Why do Americans write their dates down backwards?

I was just wondering because Americans always say the UK is stupid for spelling things like 'colour' in that way. I actually agree because there is no need for the 'u'. but then I was like wtf hypocrisy! they put the dates in the most stupid order: month, day, year! I honestly don't know how you can even look yourselves in the mirror ;)

Americans do a lot of shit backwards for no apparent reason.

Seriously, why are we the only country that drives on the right side of the road, write dates month, day, year and don't use the metric system?

At least our teeth don't act as spare flashlights at night X.X.
In all seriousness it's just a matter of culture.

The month is more valuable then the day. The day can be at 12 different points, while the month is a specific range, thus more precise.

Being an American, which makes me an expert on the subject, the reason I can give is that it is just another way that we are different from our cousins across the pond. It's just how we do things, which is also the reason why we don't use the metric system and why we drive on a different side of the road than our former colonizers.

Bicus Weer AMERICANS!

Fuck you world! We'll drive on the RIGHT side of the road. Measure things in INCHES FEET and YARDS. Because the lawn in front of your house is an accurate measurement! As well as your FEET!

We'll harass the rest of the world with ounces! Gallons! Pints! Which most Americans don't know how to measure! Whatever the fuck a quart is! I thought that was a subatomic particle? Oh wait... thats a quark.

MILES BITCHES. 5280 feet!

[HEADING=1]WHY?[/HEADING]

Because we can.

You're not the only ones who drive on the right :p
I miss miles per hour over here. . . I personally still think in miles. And yes i work in ounces pounds (whys it written lbs? x.x) and im 6'3''... ... But the dates thing is pure unforgivable xD

That sterotype is funny cos Britian has some of the best teethcare in the world. (Plus, all that whitening is more likely to act as a flashlight. ;P)

Cos, America is strange? IDK, they just do it to seem different I guess, that seems like the reason for a lot of things in America.

What are you talking about? You're the ones writing it backwards. Drive on the proper side of the road while you're at it and abandon the metric system!

They probably do it so they can be special. I believe that France and alot of Europe drives on the right side of the road as well.

Honestly because it is difficult to break a tradition once it is started.
A more interesting thing to look at would be why America still uses the weird English measurement system instead of switching to Metric like the rest of the world. But the answer would probably be the same.

It fits phonetically, we speak the date "april 5, 2010" so we write it "04/05/10"

Personally it makes more sense to me to write it the other way, that way you have the smallest unit of time first and the largest last.

Isn't driving on the left a throwback from the bygone days of horse and carts, so that your sword arm was always at the ready?
