked since the beginning of time.

Not really. I'd probably just ban obvious trolls and everyone who yells "FURST" on any video, ever.
Stuff like that.
Just wait till you become corrupted. And im gonna stop now as i have derailed too many topics over the last day.

Never give power to the guy who wants it, you give it to the guy who you have to drag away kicking and screaming because he'll be trying to get a leave of absence for a job well done.

I heard that somewhere in Australia theres a gasstation where you can buy scratch cards that can have the Escapist logo on them. If you scratch 3 Escapist logo's. BAM! You won moderator priviledges!

They steal people's babies at birth then train them up through their adolescent years before letting them loose on the forum battleground with a fire extinguisher and a banhammer.

That's what they want you to think. The mole people are just a facade. In reality, it's lizardmen from Alpha Centauri.
Does it matter? If it means one day we can rise up and create a gaming society and country i'd happily follow Mole People or Lizardmen :p

Incidently the real brains behind the operation is an intelligent Apple Pie.
Apple Pie? what are you talking about it isn't them lot.

no no, the whole things organised by the Rights for Giant Invisible Robots in Tenesee campaigners.

The process is that when the moderator team think another moderator is needed they think of people that would make a good moderator, and invite them. So moderators don't ask for the position, they get asked if they'd like to do it.

We can probably be bribed though.
