Who Would Pirate the One-Cent Humble Indie Bundle?

I haven't bought the bundle, and I won't, but I'll explain that later on. Now, if I were to get these games I would pirate it. Why? Because I don't have a credit card. Now, if debit became a suitable currency on the internet, I'd happily pay them five to ten dollars for the bundle. But nobody does, so until debit becomes feasible, or PayPal accepts bank details, I won't blame people who pirate for that reason.

Of course, the douchebags that just do it for kicks or because they're too much of a dick to give money to charity, may they lose their fingers in a terribly ironic computer-related accident.

Because after spending thousands of dollars on a new gaming PC, probably thru a credit card/ BANK ACCOUNT LINKED TO PAYPAL (cough cough don't have a credit card use this smart ones cough cough)a penny is far, far too much to spend on anything.

Why do people pirate this stuff? Simple. They want to look like internet tough guys. Its sad, yeah, but this is what people do when you give them complete anonymity.

Hmm. Wow, it's hard to believe that pirates would be this unprincipled. Man, it's almost like the rationalizations that pirates use for their behavior (DRM, price, etc) are actually just flimsy pretenses to get stuff for free. Can you possibly imagine that?!
Most of my pirate asshole friends don't have a credit card.
So... get a friend to do it, and pay them back? Use paypal? Don't acquire the damn games?

It really blows my mind that pirates don't seem to have a concept of "If you can't afford it, you don't get to have it."
While I agree, and yes, i am arguing for the sake of arguing here.

"Pay what you want". I'm sure the guys didn't say "Pay nothing" but it does say it.
Well, they're not crying themselves to sleep over the people who want to pay nothing. Which I love by the way - it's such an accidental guilt trip. But seriously? Even if they don't want to give the devs anything for their stellar work, they could at least drop some loose change on the charities.
Ahh, but now you're assuming pirates actually care as much as you or i.

You assume this is pirates using a public torrent site. If I recall "serious" pirates use private sites.

And of course, people can just post the download links everywhere.

Come on guys, I don't care about pirating, and sometimes even endorse it; but these games are ONE CENT AND GO TO CHARITY! There's a difference between being able to say "Oh, games today are too expensive and if I don't want to go broke, I have to pirate" and basically saying through actions "I'm a greedy whore!"

Is it really that hard to just pay one fucking cent?

I think the bigger problem here is even though they didn't pay the 1 cent for it, they essentially stole 1 cent from the charity it was going to be donated from.
Not quite. If you send that little money, it's essentially going to be eaten up by the service transferring the money (they aren't doing that for free, you know). The only one benefitting would be Paypal, Amazon or Google. I don't remember what the amount for Paypal was but it was something like 30 cents before they actually started sending money to the guys you're supposedly paying to.

Paypal does accept bank details.

Does the same go for a credit card or a mail-in check? If the comapny saw the one cent donation, would they send the one cent to a charity? I think they would take into account the fees, and if they said when you donate a penny, the penny goes where you want it to, there is no reason to think they were misleading or not taking that into account.

I payed a dollar for this because I literally can't afford any more than that. An offer like this is too good to pass up.

Now excuse me while I go install Splinter Cell Conviction which I of course acquired totally legitimately... *sarcastic laughter*

I'm guessing it is the crowd of people who don't have a credit card or a PayPal account. Their only way to get the bundle is through pirating.

For the record I just donated $10 to this project. I bought 2 links (one for myself, and a gift for my stepmother, both for $5). One of the things I will say is that those pirating this are not just screwing the developers, they are also arguably robbing charity because that is what this promotion is being "donated" to (50% to creators, 50% to charities).

Of course my inner greed has me wishing Spiderweb software would donate some of their games to such a promotion, if they have I've never noticed it. :p

Probably mostly true..

but I know my card doesn't allow me to make a purchase under 5 or 7 dollars, some weird number.

If i do make a purchase below the set amount, I am charged an extra tax of like 10 bucks.

Not sure how it is with anyone else though.

Im sure the pirates are just kids, or guys with no credit cards. Seeing as you cant walk into the store and give them a penny for it, it's bound to be pirated.

You know what's irritating? Amazon won't let you pay with money you have on one of their gift cards. Seriously, I have money registered to my account, I shouldn't need to use a credit card!

I'll just chalk this up to more evidence that pirates are just cheapstake douchebags. They use excuses rather than convictions to rationalise their downloading.

I've found that once people start pirating, they pretty much stop caring...
So don't take it so personal, they could care less if the pack was worth one buck or one hundred, people would still pirate it.

I have a friend that is on a private torrent server that requires you to seed something for it to let you download, so he got a program that faked his upload ratio, in his favor though the upload speed here is terrible (12kb/s at best).

Not to mention all of the people that make a living out of selling pirated games, music of movies right in the street.
