I've never been athletic. I'd rather be intellectual than be ignorant. I don't possess and uncontrollable desire to drink or have sex. I enjoy video games. I wear glasses. I have a tendency to over-analyze things. I'm majoring in Computer Science. I'd say that defines me as a nerd. What I don't understand is why being called a nerd is supposed to insult me. I like myself.

Couldn't telly you really. I'm not really a "Nerd", in the standard sense, or at least nobody's ever had the balls and/or bad manners to call me a nerd to my face.

I pursue gaming for the same reason I pursue films, music and literature, I eat, breathe and sleep art, it's one of the fundamentals of who I am.

I spend a great deal of my time on it because I love it, but also because the physical hobbies I enjoy, such as sword fighting, hand to hand sparring, require two people, and I have no willing opponents. That's not to say I don't practice on my own.

I have almost every possible biological disadvantage that prevents me playing sports and don't like them anyway. And I like sci-fi and don't like reality.

I'm interested by sci-fi, reading, and high fantasy because I love how interesting and creative their universes are.

By the way I think sports are boring.

I could just say I'm a hipster and being into sports is so mainstream. I don't know why I'm a nerd, but I would say being the nerd let's me express myself while being comfortable. Although I am classified as a nerd under the nerd stereotypes. I play games, excel at academics, terrible at sports, in the band, obsessed with technology, and I have been known to speak fluent Nerd.
Also I'm an Otaku, that's a super nerd where I am. So huzzah! For being different.

Huh. I guess, now that I'm thinking about it, "nerdy" hobbies always provided me with the mental stimulation that other stuff couldn't. I've always loved literature, and gaming (especially anything story or character-driven), as well as drawing/art. I remember when I was a little girl, I used to read nearly all the time, and if I wasn't doing that, then I was playing the original Marios or Sonics on my parents' old SNES and Megadrive, or Pokemon Red on that brick of a Gameboy. I sketched and painted a lot of random crap, too.

Nothing much has changed, but my interests branched out into history and psychology -- and don't forget utter over-analysis! -- as I grew older, so there are more "mental"-type interests. Sports, or anything "mind fluff" (not that sports is) has never really interested me. I'm not an outdoorsy or athletic person anyway, and I don't like just plonking my ass down and staring blankly at a TV screen for three hours. I just find it boring, because there's nothing to really think about. Which I mean in the least elitist way possible, by the way, if that was misconstrued as arrogant or anything.

So...I guess that's why I'm a nerd? I like nerdy hobbies because they're more fun and clevererer? B-)

I was a gamer before it was cool to game.
I was a nerd before it was cool to nerd it up.
I was a geek before it was sexy to geek out.

As I post this, I am wearing a Metroid hat, a Firefly shirt, and a Dragon Age Pendant.

I'm a "nerd," as you say, because I developed and grew that way, because I am so deep in the "Nerd Culture," I can't back out now. I am here to stay.

Why am I a nerd? Hmm, now there's a question. I suppose I'm a nerd for a lot of reasons, one of the main ones being so I don't end up being a fucking waffle waitress (if anyone knows who I just ripped off, then a winrar is u).

In all seriousness, I'm a nerd because nerds are smarter, nicer, and more useful than the "cool" people. They also end up essentially owning the asses of the cool people. All that, and because I just identify with them, I enjoy the culture, etc etc.

because of my asthma. some people use that as an excuse their whole lives, but before my minor attack when i was 10 which got me diagnosed i was on my school football team, basketball team and i ran cross-country. i was crap at football, but that was more because of me not liking pain/mud. i was a beast at basketball, still can be if probability gives me a break: i shocked an entire class by scoring a 3-pointer over all their heads after doing fuck-all. then i went nerdy when i ended up getting a place on a smart-ass quiz thing. actually, the entire quiz team were all on the football and basketball teams.
then i started studying science because i suck at physical activities.

I'm no full-on nerd, but I certainly have nerdish qualities.
I like games, movies, and don't mind spending sizeable amounts of time indoors.
