Why do people hate their Ex?

Seeing as how none of my relationships (or their break-ups) were 'conventional' per se, I don't hate any of my exes and like to think that none of them hate me. My last relationship ended because I was behaving like a jerk and I dumped her when I realised it. And the one before that ended because so much shit that happened meant that despite the love, try as we might, we couldn't go on.

I'm madly in love with my ex still. And i know she loves me. why we're not back together, i don't know.

I'm in pretty much the same situation, though I do know why we're not together.

I don't hate mine... I'm pretty good friends with her, actually. I think we were always better suited to be friends rather than a couple anyway.

I've gotten over my first ex, even if she hasn't gotten over me yet.

My soon to be ex is more of a mutual, we understand why thing. It doesn't work out right now for us, but we're not going to hate each other over it. If we do happen to end up in the same area, we'll look each other up.

I try to be friends, but when I find out they were lying about me to their friends and claiming I had acted the complete opposite of how I was really, I have nothing to say to them.

My ex tried to stop me seeing my friends on their birthdays (18ths) and was constantly asking me to see her instead of my friends. In the end, I found out she had been saying I was like that and that I was controlling and all the rest.

I sent her one text after that, "Carry on spreading rumours and I'll throw all the naked pictures of you around the local towns."

She stopped after that and I deleted all the pictures.

Other than that, it's hard to be friends with someone you either still love but can't stay with or things have grown into bad blood. I'd have been friends with my most recent ex if she hadn't been lying.

I don't hate my ex. Not everyone does.

The reason why people do however is because, as far as I can see, it's easier to cope with the situation that way. It's easier to hate something than to understand it. It's a form of dismissal.

I don't hate any of my exes and while some may not be thrilled with me, I don't think any hate me. In fact, I've tried to remain civil with all of my exes save one, and she was certified nuttier than a fruitcake. I dropped contact with her for safety reasons, but she's still head over heels for me...for some reason or another...even though she's engaged now. Crazy people, what can you do? XD

I don't hate my ex. But I did at one point and the only reason I did was because I felt betrayed by him, not because he cheated, because he broke up with me. It's weird. I dunno how to explain it.

I think the main wrongful assumptions here are that:
a) people in a relationship (even quite a lengthy one) are necessarily in love
b) people who fall in love will be in love forever

My ex is a good example of point "a". As an old friend, he's very dear to me, and I don't regret the relationship one bit. But I was never "in love" with him. I dated him because it was convenient and comfortable. (And I tend to rate "trust" over "attractiveness" when it comes to sex.)

Many people hate their ex for a simple and completely logical reason: It often (but not always) takes something quite unpleasant to end a long relationship. Cheating, raging arguments, general lying, etc.

I don't hate all my exes. My most recent ex and I are still good friends and hang out quite a bit.
The ex before that, however, is a *****. We were together for 18 months and it was a real struggle a lot of the time. When we got on, it was fantastic, but when we didn't it was hell. I guess it was one of those 'the good times make up for the bad' kinda deals, but that can only last for so long.

My assumption is that the hater is still in love with the ex, but the ex moved on and the hater is angry at her/him for it.
If the hater was to accept the ending of the relationship, he would have stopped caring about the ex, but he still does, by hating. Hating's still a way of caring.
Not always like this, but most of the time, IMO.

Okay, I was going out with my first girlfriend and she bascily stole my first kiss/ french kiss (in an alien sort of style) and it was not the time for it! Then I found out she was cheating on me, so I broke up with her and I do not count that as my first kiss or french kiss.

I hate one of my ex's because when she broke up with me she dated my enemy then came back and asked if we could be friends which i said yes to, but me and her are in constant fights almost.

I knew when my other ex was goin 2 break up with me and we both had good reason to break up so me and her still kinda get along.

People tend to hate their exes because the decision to end the relationship is not a mutual one.
