I don't understand why everyone keep saying that it would be boring because of the trench warfare. Yes most of the stuff in the trenchs is crap and would be a bad game. Thankfully this is a game not a documentary, so we can ignore all tha crap and focus on the usable stuff. Some levels could be the desperate leapfrog from one cover to the next as you advance on a trench, followed by the chaotic close quaters battle to actually take the trench. Downplay their crappyness to give us some good tank battles. Include levels from the begining and end of the war, where the battle were much more open fields like WW2. A level where you are one of the lucky soldiers to have a working gas mask and must defend a trench, or maybe you constantly lose health and must balance killing enemies with retreating to a med station to stay alive.

I imagine there's two reasons:
1. Spending days on end in muddy trenches isn't a very marketable gaming experience.
2. WWI doesn't have any moments that make America look particularly heroic.

Not sure. While the Western Front was mostly trenches, the Eastern Front was a more open battlefield.
the problem was that you couldn't be American on the Eastern front, you could only be German or Russian, any other countries in there were totally irrelevant and cannon fodder.

no-one really known about WW1. well, they know about the war but people know more about WW2 than they do about WW1. something people tend to not know: WW2 was against the Nazis, what was WW1 against?
The 2nd Reich, which wasn't any more evil than anybody else of that time period. There really wasn't a bad guy in that war. Well there were plenty of bad guys but no evil faction persay.

we all know there are many (many) games set in world war 2, and yet there aren't any set in world war 1, and i wonder why this is!
Because there were no heroes in WWI, everybody died horrifically?

Eternal Darkness had a level in a WWI hospital. But a WWI game in the same style as the myriad WWII games wouldn't work. An RPG in the trench quarters that didn't revolve around killing Germans would be cool.
Sergeant York was a good one

Because sitting on your hands for moths on end before slowing walking towards the enemy machine guns would not be much fun. Well unless you played as the Germans DakaDakaakaDakak.
