Because being a girl anything that involves a d20 or a controller instantly means you're a nerd. Also i just love games, comics, movies etc, i can't help it.

It wasn't really my intention. It's just how I became.
I didn't decide that I should suddenly enjoy video games, sci-fi, anime, manga, 40k, Warcraft, Harry Potter and the likes. It just happened.

My interests, and passion of those interests, kind of isolated me as a nerd. Video games, science fiction, comic books, etc. I guess I'm that snarky, self-aware stereotype that you often see as a side character in romantic comedies centered around people between 17-30.

But to reduce any one person's personality to a single word is really doing them a disservice. I may be into nerdy stuff, but I'm more than just a paper thin persona of a smartass who loves Star Wars. I'm also into classic rock, stand-up comedy, and cooking.

By default. I was (and still am though it expresses itself differently these days) incredibly hyper. As a result (in my particular case), I have a very short attention span unless something fascinates me, at which point I dive into the subject for an arbitrary length of time. This explains my vast reserves of knowledge regarding a whole host of subjects, from mathematics to history. Video games were never my first choice of entertainment as a child but, unfortunately, there wasn't always something exciting to do elsewhere. Eventually, as the list of things I could get away with doing in public shrank, I played video games more. Now, my list of hobbies has been whittled away to reading books, playing games and fencing.

While growing up, my parents used educational computer games to help me learn stuff, and as a kid playing those games was really fun, so naturally I started playing video games as a hobby. Also I'm not very good at playing sports.

It just happened?

I'm not very big into sports and I just found games to be more interesting. Pokemon and anime had something to do with it growing up, maybe that's how it happened, but damned if I know.

1. For a very social person I lack patience with humans

2. I like new stories and new worlds

3. I don't give a shit about what people think

4. At a young age I found that murdering a npc came with less paperwork than murdering a neighbor.

Since as long as I remember, I would always play or watch my brothers play video games, and I realy enjoyed doing so. Around the age of 7, I started trying all kinds of sports, and kept on doing so until I was 9, but never got the same enjoyment that I did with games unless I was just playing with a game of football with my friends. But after I moved in with my mom, who at the time lived in the middle of nowhere to and started at a new school, I just couldn't make any friends to play football or baseball that wasnt one of those people that would critise you for every little thing you did wrong, and I was unable to have any fun. So, I stayed at home all day everyday, just doing random things for time killing. Then one day my mom bought me a X-Box original with 50 or so games for 100 dollars for my birthday one year because I used to love playing Halo. So I started playing 1 or 2 games every now and the, but that soon became 5 games and so on. And then I moved back to my dad's where my older brother was living, and he started to introduce me to everything from Dungeons and Dragons(though it never stuck to me) to Anime to, well, all things Nerd. And I loved it all and became a nerd myself.

...and thats how I stopped Santa from releasing his evil penguin army.

Because I enjoy and always have enjoyed "nerdy" things. I've always been huge on Sci-fi and Fantasy, I've been playing games since I was an itty bitty kiddie (2 years old), I love anime and manga...

Mentally I'm a nerd because I like activities that force me to be strategic. Watching TV, or playing a game of Euchre are among the most boring things I can do because there is no thought. Hobbies like D&D and Magic continually evolve and embrace creative ideas.

Physically I'm a nerd because of my terrible knees. With all my past surgeries I effectively can't do anything faster than a casual walk on a stable surface. This eliminates nearly every outdoor activity from my repertoire. Also I'm not good looking, I'm very analytical, I wear glasses, I'm always single and I constantly use lines from shows like Simpsons, Futurama, Seinfeld when possible in day to day conversation.

It started off that I was pushed into playing lot's of sports but I was never very good at them because I'm just a passive person by nature. As I made friends I took a big interest in the games they were playing as my parents wouldn't even consider buying a computer or console at the time, instead I was told to go play outside and find something to do. My parents eventually introduced to me to Star Wars, I soon took an interest in that and they bought me the Star Wars encyclopedia. I was instantly hooked and later found I really enjoyed Sci-fi things in general which led to watching Star Trek reruns on space channel, playing warhammer 40k with friends, and over the past year also now hooked on Dr. Who. When my parents bought a computer, I absorbed any book on windows and later graphics programs like flash like a sponge. I love sitting in front of my computer now playing RTS games and working in programs like Maya and more recently 3DS Max where I am absolutely fascinated by 3D animation.

By definition I would be more of a geek then a nerd as I never got really good grades in school, but had a very strong interest other worlds and the stories that went with them. I'm still a decently well rounded person though, I enjoy watching football and hockey especially with my dad or with my friends, and though I am sorta socially awkward I have good friends I hang out with all the time. I also do enjoy beer lol.

Well, I have always had a great interest in science, our world, our origins and distant stars and planets. I think about these things a lot, and read alot of books on the subject, Carl Sagan, Hawking and the like. I am also very interested in history, and spend a lot of time finding out about various periods.

Of course, I love video games, but my favourites tie in with my other intrests, for example, my favourite games of all time are CIV IV : Beyond the Sword, Rome and Medieval Total War II and the like. Oh, and I love Star Trek TNG and DS9.

I guess I am pretty stereotypical in the sense that I prefer to be around computers and books, learning about things, than having any meaningful interaction with other people, I have no girlfriend, becuase I have made no effort to get one. I am to interested in spending my time learning about things which facinate me, and a relationship would take time from that.

Luckily for me though, I have a few good friends, who share the exact same interests as me.

Pretty much everyone is a nerd really, it's just someone who is skilled in one or more fields.

Also by the way geek and nerd are synonyms and mean practically the same thing.

I am a Halo Nerd and proud. The reason why I choose gaming over sports because it is more interesting than kicking a ball around for an hour and a half.

My parents bought me Freddie the Fish and Pajama Sam games as a kid.

That's what got me started on nerding.
