I wouldn't say NecrovisioN is a WWI game, it just tacks spikes on the helmets of Wehrmacht soldiers and says "ta da! Kaiserheer!" Before running off to steal more setpieces from Doom.

3. Fight in the streets of Stalingrad, again. As for Africa, I suggest Call of Duty 2, which has an extensive British campaign in North Africa, and Codename:panzers Phase 2, which takes place almost exclusively in North Africa. (And also the Shrapnel Games war games, and the Hearts of Iron grand strategy series.) As for other theatres, the flight sim IL-2 Sturmovik features basically everything that ever happened in WWII - there's campaigns for every major player, minor power and every other nation that ever had a plane in the air during that time. There's career modes for the Finnish, Dutch, New Zealand and Slovakian air forces, among others.
*snap* Dang it! Stalingrad! Knew I forgot something. And yes, there are certainly a few games that venture into the other arenas, though the five or so of 183 isn't exactly a majority.

Another good point, or series thereof, lots of advances during WWII, making for lots of variety. Not just in weapons, but vehicles and communications, etc. Again, not always realized in the games, though.

No one should forget the bloodiest, most destructive conflict in human history.
A lesson in what happens when governments get out of control.

Only 183? I thought there would be a lot more. But I would like to see more WWI games.
Try Snoopy vs. The Red Baron. It's a light-hearted flight simulator taking place in WWI.

I can gladly? say I have never owned a WWII shooter.
I had no idea that there were this many though.

I'd really like a game based on Vietnam. Obviously, in the game there would be differing viewpoints on whether they should actually be fighting the Vietnamese at all, but that shouldn't matter. It already happened. If the U.S. still wants to think that the Vietnam War was the right thing to do, that's fine, but game designers shouldn't be bound to that.

You also have to remember that, in addition to the firearms advancements, there were a lot of aviation advancements made during this time even before you count all the prototypes that Germany haphazardly slapped together in the hopes of staving off defeat.

Because the USA loves to glorify the only time they made themselves useful in the modern ages.

No seriously. The wars after WWII, the USA should have just stayed out of.

Mostly due to the fact that WWII was the last time the Americans fought an army worth bragging about.

Just one thing I need to add here, it's a lesson that is photogenic enough that you can make a game out of it. Rawandan Genocide, most of the Cold War, Iraq War, those are lessons in an out of control government. The problem is that they would make really bad games.

Hey, don't diss the Messerschmitt. That was an amazing plane for that time.

Those games would be instantly banned without a second thought.

Wow. I didn't know the number was that high.

I would also like to point out that EVERY. SINGLE. WAR. DOCUMENTARY. EVER. has about a 85% chance of being about WWII. About 5% chance of being Vietnam or WWI (each), and the last 5% is just "other wars. Like maybe the Crusades". And the worst part, there's very little difference in what all these documentaries say about the war. None of them have the revelation that I've been waiting for for my whole life of "Hitler was secretly a Frenchman/Gundam/Terminator who decided the best way to kill that one guy he was supposed to kill was to kill everyone on earth". No, it's all "And Hitler killed the Jews", "And Hiter was winning but then he wasn't and no we're maybe not going to talk about how Russia totally fucked his shit up like they did to Napoleon", "And it was shitty to be in Britain at the time", or anything of the like. There, I just told you what every WWII documentary is about.

I agree, we need to move on. Stop making the games, they get repetitive and boring after a while. Stop making the documentaries, we know what happened, just about the whole damn continent of Europe likely has the war in their history books/classes, as do we Americans. We know. Now tell us about WWI, or about the Korean War, or all of the Crusades (yes, all of them.). Personally, I think a game set during the Vietnam War could be really good. As long as you're cool with having/letting your character, regardless of side, commit horrid atrocities. And seeing/showing the true brutality of the war. Same for, really, any war. Hell, if someone did a WWII shooter that wasn't just "Good guys kill bad guys, woo woo", but more "Good guys kill bad guys and do/see horrible things along the way", it could be really good. I'd say something about "make a game on trench warfare" but that would be entirely based around "Not contracting diseases from all the dead corpses of your friends" and "Wait for them to charge like total morons and then shoot them all down."
