I have my disagreements with him sometimes and I agree with what him other times. Quite a bit of the time though I just haven't played the game he reviews and I don't have an opinion.
Pretty much this for me.

I bought Darkest of Days based on his review, and I actually loved it! The only thing I have against it is that one level of the Civil War mission line, the saves don't fucking work. That level was fucking annoying and when I try to load a checkpoint, it loaded me back to the FUCKING BEGINNING OF THE FUCKING LEVEL!!! I will buy the game again, but for the PC so I can cheat my way through that one damn level.

Do you always agree with Yahtzee?
Most of the time. I don't agree with his opinion of psychonauts, I though that was a dumb game, but for his GTA4/SR2 and Silent Hill 2 opinions, I believe he has it spot on

i understand his perspectives always, but i just play to enjoy more than anything. thats why i love halo, thats why i love mario kart and anything basically fun. and the humor is an inspiration, but i end up producing perspiration...

I watch for entertainment, not specifically game tips. Although, he does help from time to time in pointing out the faults in a game. Mercenaries 2, he pointed out the faults and I still got it. I sort'a like it too.

I just watch to ZP to laugh at an overgrown British man-child, I've only ever played about ten of the games he's reviewed and regardless of whether or not I agree with his views on a game it's still hilarious.

im sorry, but i have to say when heard you say anti yahtzee it sounds like anti nazi, and pro nazi, just throwing that out there. now then.

i didn't think anyone took his reviews seriously, there's no way they're made to actually review games, and are obviously for comedic skits. hes a comedian people, who also happens to comediacise his game reviews.

OK, this is the first time I've commented without reading replies first, so I'm sure I"m repeating. But, screw it, I just wanna respond to the question posed. I indeed came upon the escapist thanks to ZP, and I love Yahtzee, but I don't just agree with him because it's yahtzee. I have watched every ZP, and never commented on any of them, but I've only played one of the games he's ever reviewed, and then my reaction was, "It's funny because it's true!" I have always taken ZP as humor first, review distant second. I believe there must be a true critique within all his reviews, and I actually respect his opinions, but I get that ZP works the best when he can get the most mileage out of the negative aspects. That's all. It's absurd that anyone would form their own opinion based only on Yahtzee's review.

the way i see it he is getting paid to tell us what he thinks about the game. at the same time he has to keep it funny or he would just be another guy on the internet yelling about games that he doesn't like. so i guess what im saying is i agree with him and i dont think to hard about it when he hates on games either

While he has pointed things out that make me thing "holy crap, he's right about that", I don't agree with Yahtzee too much. I still find him hilarious, but I don't think humor equals truth.

If it hasn't been said yet (I'm too lazy to read 4 pages) my opinion of Yahtzee's opinion is that his position is NOT in opposition to the fans of the game being reviewed, rather in opposition to the DESIGNERS of said game. Personally, I have played many of the games that he's reviewed. His opinions have never mattered to me, nor should ANY critic of ANYTHING have an opinion that matters to ANYONE. That being said, he's taken the piss out of many games that are on my all-time favorite list yet I find myself and my taste uninsulted by his nitpicking. I have always been aware of the pitfalls of those game experiences, but I feel that the positives of those games more than outweighed the negative. However to his credit, I agree that the game obviously WOULD be better without them. Your job as the viewer is to know the difference between these two statements, using QTE's as an example:

1: "This game sucks because It has Quick-time events."

2: "I personally don't like this game because it has Quick-time events. In my opinion, QTE's don't belong in an FPS."

Even though we're both aware the above statements are lacking in Yahtzee's trademark crass verbosity, let's pretend that he's talking about a game that you've never played. If you decide to get the game because you don't like Yahtzee, fine. If you DON'T get the game because you're a Yahtzee fanboy, whatever. The important thing is, now you know the game has QTE's. Now comes the part where you decide for YOURSELF if QTE's are a dealbreaker.

In closing, I don't care what you think about his reviews... but I sure as hell hope game designers take his commentaries salt-free.

My friend didnt even know that there were other 'proper' reviews on the site, he thought ZP was the only one and that Yahtzee's word should be taken for gospel...'oh dear' was what I was thinking, 'another fanboy'.

OT: I watch Yahtzee for the laughs mainly, and I dont take his reviews too seriously, as he is there really to point out stuff in games that other reviewers might put a little more nicely. (Probably repeating what has already been said)

I have my disagreements with Yahtzee, but the reason why he is my number one and (at this point) ONLY source of gaming advice is because he's an incisive, erudite, witty mofo who not only understands the underpinnings of how videogames work and how they're fun but has a respect for them as works of art beyond their entertainment/cathartic value(i.e. he's an uncloseted games-are-art fag). And all of that on is top of being a comic genius. That's the reason he ranks above all the other game reviewers in the world. He's saved me hundreds of dollars worth of crappy games I'll never buy. I only wish I watched his reviews before I paid for a month's worth of EVE Online (that obnoxiously boring grieferfest was one of the most disappointing ventures of my gaming life). That's all I have to say.

I don't ALWAYS agree with him. There are some games I like he doesn't, and vice-versa (for example, I'm pretty keen on Devil May Cry 4, even though technically it wasn't that good by design standards, and I couldn't care less about Saints Row 2) but I tend to agree with him when it comes to, say, multiplayer, and that games ought to stand on single-player alone without relying on multiplayer to hold it up.

So there are some ways he's awesome and some ways he's...well, someone I disagree with, and anyone who takes it too seriously either way - haters or fanboys - need to chill it the fuck out.

He is funny and his reviews aim for humor so i don't take him to seriously.

(though i haven't played a final fantasy past 6 i agree with his review of ff13. a game shouldn't take 20 hours to get goood)

Well i never choose one way or the other with what yahtzee says about a game. i wait until i can play the game and make that decision for myself. the reason i say that is that one game that might seem like a bad game to one person, might be a blast for someone else. its like the saying "one mans trash is another mans treasure"

To be honest, I only watched Zero Punctuation for the laughs, which is not to say I agree/disagree with him. If I'm watching a review of a game I've already played, I find myself agreeing with him more often than not (doesn't mean I am even half as annoyed as he is with anything/everything), but if it's a review of a game I have yet to play, I rarely let his opinion dissuade me from trying it out myself.

Long before I heard of ZP I often found myself playing what were considered by many to be the best games of the time such as Halo 3 and GTA 4 and thinking "Wow this is rubbish. But I don't know anyone who agrees with me so maybe games just aren't for me anymore." Then I saw his review for Mass Effect 2 and found he had basically the exact same gripes I did. Hooray, a game reviewer who actually includes being a total hard ass as part of his shtick. I even used to email magazines complaining about the leniency of their reviews and the fact I could predict which games they would give an automatic 10 (5, whatever) to.
