I don't remember why I joined.
I know I visited the site because of ZP, but my very first post seems to be a short comment about the horrors of the Meat Circus from Psychonauts.

I came to the site for Zero Punctuation, eventually wanted to comment so registered then naturally explored elsewhere in the forums and found it was one of the few places I enjoyed discussing things as people are generally good and made a few friends so ended up staying.

Trying to remember when I joined....

*checks join date* 2009.... 5 years ago :-O

I think profile: username sucks recommended the site to me about a year ago because of how well the community behaved and the games you could play here and I was already coming over to watch Yahtzee and Top 5 a week earlier than the YT channel, so I figured what the hell.

I think I only stayed in Forum Games for a bit, then username recommended Role Playing as a subforum to check out, but it wasn't my thing and I still check up on both without necessarily participating often.

Progressively went to Gaming Discussion and Off Topic and when a certain She who shall not be named made a certain video this summer, I kind of changed what subforums I frequented and what I was hooked on talking about, but I'm not quite sure when I stepped into Religion and Politics, I'll check later, was under the assumption it was the least moderated and most rude subforum on the site, but apparently it was improved when I got there and then went back to a...less than stellar place, given how I think other R&P regular probably feel about it now and have about it in the past.

Retroactively got into Moviebob and Jim and am still trying to get a full grasp on how gaming sites were/are for the last 5+ years, since I was kind of the guy only vaguely aware of certain things like the ME3 ending, SWATting, or the various things sites like this talk about, along with the communities of other sites since I was only ever online for watching YouTube video before this.

GG was like two ME3 endings combined XD
Two? More like ten.

At least the ME3 thing was mildly entertaining, since we had Zeel trolling the forums around that time.
But all this GG stuff is just depressing.
I like to think of GG as the darker-edgier reboot of the ME3 fiasco

as for my reasons, I honestly don't recall, I know I didn't actually comment until several years after making the account (due to GG, which I started out supporting but have simmered into neutral/not really giving a crap)

A friend used the site, I was pretty disinterested to start, but for reasons I'm not sure of, one evening I decided I wanted to be a part of these forums. I didn't lurk beforehand as most do, and have never been dedicated to any of the sites content. I just goof off in the forums. I've got little reason to come here in particular, I guess it's just habit and that I'm sort of used to some of the people at this point.

The forums seemed friendly and I wanted a place where I could geek out. I've been on the forums since about 2009 and I feel like I've made more friends than enemies which is pretty great! I haven't lasted this long on any other forum but I'm not really active on any other forums...not since the early 2000's when I would use Pianosquall's forums...ancient history.

Got here due to Zero Punctuation, stayed for the interesting topics.

Still a part-time lurker though.

*rolls dice* YAHTZEE!!
*ahem*
Oh, right... I mean, I joined because... uh... I wanted to do this one Pacific Rim-inspired poll and the rest came as follows, I guess? I don't know... It was a day in June, saw some articles worth commenting on, realized that this was my first official forum to be apart of, and ended up making a few threads worth keeping bookmarked and shit...

Nowadays, I comment when I can, quote when it seems relevant to me, and keep up with the Forum Games section mainly through the firends that I've met through said forums...

Uh... I got nothing else to say... So...

Don't know really, first forum I came across.

Lately I don't like it any more, I find the people to be generally hyperbolic (I'm British, we don't like passion here!) and quite the opposite of the kind of people I like listening to.

Also I'm not into what I might gracefully describe as 'geek shit', I find the whole 'culture' tiresome - mainly because it's overplayed EVERYWHERE and I don't personally like endless regurgitations and references, but that could be said for the whole of pop culture - and that's all the website seems to offer now.

I found another forum to frequent, but I drop by occasionally to make a non-sequitur here and there so that one or two people might remember to have fun and not be constantly hamstrung by their incredible intelligence.

And much as I still follow Yahtzee (though I think he's vastly improved by the partner he does the Drown Outs/Let's Plays with); I really think Zero Punctuation is played out, I'd like him to try other things; and not just another examination of why Silent Hill 2 is good.

I joined to offer my support and do my part in one of the great "ask a trans person a question" threads. The overgrown brats that liked insulting weirdos like me were mildly annoying and the people who think their high school biology knowledge is a divine truth regarding sex and gender were severly frustrating. Most memorable were the guys who simply could not grasp the concept of me having breasts without silicone implants. I mean, seriously??How do they think breasts come to be?

On a sidenote, if I am lucky then my boobs will be able to fill an E-cup within the next year. And yes, without implants.

August 2010, mainly to weigh in on the whole Scott Pilgrim vs. Expendables thing. Came for Yahtzee, stayed for Extra Credits, Movie Bob and Jim.....sadly only two of them remain here now :(

I called a spade a spade on another forum at one point and was banned for a week so I signed up. Haven't made a post on the forum since... granted I barely post here also

I joined because this is my favourite geek-centric news site. I didn't really become active on the forums until this year, because...4chan.

There was a time when 4chan seemed interesting to me. A time eight years ago when I was 22 and I thought all the edgy lulz and trolling was just hilarious. Then, over the years, I went there more and more for porn and less and less for any sort of discussion, and then the realization dawned on me: The people who do 90% of posting on the entire site are either morons or trolls. I thought to myself, am I a moron, or a troll? I quickly deduced moron, smartened up, and started frequenting these forums instead.

I don't remember? But guess I joined the site for the various videos, and stayed to hang out in the forums and share my opinions. And to try some role playing.

Anyway, welcome to the Escapist, and remember: don't be a jerk, and you won't have many problems.

I kinda joined a long time ago but for some reason my internet have been formatted and I forgot my password. So I have to do a new account. By the way, I join because The Escapist forum seems to be the most active and interesting one when compare to other forums in my book and I'm not interested on the internet for the sole purpose of JUST forum.

The Escapist forum keeps glowing in front of the page and attracted me to it, with all those main titles. People kept going to discuss and stuff, usually things that I am interested and needed to comment just to fill up my satisfaction.

Well if we're being honest technically I'm ban jumping but my original account was banned years ago and under different staffing and ownership so I figure it doesn't count.

I joined mostly because I was bored, didn't use Reddit at the time, was at work so couldn't use 4chan and fancied something to do. Originally I joined because of Zero Punctuation.

The impression I had from the forum was that it was civil, brought up interesting points and discussed the video/news material the site publishes that I was already a fan of (I even liked Moviebob at one point).
Moviebob used to be excellent, his early Game Overthinkers are legitimately very good videos with plenty of considered nuance. They're one of the few series of videos I've ever watched which actually put forward a point, argue it and leave room for disagreement. With that in mind the current tone of his opinion videos is baffling, what changed?

I just joined because other people i knew online were also members of here. think it was safe to say that no comics, articles or videos had any involvement in me joining. though in the past i would've cared for Critical Miss, but they've gone....weird since Erin started seeing hallucinations, otherwise it's just unusual subplot arc after another, or the general gaming journalism it seems to poke at.

when CM went all Fight Club/Donnie Darko with Erin having a boyfriend (who turned out to be hallucinated Link?), with some sort of pseudo-suicide social...thing, didn't really fit into the plot. even if they tried too hard to shoehorn the whole escapism=bad thing
and this all came about because people thought it was just going to be an E3/Zelda celebration...that wasn't the case then just drawn out. said spoiler didn't even resolve the hallucinations since they still appear and she almost attacked another person with a Knife.

Probably safe to say i didn't care about Extra Credits or Jimquisition, even when they used to be on the site.

Hey escapists, new person for forums in general here and thought this was a good first topic. So pretty much what the title says why did you join? I signed on because I've been lurking round these forums for a while and thought it was pretty cool. Also if you got any tips for these forums they'd be appreciated.
Like most of the others here: Came here for Zero Punctuation, stayed for the remaining content, joined to throw my two cents in on what others were talking about.

Hopefully, you have a fun time here, Mr.Mage! Just...don't press the red buttons. Trust me on this one...
