I can't believe that noone's said it yet...One of the most intelligent and well-spoken sons of bitches out there, and not one of you...

Having to choose one man: Neil DeGrasse Tyson or Stephen Fry. Probably Stephen Fry.
Having the option to choose me: Me, yelling "GET ME THE HELL OUT OF HERE!" in a falsetto, sobbing lightly.
FINALLY! Jesus! I don't know who Stephen Fry is, but I whole-heartedly vote for muthafuckin' Neil deGrasse Tyson. He's just as well-spoken as Morgan Freeman, but leagues more intelligent. If we wanted to make a good impression, there'd be a great start.

NOTE: I am not saying that Mr. Freeman isn't intelligent. It's just that he's a famous actor with a smooth, deep voice, while Mr deGrasse Tyson is a goddamned astrophysicist.

captcha: tall building ....Huh.

EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Fry Ohhhhhh, so THAT's who Stephen Fry is! I liked him in V for Vendetta.
I've always disliked Dr. Tyson, for some reason. I find him obnoxious.

OT: I'd say we should do Jimmy Carter. I never liked him as a politician or a President, but the guy has worked all of his life to ensure World Peace and security. He's pleasant, well-meaning, and he'd likely be able to hit it off well with the aliens.

A trio of Earths finest.
Stephen Hawking - He's a smart mo'fo and has probably thought this through a lot better than anyone else.
Notch - Almost everyone would get behind him, and he showcases humanities creativeness pretty well.
Neil Patrick Harris - He's dreamy, no alien overlord could hate him.
I second Steven Hawking.. I'm amazed that this hasn't been put forward!

The aliens might have a better chance at figuring out what the fuck he is saying half the time.
I second this.

Boris has also likely spent millions of the taxpayer's money on some sort of doomsday weapon, just in case First Contact goes tits up.
You have my concurrence with this also. Seriously, though, he's actually eligible for Presidency of the USA, let's make THAT happen. O:

I have a strong suspicion that any alien race we meet is also going to be somewhat fractured. The only realistic way to get a whole planet under one nation is massive genocide, which isn't a ice thing to do. Sure, they may have a much more effectual version of the UN, but they'd understand that we have separate nation-states.

Sigourney Weaver, with Arnold Schwarzenegger and a chopper as backup.

I thought of Stephen Fry too, at first. Then I realised, if they landed on our planet, it wouldn't be for peace. Peace talks are held on neutral ground. Peaceful aliens will observe us from a distance 'til we're ready to stop blowing each other up and meet them up in space.

Aliens who land, wish to destroy us. We need to be prepared.

He is our only logical option.
Logical and smart, yet fluid in his speach.
I for one still wish he was pope.

Why should we expect them to be able to hear what we say?

I think we should build a robot to do it for us. Have every country make one part of the robot per percent of the human population they represent. We already build most of our shit in asia anyway.

I'd have to say the UN, representatives from pretty much every country. That or Steven Hawking.

Another vote for Morgan Freeman, he could give the aliens an amazing narration on our history, technology, and culture.

"heavily inspired" from infiniminer, tells anyone else who did this that they are blatantly ripping off him. He showcases our creativeness, but that's something we don't want to show.

OT: Neil deGrasse Tyson. If they turn out to be stronger than us, he has his meme ready!
