Friends, Romans, countrymen...

Why do we heap hot coals upon these young inquisitive minds who seek to understand why one phenomenon or another is despised? Why do we not leave them to pursue those answers unfettered?

Why, I ask you?

Edit: Why?

Another bitchy thread. Fuck this.

But seriously, it's probably because they feel that such threads bring up little discussion value, or take up another spot on the message boards which could have been better utilized by a better topic.

Or because we have nothing better to do except ***** about stuff.

Meh. My biggest annoyance is seeing the "Finish your own topic" threads.

Usually starts something like "You find a bag..." or some such, then leaves you to create the dilemma and solution.

Fixed. Which is also the answer to the threads in question. Hate, like love needs no real definitive reason behind it. Someone can just hate something because they do and/or have chosen to.

1. If they know something is unpopular, than they must have already heard plenty of opinions as to why that is. Thus, the question "Why all the hate on ____?" is probably unnecessary. If the person is in the minority opinion, then that's fine and all (Believe me, I have plenty), but is it worth making a topic over?

2. Personally, I'm just really damn sick of seeing the words "Why all the hate" pop up in these forums every 5 minutes. Can we at least try to think of some original titles?

Because the young and inquisitive minds are assuming that we hate something. Like whenever I see a very Republican poster who assumes everyone here is a liberal. You are identifying an entire website to one viewpoint, and that gets a bit upsetting.

I think "hate" is an understatment, can't we just say we don't like it?

Because they have all been done before. People are too fucking lazy to use the search bar and look it up. Especially with the stupid halo one when the game came out last year and we all talked about it then.

Because they're all more examples of somebody not understanding how opinions work and you can only explain that people are allowed to disagree on things so many times before it gets really tiresome.

I can't tell you how many times I come to these forums (or go anywhere on the internet) and see this exact same series of threads and arguments: "I liked this game, therefore it is a good game." "I hated this game, therefore it is a bad game." "But I liked it." "But I hated it." "But it's good." "But it's bad." "Everyone who hates it is just a butthurt fanboy crying over spilt milk." "Everyone who likes it is just a blind sheep sucking the developer's teat."

I don't know what it is that makes the concept of subjective opinions, personal preferences or individual taste so difficult for certain people to grasp. That's why there's no need for "why all the hate?" threads, or, for that matter, any of the "I hated X therefore it sucks" threads either. All it is is immature people presenting their opinions as if they are objective facts to a community that actually does understand what an opinion is that then has nothing to do with this information, except to say, "One more member liked this game. Good for them?"

So yeah, basically it's just pointless and irritating.

For one, they're annoying.

Oh wait, thats it. Yes everyone is entitled to their opinion, but that doesn't stop it from being annoying as hell.

At least you admit it. Sometimes I think there are no original ideas left, so why even bother

Will that thread have Leo and a massive special effects budget? If so, I can't wait for that it.

This entire thread has turned into a paradox. I must go into the corner and recite lines from Red Dwarf now.

Enjoy your meal!

As far as I am concerned you can. I oversimplified my views using your post. I never read those threads really anyways. This one caught my eye because of the irony intended behind the title. WHat sucks about the threads in question IMO is that mechanics and design features are rarely brought up without trollish intentions. The threads lack any kind of "stepping outside your paradigm" to evaluate the game. Liking a game and admiting if it is good or not is actually 2 different things. I like Minecraft, but will confess it isn't a good game. I don't like Mario Galaxy or inFamous but I will concede they are both good games.

Intelligent evaluations are seldom seen in the video game community and are often met with malice when they do show up. When an actual well thought out intelligent view on something is posted the thread dies quickly most of the time. Most of the 'discussion' on these very forums are based more on argument than discussion. To me "WHy all the hate..." has more potential than "What character would you..." and similar threads.

I don't really know what else to say. It'd be like asking why the sun came up, or why dogs bark.

Dumb questions aren't really looked on favorably...ever? Yeah, never.

Indeed :D

I think it's because people in general are really opinionated and often feel the need to shove that opinion down peoples' throats... most hate seems unwarranted, but I do understand some.
