Well they give them special treatment because they bring glory to the school. You unfortunately and don't mean this in a bad way were worthless to the school or of less worth. It is sad but it is the way life can be at times. I know you are past this already but the best thing you can do aside from kick the shit out of them if you got a chance although unless you are ready for them to retaliate I wouldn't recommend it is just be happy and become a success. Also I know you were pissed but you were kinda strangling him.

As much as i sympathies, garrotting someone is not defensive. Yes, he pissed you off and to punch or kick him i would of understood, but there is something much more menacing when you attempt to cut someone's airway off (that is, unless he was attempting to kill you).

I have had similar problems when I was 16-17 years old. I told the quarterback I had a tattoo, his friends found out, one asked me for my number, & they harrassed me for months. So I turned the tables on them & did the same thing. After they stole my wallet & a brand new cell phone, I reported them to a cop & said the reason why I held back was because most were on a sports team. Nothing happened to them- at all.
Jocks get away with shit like this because if they make it to the big leagues, they often give the school that made them the sports player they are today a big wad of cash. And that amount is usually higher than the gross revenue that they get from just being a public school.
Then we get into the whole "school honor" thing. Schools are often looked at in a better light if they have a good sports team, rather than having a good number of kids that get into collage.
Bang Bang, You're Dead is a good film on the subject manner. And I'm almost certain that the play is just as good. The script is anyway.

Calm down it was a semi-joke. You can go ahead and make fun of my state for all the horrible stuff it has done. If you want to get serious though the fact that the Texas court system supported the schools decision means that in a legal sense this incident does in fact represent all of Texas. I actually don't understand the American school system. Iv had most of my eduction in Canada, and I never seen or heard anyone get beat up at my school(s). This was a public school. Sure there were douche bags, but nothing with physical violence.
you school sucks bro. im a "jock" i wrestle and play football, but i hang out with the sceneish chill atheist kids and really everyone. skaters scene nerds jocks everyone but we dont have the problem at my school. hell i get picked on sometimes but thats just my boys messin around. just glad ya got out of there in one peace (sorta)

I think the issue is in your school system, it gives space for that kind of behavior. I Finland, you hit a student and he starts bleed or you threat a student, next thing you know you are being questioned by the police, social workers, psychologist, teacher, principal, they will call your parents and you end up in to the shitty wheel of being observed student in school.
But honestly, I don't know. But let me tell you that you were lucky. MY bullying (In Finnish schools) ended up me having my skull cracked, head trauma and heavy bleeding from my head + now the doctors suspect the neurological disfunction I have on my right arm might be connected to this beating I had on 8th grade (which I lost from the start, me vs 3 strong immigrant boys, do the math...) Basically, I might be losing my ability to use my right hand because someone wanted to show me that I should never ask them to be silent during Media class (I literally asked (translated: Would you be quiet? I am trying to watch the movie...))
SO you have had it lucky, but still I feel your pain, I been bullied physically and mentally since I was a child. But you have still been lucky (In a sense). I now sit here taking Tramadol and Noritren to control the pain on my hand while watching it get worse every day.
But what I do now? I go around places now and then and talk to kids about bullying. And I am no "It is not ice to bully others, lets all be friends" Speaker. I tell the Horrible grim truth, I show them the pictures of me lying down as a kid on the mud bleeding from my head. And tell them in how much of trouble the boys were afterwards. One of them will be having hard time getting a job (at least until hes 21), one of them got depressed and had to go to therapy over the guilt hes having over it, one is running around happy because he hadn't need to go to the court since he was under 15 years old. But I haven't ever seen parents so angry, sorry and disgusted of their kids behavior as they were when they came to me and told them they were sorry for what their kids did to me.
I hope this memory burns deep in to their mind and feels them with guilt when their own loved one get bullied. It would serve them right.
But just remember, you are not alone. Million of people have had to go trough their worst nightmares in school. Remember that they feeling of hate and lust for revenge can be forged to become a motivation for success, I know for sure that those boys will never be able to reach the things I have already achieved. That is enough of a revenge for me.

Heres a crazy idea, call the cops. Sue the kids for assault so that if you win they probably won't ever get a job in professional sports due to their tendency to hurt people.

The only people who really even cared that I got the highest marks on nearly all the tests were my friends and some people who were close to being friends, and still only for like 20 seconds. Its an issue of escalation, I pulled a not too dissimilar stunt myself once. Will spare you the details but basically this guy who had been taking the piss for years wound up having to take a trip to hospital.
The head teacher said to me "You have never struck me as a violent boy" yea, I'm not. I was just exceptionally angry and smart enough to make use of my surroundings.
Years later I read "Life of Pi" (awesome book much recommended) and a lot of the Animal Behavioural psychology really struck a bell with me, lots of armchair psychology later and basically a transformation took place. At school I was stereotypical nerdy loner who was too lazy (not lazy as such just couldn't see the point I had no life after all) to actually concentrate on getting good grades.
(My maths results are a great example of that, Standard grade: 4 Int2: A Higher: Did not finish)
Now I'm at uni, in a relationship and occasionally forced to fend off girls when I'm out with friends. In uni I'm basically the unofficial leader in all my groups for group work.
The moral of the story is, humans are animals. Like it or not we are pack based and every pack has to have an Alpha and an Omega, you can't always be the Alpha but you NEVER want to be the Omega (and if you aren't then you can protect them a bit) The response with bullying is to answer back, call them out. They insult you don't look away and mumble something, look em in the eye and insult them back, odds are you are smarter so with a bit of practice you can start adding some real flair to your insults. If it gets physical remember its more posturing than anything, knock down or get knocked down then leave it.
You can escalate it to a point and its "boys will be boys" go past it and problems occur.
The hardest part is just keeping at it but once you are past the hardest stage its all downhill from there, you can apply this approach to almost any walk of life. Confident people succeed, who dares wins and even if he doesn't he will still get points for it. Pick your battles though. You don't need to win them all, just more than the other guy.
