Every time I hear someone raging over a game I always think "Is this necessary?". How does something that is suppost to be entertainment invoke such anger in some people.

I'm talking about this sort of stuff:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxdkJ9G3fsk&feature=related

I admit I do get angry if I am strugling at a game but never to the point of sreaming at the screen or to people over chat.
Do you think that raging to extreme is really necessary or should people just suffer in silence.

EDIT: My favourite example-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIoA7RaPgtU&feature=related

I know. It doesn't make much sense to me. Why would you play a game which makes you that mad?

Hahahah, these are great comedy. People so serious, why would you rage over chat where people can see your idiocy.

Second one isn't really rage though, third one is just retarded, so glad I've never played Halo, I didn't realize it was that awful(EVERYONE talking is retarded).

Meh, it just happens in online games. It's competitive, so it evokes emotions. And because you're not bound by the rules of normal social interaction, you vent your anger instead of keeping it bottled up, which is essentially a good thing. But I agree that if you go completely crazy like some people do, you shouldn't play the game.

Gaming a super cereal.

I also have never started yelling at people over chat. I don't think that raging is necessary however people shouldn't just take it. There is a nice way to say that I am on your team, please stop shooting me in the back.

People can respond to games how they like. Some use them as a "safe" way of relieving aggression. Others see them as pure entertainment. I talk to my screen characters all the time, often telling them off if the controls are clunky. I think offloading onto co-players is rather uncaring, and that they will definitely run out of people willing to play with them soon! But as for yelling while playing when no-one else will hear or suffer - why not?

That's just shameful. I'll admit that I do get angry at games at times (generally multiplayer never single player), but I'd never get that angry. Sure I would curse occasionally and be annoyed if someone used a cheap tactic, but I wouldn't scream my fuckin' head off.

I understand where your comeing from but I still don't see the point. I mean it's entertainment, entertainment is not suppost to make you angry.

Yep, never understood it myself. What I really don't understand is people who rage during games.
Like when they can't hit a rock band note and they fling their drumsticks at their tv. Or when they get killed on XBL and they throw their controller at a wall.

erm...anger management much? It's just a game?

I do get angry when a game is hard and I keep dieing, but it wont go to the point like where those people in those vids are.... When it's a real rage.

Though I have to admit that I've gotten to the point where I just throw something/beat something/curse incredebly loud. That kind of rage however, only occurs in FPS games, theres just something about them that gets me angry way quiker when I'm dieing alot.

I often fake-rage in ventrilo for the lulz, always trying to create the most original insults, but that's just entertainment for the people in vent.
Yes, I'm somewhat of a clown.

Too many people like that plague our overall community. Y'know, dumb nerds with no social skills who feel entitled to do well and rage the fuck out if they don't. I never got the whole "nerd rage" thing a lot of people talk about, despite being a pretty big nerd.

People who can't just play the game. Hah. It's hilarious, one of the reasons one should be an asshole in games that allow you to, just for the sake of imagining how people might rage out.

YOUR MISERY FEEDS ME.

Why all the "why the hate?" threads on these forums :|

Being the anonymous person behind a computer screen lets you be anyone. Young people are like that these days.

It's simple really. In today's games you're generally not a tycoon, farmer or anything - you're mostly a dude with a gun shooting other dudes with a gun. It's aggressive by it's own very nature. Going out and shooting, stabbing or otherwise hurting someone out there IRL requires that you're either very, very mad at the person, scared or a psycho. In a small part this applies to the videogame world too.

Now what happens when you just got a lovely entry&exit wound in your lower abdomen and you're actually able to smell just how bad human intestines - yours in fact - reek? You're probably emotional about it. Since this is a video game, it's all on a much smaller scale.

Then there's the simple, obvious aspect. You got killed, someone didn't. If you're raging about it, then it's probably not just a single death or an accidental one - it's either a very, very humiliating death or a death streak. Basically that proves that in terms of that game, you're inferior to the people who're gracefully wiping the floor with you. They're superior and you, possibly despite hundreds of hours of practice and all that lost time, you're simply worse.

Some people deal with defeat perfectly and can happily accept living their lives full of fail, underachievement, lack of faith in oneself. Some people don't care about getting killed in a videogame because they have other, more important areas that they are better at. Some don't pay any attention to the deaths and don't really care whatsoever, regardless of anything else.

It's our nature - repeatedly trying and failing at any activity causes anger.

It's not that hard to understand.

Especially if there are people out there to spectate your failure, yeah.

I used to MUD/MUCK/MUSH a lot and I really enjoyed it but I discovered the inevitably the admins have a group of friends who play and there are consistently dodgy decisions made in favour of their friends. When you question or criticise the admins for their blatant favouritism you're banned/told off, and normally the reason is that it's their game and they'll run it however they like. Normally I that makes me angry but I just vote with my feet and leave, and if enough players do likewise then that game dies. Sad, but true. What really irks me though is seeing those same admins whining in forums a few years later about how unfair it was that their game nose-dived. I know that pointing out the obvious would go totally over their heads since they have no idea that a referee is supposed to be impartial and promote everyone's enjoyment.

*shrug* Oh, and I also get peeved if I buy a game and it sucks. That's a waste of money.

I could barely watch those videos it makes me cringe so much. I wonder what those people think when they see these and actually hear what they're like?

I never get angry at anyone in a game. If it's a CO-OP and we all die, it's 'oh damn', but then you start over and try again. If it bothers you that much, leaving the game saves grey hairs!!

No idea why people get that like. I've experienced someone shouting calling everyone 'fucking retarded' because HE got killed (like it was anyone's fault but his own)

I love watching these angry rage vids. Rage comes natural. Just remember people havea life outside of games they could also have serious mental disorders.
