VEVO has my support- the ads go toward keeping the musicians I like paid...
Hold it right there.

First, the amount of money they give to an artist depends on their popularity. Unless you listen to massively popular artists like Lady Gaga you're not giving them a lot of money.

Second, what about artists who are dead? Or artists who had disputes with Sony/UMG/whatever? Vevo is making money out of thin air, which won't ever reach the hands of many artists.

the major issue to me is that they stopped people from using the music they like in their videos. Now people get their videos muted or deleted. Listening to background music in others videos was just another way of finding good music i like. If you ask me, vevo is music sopa.

Again I hear mention of this VEVO and that apparently people hate it.
Is this one of those bizarre pockets of internet that if you don't already know where it is you can't find it?

Why is it that people give this notion of "Ads let them give you a free service" nonsense any sort of traction? If you have to endure advertisement, then what your getting is not free.

Im sorry, but I would rather live in a world devoid of television and films if it meant that the world was free of marketing. This notion of gaining economic stability through marketing and advertisement has fostered soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many problems in this world and it needs to be put to an end.

There's a lot of censoring that they do, and quite a substantial amount of content is blocked where I live. Basically because they can and will censor stuff that would otherwise be on YouTube for me to watch, which I have to go to other locations to access.

It makes interesting, better and less known music even harder to bring itself onto the market.

The Youtube Community has to hate something right? A Youtube Music Channel they can set up as 'evil!' Aside from that, what the rest of the guys said.

Yes, but if you listen to a fan uploaded video then you give the lesser known artists no money....
Okay, this is how it worked a few years ago. VIdeo clips were an indirect source of revenue. Why? It gave exposition to artists, and thus they became more profitable by reaching a big audience.

It was never a source of direct profit.

Since the label are the ones who pay to make the video, merchandise etc.
That only applies to famous artists. I doubt half of the artists under Vevo would be able to get them to pay for videoclips.

Merchandise? Let's not forget that they are selling stuff made in China sweat shops dozens of times it's price.

Vevo is the mash up of the most evil music corporations. If I had 100 bucks for every time an artist had to break up with them, I'd be well set.

I except them to pay for helicopters and pink Lamborghinis if you're famous enough. You're not? I bet they almost force you to pay for the whole video.

Nope.

Content ID

YouTube's state-of-the-art technology allows content owners to identify user-uploaded videos and audio comprised of their content, and choose what they want to happen when those videos are found: Make money from them. Get stats on them. Or block them from YouTube altogether.

I literally had no idea what Vevo was until a couple minutes ago when a friend passed me a video of some song called Day n Night or something like that, and my first impressions are that it loads like ass, and it's stupid to censor a song on the Internet, I didn't get any ads though.
