Why can't we use a keyboard/mouse on consoles?

There needs to be lest hostility between the races. I mean the clans who own various consoles, or prefer PCs. I still hold, however, that computers are the best option, as they are the catch-all-- you can surf the web, game, and do your homework on one machine, rather than buying separate machines.

I think the one thing that really bothers me more than anything is the PS3 owners that think they are technowizards for owning one. If owning a PS3 makes you a technowizard, owning a cutting board makes me emeril lagasse

You can use a M/K-setup for, at least, the Ps3. It is just that most companies are too lazy to implement it...

Yeah, that is pretty annoying.

Besides, the Ps3 is worth fuck-all as a multimedia device...

Wouldn't this make FPS games strongly unbalanced? A mouse is a much more precise tool for aiming than a controller and because the majority of players would be using the controller they got with the console, the mouse users would find themselves simply slaughtering everyone.

By the way, whats up with all the console hate on these forums? As a person who uses a good gaming PC, PS3 and an Xbox360 I don't see what the problem is.

because those controls are too complicated for the console tards
Ahhh and so the PC trolls have already entered.
It works both ways. Some PC tards can't hack the console controllers either.
"waah waaah waah, I don't want to play Halo. I can't aim without my mouse, waaah waaah"
Well assuming PC gamers USE A KEYBOARD AND MOUSE I doubt any of them would want to use a console controller. Besides I thinkt he the real reason why k/m can't be used on consoles is because your PC instantly downloads a driver in order to recognize the controller you use, but consoles obviously can't do that, and if they are not BUILT to recognize k/m UBS ports then they can't utilize them. They are basically embedded processors when you think about it.

Oh, wait, I'm one of the like 10 people on this site that actually bought a Dreamcast.
Yeah but did you have a 3DO ? Or an Atari Jaguar OR Lynx ?

I think this all really adds up for convenience for both consoles and PC's. if you were able to use a console as a computer than who would buy computers they would end up disappearing for the latest consoles. Sure it you be easier without all of the driver issue, but i find satisfaction when my scrap made computer gets a game working at the rate of a new one

I do! The jaguar recently stopped working. I turned it on after years of sitting there and looking Jaguarish. It failed me. Failed me hard.

As far as Keyboard and mouse go. I use the controller often enough on my computer. Sometimes it is nice not to have to try and grope around across the keyboard to try and hit the right key. With the controller they are all at my fingertips. The keyboard is after all designed to be used with two hands.

Still it works better for some games. Not nearly as much as people like to give it credit for. After all there is one thing it will never have: Analog buttons.

No the real reason keyboards/mouse aren't used with consoles is because your console is sitting on a floor in the living room and the players are sitting on the floor or on a couch. There's no desk, no surface on which to put a mouse, no way to hold your keyboard without it slipping. Basically it would be dumb.
I disagree, I have a couch and a desk within view of my television, I could use both with ease. Depending on the game, I could chill on the couch and play, or I could use my desk, or any other flat surface really to use a wireless mouse/keyboard.

I'd definately use a controller still though for some games.

i still have a dreamcast, it's still in my closet. But anyways uhm #1 it's because they would lose alot of money on controllers and #2 mouses are alot easier to use than sticks imo, so users of a mouse/board would have an advantage.

and yes, i've played pc games using my controller before.

As for shooters, personally i think pulling a trigger makes me feel better than clicking a button.

Probably because consoles like the NES didn't need a mouse a keyboard, since all the games developed for it were pretty simple to control. After that it probably just seemed easy to evolve form what everyone knew, and so they kept using joypads and controllers.

I see no reason why they cannot. Use the analog stick programming for the mouse and Right click for X, ect.

For keyboard, they could make some kind of touchpad thing. I could probably design something like that.

The same thing can be said about any gamer (espescially PC gamers).

My question is always why anyone bothers using a console in the first place. Its just a retarded computer.

Of course, "build a system so simple that even a fool can use, and only a fool will use it."
that is a ignorant view, the reason for console's is that they are a fixed format which makes creating games for them a lot easier on the developer as they don't have to worry about issue's with hardware. Also consoles are for people who don't wish to go out and spend large amounts of money on hardware which will be superseded in 3 months
