Aside from censoring things in songs they own but do not approve of, I don't know.

For me its the unskippable commercials. Most of the time if I hit a video and VEVO pops up I automatically hit the back button. I don't need to see anything that either supports them or they support.

I hate the ads as well, but I wasn't aware that widespread VEVO hate was an actual thing

Well, there's the ads. That's annoying, but everything has ads these days, so I don't really care.

Then there's the not making things available in certains countries, but still, they're hardly the only people doing it.

However, daring to try and advertise Rhianna and other pop acts through banners and recommended videos while I'm watching rock videos...unfor-gorram-givable.

They block their videos on the YouTube app on my iPod, in an insidious ploy to try to get me to download their own shit-tastic, non-functional app so that I can watch 10 minutes of commercials for every 1 minute of music video.

THERE'S NOT A MIDDLE FINGER BIG ENOUGH
The iPhone/iPod youtube app is pretty shit, alot of stuff doesnt show up in results, what I did was go to m.youtube.com and save that link to the springboard/menu/desktop whatever it is

I'm not sure either.

I've no problem with ads (yeah, they are annoying) but so many people have YT partnerships now there's adverts everywhere.
They do censor songs, but most of the time the artist has their own channel where it's not censored.

I too, would like to see why more people dislike it. Genuinely curious.

Flashy widescreen, annoying as shit ads, blocking the music in other countries, making the videos unwatchable on mobile browsers, the occasional removing of videos that are using a VEVO-dictated song (while at the same time making the videos unwatchable on mobile platforms again).

It's not that they're run by Darth Vader and his league of Nazis, it's just that it's not that good.

For me it's the censorship. I prefer to listen to my music the way the artist intended it to sound, not with either gaping holes where words have just been taken out or some sort of weird sound effect over the word(s) that doesn't fit the song at all.

The ads are what get me. I hate ads, and with VEVO, they are pretty much unavoidable. Want to watch a Rob Zombie music video? Too bad, 30 second disneyland commercial first.

But, as an old-school heavy metal fan, much of the stuff I like is not on VEVO. XD

I don't really get the VEVO hate.

They could be better, but when the alternative is "No Music videos ever due to copyright conflicts", they're not that bad.

Yeah same here lol I knew of vevo for ages but never watched anything through them until today, Luckily for us, old-school metal from like 30-40 years ago doesnt tend to be held very tightly on the copyright leesh because the labels dont really care about it anymore so its easy as to find on youtube

They maintain a complete monopoly on the songs they own on Youtube, so if you have used a song they own in your video, even a tiny snippet of it, they will get the video completely taken down or at the very least mute the entire video, and they excercise these rights to levels that Detective Monk would call excessive.

And then they force 30 second unskippable ads into the beginning of all their videos, every single time you watch them, which is kind of dickish.

I hated it at first. I was probably more on the bandwagon than forming my own opinion. But I've hopped off it. I could care less now, they need money and it's 30 seconds out of my life, which I'll hop over here for that time while waiting, so ya not to much of a problem.

I was never bothered by youtube ads tbh, I simply hit mute, check on my facebook or something, come back to the video, enjoy it

The advertisements can get rather annoying. Still, I can just get up, comeback, and problem is solved.

They censor their songs, and I fucking hate that. And they have adverts (not that I see those). Adverts to watch a 3 minute clip? No thanks.

It's especially stupid when it's an artist like Eminem. Don't upload it, you know everry second word is going to be a swear.

I do use VEVO though, if it's a song where censoprship doesn't matter. It helps that they have good quality videos, and they are official, so I may as well use their videos when I can.

What the fuck is VEVO? Some music company, right? What exactly do they do?

So yeah, as you can probably tell, they never really bothered me. Just another shitty label/company that makes money off uninteresting music.
They are basically a company that buys the rights from artists to show their music videos on YouTube. That way, they're given the rights to pull down every single shirt music video from YouTube that they got the rights to.
Things bad about VEVO:
- They have ads, which they need though since where whould they else get their money?
- They use a tactic of only letting certain videos avaible in certain countries under a limited time, and put links to them to the right when they are finally avaible in your country. Just a way of making people go "ZOMG, GOTTA WATCH NAO UNTIL IT'S TO LATTE!"
- They censor the music, though they often release uncensored versions of the videos a couple of months later...
- If you don't like them, they are always on top of the page when you search for the music that they have bought the rights to
Things good about VEVO:
- They offer high quality videos and sound
- Rihanna

OT: I like VEVO, I like my high quality songs actually.

- Many videos don't have that much quality; I remember user videos that had better quality
- It's profitable for artists like Gaga and Nicky. It's not that profitable for other artists.
I remember videos with millions of views which were taken down - in the Vevo channel they only scored less than 100k views and therefore gave almost no profit to the artist anyway
- It took the "You" out of YouTube. I rather watch videos uploaded by fansites or by the bands themselves.
- Censoring. Seriously. What's the point of censoring Nine Inch Nails? (inb4 artist integrity)
- They remind me that certain corporations still own rights to many songs even if the artist isn't working with them anymore.
- OH GOD THE INTRUSIVE ADS. They are really annoying, specially when they are about 3 min and I can't skip until I watch 1 min. Of course, you *could* circumvent the situation but you'd be also hurting the Escapist.
- Blocking content on certain countries like the EVIL CORPORATIONS they are...

I'm tired of looking at Micheal Jackson, Rihanna or Nicky Minaj.

No, they take good music, place ads for crap music on them, censor songs, etc

Two things.

First, some times ads are longer than 30 seconds.

Second... Since when were videoclips supposed to give revenue to the label? Think about it for a second.

SmashLovesTitanQuest said:
Whatever you say dude, I listen to what I like to think of as interesting music and VEVO has never crossed my path.
If you don't consider Nine Inch Nails "interesting" then you are dead to me, lol.

If I could sum up my opinion on Trent Reznor in one sentence, I would say:
He won a Grammy for a song that included the expression "fist fuck" and won an Oscar.

VEVO has my support- the ads go toward keeping the musicians I like paid, while user-posted videos do not. There are exceptions, notably with songs that heavily feature profanity (which I listen to a lot of), but past that, I'm fine with it.
