Why Do I like J-Pop?

I watch a lot of anime, and as such I am exposed to a lot of different J-pop songs that typically play as the opening and closing themes of an episode. I like a lot of these songs too, even though I can't understand what they are saying, and I'm wondering if that's a factor. I probably also like these songs because some intros are interesting to watch, but maybe for the reason I like this video. No, not little boys dancing! Anime boys dancing.....which actually sounds creepier now.

Are there any songs you like where you don't understand the lyrics?

You find them catchy? They make you feel happy?

Hopefully, both are true. :)

EDIT: Just realized I didn't answer the second part...

I don't like many songs where I can't understand the lyrics, but I do make an exception for this one:

Pop is all about being easy to listen to (doesn't have to be an acquired taste) and as catchy as possible. The fact you can't understand the lyrics probably helps because they are generally mind-numbingly stupid.

Also Asian pop doesn't seem to have caught onto the trend of soaking the song in autotune and adding in retarded out of place rap portions that are all the rage these days in North America.

Would be impossible to tell either way, anyways, but I thought of the fact that things sound better if you can't understand them. Always amazes me when I read the lyrics.

I rarely ever care for any kinds of pop. Especially when I don't understand the lyrics. I'll listen the shit out of jazz, r&b, rock, alternative and rap in other languages though. I don't know it's just the music itself. Truthfully I don't even like voices in music. I just tone them out and listen to the instruments.

I completely agree here. The reason I can't stand pop music is that, despite the insanely catchy beat, I find the lyrics to be an asinine waste of my time. However, since I can't understand the lyrics in J-pop (which could very well be as stupid as they would be in English), I can simply enjoy the song for its beat and melody.

Damn you! I just finished my usual period of hate for K-Pop! (I'm from Korea by the way, don't like it that much but some are really catchy)

Lots. Tons. Many.

I often prefer songs in languages other than English because I find that the words no longer get in the way of the emotions. Rather, the words become part of the beat, the rhythm, instead of something to draw attention from them. This is the number one reason why I love both melodic metal and J-pop (it's an odd combo, I know).

I feel like saying, though, that I'm very wary of non-English songs. I don't tell a lot of people which songs I like out of fear that the lyrics are about fucking horses or the downfall of the west or something like that.

Because you're a horrible, horrible person, that is why.

I don't really like J-pop, too much auto-tuner and boring dime a dozen produced music stars.

I never tell anyone that I like J-pop after a song I liked turned out to be about a girl who loves animals....a lot. Don't ask me the title of it, I don't remember and I don't want to.

You're welcome there...

OT: Lots of songs, but for the most part they're actually in English, my native language.

Well its because a song without the music aspect is just a crappy poem, lyrics should have a minimal effect on rather or not you enjoy a song. Lyrics only complements a song's emotion. I like bands that are from Germany, France, Iceland, Russia, Japan, Mexico, and I think Hungary plus instrumental. There are certain combinations of notes and choirs that sound depressing and happy. I only know a little bit of music theory but its a very easy concept to understand.

first question? poor taste is my guess (jk, ofcourse)

second question? son, I don't think I've ever really understood music lyrics, so my answer is yes. Seriously, listen to this song and tell me you understood what the hell he says.
