This kind of thing happens at all schools. Jocks get away for it because they are the school stars. I know what they did was not acceptable but choking them with a rope was not the thing to do. When I was in school I when to a new school and I was bullied (not as bad as you so this might not of worked) so I found some friends and stayed with them and tried to avoided the bullies. Also I was (and still am :p) smart so I had advanced classes so I was with upperclassmen which were much nicer than the students my age. Eventually the bullies were no longer bullies and then only the occasional poke fun of was left but everyone is the butt of a joke every once and awhile. Did you really shut down a school sweet!?

Publichools, yes. This is a private school.
My public school had a climb up rope and other rope activities as late as the 2004-5 school year.

Sort of

My story got out (heh heh heh) and a lot of kids left the school
they didn't have enough money left to keep both open
so they closed the K-8 school and put all grades (K-12) into the 9-12 school

as you can imagine

it was packed and they had no playground left

I can somewhat relate, at least to the part of being picked on.

I have red hair, Aka I'm a 'ginger.' So every Thursday (Also known as kick a ginger day) some prick jocks try to kick me and the teachers do nothing. They always say that they're just playing around. Though I did get them back today by wearing my shin pads to school under my jeans. I put metal on them, so when I went into civics class and they tried to kick me they nearly broke their toes. It was a good day.

Same double standards last 40 years my friend.
Raise the jocks up, keep the smart kids down.

Then again my high school year book had everything but football go to state, including chess and volleyball.

Yet they still gave them a one page color spread of their amazing defeats of 0-62, 6-56 ect.

Wow. That just sickening. Sure you attacked the kid, but I don't see how its any worse than him pushing those pads out from underneath you. I'm guessing either everyone there is a douchebag or the teachers and principals care too much about their precious athletics team to punish their "star" players. Since giving those kids their own lesson is frowned upon in American society (fucking eye for an eye I was I say) I'd say sue the fuck out of the school and the kids' families who were assualting you. Sure I hate when people make huge lawsuits about trivial things, but something like this doesn't sit well with me untouched. I demand justice (or at least balance) be served.

Thankfully shit like this never happened in my school. Either because the "jocks" were nice enough (most of them weren't really that bad, just caught up in their own life) or because my school's staff was pretty strict.

Either way. Point is, public schools don't have waivers or good ol' boys clubs. They're too afraid of lawsuits to let any kid get away with the sort of thing that was pulled on you.

Theories:

Strangling has more potential to be lethal than being punched (Unless the punches are done in rapid succession with extreme force)

There is a severe distinction in the morales of different social groups.

"If the majority of people are doing it, it can't be bad."

For what other reason would Germans have reacted calmly to the incredibly horrific treatment of Jews?

You don't seem like an especially social person, quiet kid in your class? People like you and I always have a stigma that crucifies every "weird" action we make.

Somehow I think you would have killed that Quarterback, I'm glad you didn't.

I just keep jackasses like that away from me by being an overly sarcastic sociopath.

my school was like that. 2 buildings beside each other one was 5 stories the other was 4 and there was a college right across from it. like literally right across. nothing between them but a small fence with a guard. We had pretty much kindergarten, preschool, elementary, and h.s.

Well I assume that you live in America because if that was England, the right wing press would have demolished those bullies...
The tabloids DO have their uses...
I used to get bullied in primary, but when you get to secondary education and everyone gets a bit more mature, only the really weird kids get bullied. And even then, if anyone dared beat up those aforementioned weird kids they themselves would most likely be beaten up.
At least, that's the case with my school.

Because something in the social wiring of most human beings, including teachers, subconsciously tells us that popular, pretty people are good and must be doing things right, and unpopular people must be weird, anti-social and doing things to deserve it.

I had teachers blame me for getting bullied for not being straight. Apparently I was supposed to try harder to not be gay, as opposed to, you know, teachers implementing a policy that homophobia was wrong and shouldn't be tolerated. Nope; all my fault. =P

I'm fairly antisocial when it comes down to it, at least in person. I think I've survived this long by getting some loud music, putting on some headphones, and staying out of the way. There are times, though, when I've had to throw down. It's never been as bad as what you're saying, though. No offense here, but garroting someone... that's usually seen as "dangerous to the garrotee", or at least "socially unacceptable". No experience with that. My answer to why Jocks get away with it? There's not a good one. My dad told me once, "Just wait until they're working for you.", after I asked the same thing. Figure that's about the best response I have.

I am going to say this right now, do not touch him! You are throwing away any evidence you have on your side by doing anything back to him. Here is what you need to do.

1. He is likely doing this because you are better at something than him; I know this because I was a football player. I did not do anything to other kids, and I stopped several players from beating others up. Exploit this and get him angry, get him to attack you, do this to Defensive players, mainly linebackers or linemen. Find some way to record this, and do not retaliate, trying to leave out the provocation part. Make sure this is on school grounds during school if possible, or a sporting event
2. Present the evidence to the school, tell them to kick him off the team, and if they refuse, threaten to sue.
3. This is really important, keep a friend who has a cell phone near you at all times and a recording device on you
4. They will come up to you and confront you about him getting kicked off the team; they will beat you up, record this, and get your friend to call the police. You will get seriously injured for this, but if you want to get revenge and hurt the system, do this
5. Don?t go to the administration; threaten to give the tapes to a local news network if they are all not suspended/expelled or at least banned from playing sports. If they do anything but that or do something like kick you out of the school, send the tapes, congratulations, you just brought down the system.

Never has something as horrible as that happened at any of my schools, my advice would have been leave that school as soon as possible. And the 'adults' handling of the situation is just completely fucked up...I really hope the rest of your days in school shape up.

I am glad that even though Im considered a 'nerd' Im 6'3 and train in muay thai kickboxing, so none of their bullying goes past words.

Okay yeah this is a life story but it has a point

I've been beaten up my whole life (weather it be because I'm weird, because I'm poor, or because I'm 18 and have never had a girlfriend)

but in 7th grade (weird/poor) things went too far

the Football team would always hold me down and take turns hitting me
or pelting me with tennis and baseballs

scares bruises and black eyes everywhere

the teachers said "they're just boys being boys"

then one day at the gym, we were doing the rope climb
you climb this really tall rope, ring the bell, then fall onto this really soft cooshy pad so you don't have to climb all the way back down (the pad itself was like 4-5 feet tall, and felt like a tempurpedic bed)

well I rang the bell and slid down the rope a little (because I didn't trust them for a reason) then about half way down the rope I let go and fell for the pad

the quarterback then proceeded to pull the pad out from under me and I hit the hard-wood floor with a loud thud

everyone laughed

I then lost my temper and garroted the quarterback with the rope (wrapped it around his neck and pulled tight) yelling that he would never do that again

then things became very serious; the teacher yelled at the class to "get him off of him" and well yeah you can see where things went

in the end, I got expelled for hurting the quarterback
and when I showed the bruises, crutches, and scars and told them how I got them they said "it's one thing to harm the student body, it's another thing to make up stories to justify it"

...the principal then tried to convince me to take up something to relieve my anger such as football, or baseball, or soccer...

goes to show what a jock he was as well

off note: I ended up taking archery in boyscouts and was the only one that could bullseye every time on the 20 yard target... I was told that I shouldn't take an anger outlet that would let me kill people from 60 feet away with a sharp stick

EDIT: Crap I forgot the question; why is it that the jocks can get away with ANYTHING but the second I defend myself after being badly injured (with 33 witnesses mind you) I get in major trouble?

EDIT 2: sorry actually I wasn't "expelled" I was just "suspended" for a quarter of the year

when I got back the jocks started beating me with bricks (apparently a drunk driver hit the wall next to the church or something)

and I just ran into the office as fast as I could and the second the principal heard my voice and the phrase "law suit"

well...
we had a talk

then I was suspended for my own safety

because he didn't want me to be in an environment where I could get hurt
(you know, because punishing the victim is TOTALLY what you're supposed to do... not punish the [4] offenders!)

EDIT 3: I'm not like this anymore and this has been taken care of (got half the kids there to stop attending and shut down one of the two schools they had... which were right across the street from each other haha)

Just throwing that out there

I'm not really a violent person (yes I am I just keep it in- and blame society)
so no one think I'm a freak or anything lol

just was wondering if anyone else has things like this happen and if this is running rampent
First off, /respect for the courage you showed in posting. I wish you had people IRL you could have told this to and relied on to help you.

To your question, yes. This has been happening for ever. You're not alone, and your feelings are exactly right for what happened to you, so don't blame yourself or be afraid of those feelings. That was serious bullsh8 - just like when I was growing up and being hunted through the halls of my school by gangs, while the school officials pretended nothing was happening so they could feel like their jobs were safe.

As to why it happens, scumbags always gang together and push each other to be bigger scumbags, and they can't do that without victims. So while the law can't really hurt them, they rob, beat, and rape for as long as they can get away with it. The amount of pain that is visited upon the young in our "civilized" societies is shockingly huge and almost completely undocumented, and that's something that I see is crucial to our future. If we want a healthy, strong society, we probably shouldn't damage large amounts of people when they're young and then just hope they get over it.

As to why those scumbags infest sports, many kids start getting out of control and are directed by adults to sports so they can "learn to control themselves". Riiight. Grouping a bunch of out-of-control kids together is SO not going to create a feedback loop for the behavior. And the sports program doesn't help at all with the "winner" mentality, as it gives them a shield for their behavior - as long as they win the games or are perceived as winners in public, they can be vile POSs.

But then comes the really disturbing part - those scumbags then grow up enough for the law to matter and start realizing what that can mean, so they then go for jobs that can protect them from their past. Like police officer, armed forces, and politics, as well as private industry jobs that give them positions of authority over others (like school official). It's a way of both addressing the insecurities they feel over their past behavior and retroactively enabling it - "look at me now, I totally got away with it". But they're still scumbags at heart - I can tell you stories of people in positions of real authority I've met who openly admitted their past to me and then openly used their authority to get away with the same behavior, just to prove they could.

I am glad that the situation has improved for you though. I hope you move on to a much better life and do some good things with it. If you want to do something with your anger, jump on top of it and ride it to someplace better in life. Don't let psychobabblers tell you you have to have an "outlet" - that's handing control of yourself over to the feelings you got at the hands of scumbags, and that means THEY are controlling your life, not you. It's your life, your choices.

Because jocks are too stupid to do well in life, and they end up becoming gym teachers or principles

I can't answer your question. I ended up homeschooling for a year because I couldn't handle bullying. Nothing physical, but the verbal abuse and harassment was constant and the staff couldn't/wouldn't do anything about it.

But I do find comfort in knowing that most people who were 'successful' in school aren't going to be successful in the real world. And if they are going to be successful, they'll be that douchebag that nobody likes and has a trophy wife/husband they only keep around so they don't lose half their money in a divorce. They won't be happy.
