Why didn't I play this sooner?

I'm not a FPS fan, I can stand a few of them like Halo (simple gameplay so it's good for someone like me who doesn't play them that much) and the very first Medal of Honor from the PS1. I didn't even like Half Life or Portal and believe me I've tried to like them but for some reason I just can't get into them.

Still, I try them and find fun ones every now and then, but they aren't my type of game for the most part. I really don't know why I picked this game up Friday night since it's an FPS, but my god am I glad I did.

Jesus Christ, Borderlands is freaking amazing. I know the GoTY edition is coming out next week, but I found it really cheap ($10) and decided to give it a shot (no pun intended). I had seen the IGN video with Randy Pitchford and thought it was hilarious, but there was no way I thought the game would be anything other than a COD, MoH or Halo ripoff. I was so wrong.

There's just something about the grinding (actually fun as compared to usual RPG grinding) and the looting that makes for an amazing experience. The graphics making it look more like a cartoon than the usual brown shooters and the open world all combine to make it one of my favorite games of this generation. I'll probably download the DLC (well teo of them and get the first two on the disc they released) and still be cheaper than the GoTY edition.

I just wish I would've played it sooner but better late than never I guess.

So what games have you put off playing and then felt stupid for not playing a lot sooner?

I loved Borderlands, for DLC I suggest General Knox's Secret Armory (the others are good too of course)

OT: Portal; I knew about for the longest time, heard all the jokes, and heard everyone saying good things about it but just never bothered buying it until a few weeks ago and its a really good game.

Half life 2 is soon to be added to my list of played games as well

I can't say I've ever really had an experience like that, once or twice I've returned to play a game I thought was medeocre and just been like ...Holy shit! This is the best thing ever

example: can't think of one :(

Yeah, General Knox's Secret Armory is on the DLC disc they put out and it has another one on it, too. The Walmart near me has it for $15 so i'm fixing to go get it. It's funny though that I'm paying more for 2 DLC packs than I did for the game lol.

I've introduced many people to the amazingness that is Timesplitters.

So yeah, I recommend everyone to play the Timesplitters games. The first one is on the PS2, the second and third(future perfect) are on all last-gen systems. Not the PC though.

As for me, it would be The Witcher. Sure the combat is meh and the voice acting is hilariously bad. But its one of the finest RPG's I've played in a long time.

Uuuurrgh Borderlands *shudder*. Bad from start to finish in my opinion, however, i did put off playing Crysis for a long time. Lord knows why, but i loved it from the very start. :D

Half-Life 2. Didn't play it until last year, and I was absolutely blown away. Surprise surprise.

Prototype is the most recent one for me. Picked it up used from GAME for a tenner and didn't expect much.

Ended up losing most of a month to just swooping around a massive city being a dick to people. I extracted a lot of fun out of that tenner, I can tell you.

Borderlands can be quite entertaining. I love the art style, and the humor never gets old.

Depending on how much you like the game, perhaps waiting until the GotY edition is released, and buying that would be best. I believe it'll be cheaper, and you'll get all the DLC, and the update along with it. I believe the update is meant to ensure the monsters level with you?

I've recently downloaded the Robolution DLC, but still haven't gotten around to playing it because I'm quite literally in the middle of a move. But I can't wait!

OT - I can't really think of any examples... Though Bioshock will likely be one soon enough. I still haven't played it. >.>

Half Life/episodes and Portal, Metroid, and Mass Effect.

I am now a massive fan of all four.

Bioshock 2. The reviews and general opinion and the fact I wasn't so big on bioshock 1 scared me off, but I grabbed it for £15 and enjoyed it HUGELY.

Portal too. I thought it would be so puzzly and headscrewy I'd never get it, so I never bothered playing it. When I got round to it and found it intuitive I felt like an idiot.

There's a few others but they've seriously slipped my mind at the moment. This always happens, haha.

Oh, Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway - I didn't like the previous games, and expected this to play similarly. It really didn't.

Wolfenstein - I heard it was dull and uninspired. It was actually HILARIOUS and one of the few games brave enough to be up front about things. An hour in it gives you one of the most powerful guns in the game, unlike most FPS games that have you trudging around with your BORING pistol forever.

Company of Heroes. I thought it'd be just 'dawn of war but in WW2' and figured that'd be super boring. I wasn't prepared for how slick and engaging it'd turn out to be.

The thing is, I can get the DLC disc for $15 and download the other 2 for $20 and adding the $10 I paid for the base game, it will just cost $45 for the entire thing and the GOTY edition is going to be $60. The update is also going to be a regular update on XBL from what I understand.

The Witcher, a friend that I worked with was trying to get me to pick it up for the longest time. I finally did when it was on sale on Steam. I really enjoyed that game. The same goes with Bioshock and Dawn of War: Dark Crusade.

I actually assumed it would cost less than $60 for some reason. But in your case, I certainly would go about it that way. It not only saves you money, but you can start kicking some ass even sooner. :D

Do you know when the update is being released? (Oh yes, I'm gonna be that lazy)

What did you think of Other M? I don't get why it's getting all the hate it is. I played it and loved it and I've been a Metroid fan sine 1987, then again, I hated the Prime games so maybe it's that the people that liked it and the people that hate it do so for the same reason, that it went back to (psuedo) 2D/3rd person as opposed to the FPS style of Prime.

Mass Effect 1

Good thing I played it last year, I didn't know I was missing out on such a good experience, and just recently I was able to play the master piece known as Mass Effect 2

Fantastic, by next week I'll be in my new house, and with an internet connection! Looking forward to playing some Borderlands. :)
