why I like batman? I like him because of the mindgames that are played in his stories. The psychology of Batman and the villains has me intrigued, and because Batman is a basic human. No superhero has a villain that is vital to his life like Batman with the Joker, that is my opinion.

Watched his parents die then travelled the globe for YEARS, training to fight crime. People like to see dedication, focus, and determination. They like to see that a human being can achieve these things

Why do I like Batman ? Because he is a Human stand among Gods. Many people will say there are a lot of character like that such Ironman or Capt. America. But look at it closely. Ironman is not a Human, he does not utilize what best of Human, Ironman made a suit. The suit is Ironman not Tony. The suit is a God, with all the Super abilities, the story of Ironman is the story of a man with a super suit, he is no different than Ben 10 or Green Lantern except there is no qualification to become Ironman. Capt. America all his stories can be summed into 1 work patriot, goodness. There is no struggle, the power come to him like a gift from Santa Clause. While Batman his abilities archives through pain, hard work, devotion. Yes, mastering 127 martial arts is most likely impossible. But mastering 50 of them isn't. Ask any martial arts teacher and they will tell you how similar the styles are: Kick Boxing, Boxing, French savage boxing etc... are the same; Jujutsu, wrestling, Judo, Sambo, etc... are the same; Most of Chinese Martial arts are the same. To learn all knowledge is not hard. A Phd student reads roughly 8 to 10 papers per days. Batman used all these knowledge and abilities to stand among gods. He represents Human. People said his feats are Plot Induce Idiotic. There is no such thing when you using your brain to outsmart s.o. When you playing chess even with the world best chest players. You still have 1% chance to win. Using what you know about that player, psychology warfare, etc... you can still win against him. Using Intelligent you can win against anyone unless that is the 1 and only almighty GOD.

He's more engaging than Superman, who is horribly overpowered and has very little inner conflict to empathize with. Bruce has a lot more going on than catches the eye. To argue that Supes makes a better superhero because he does everything better and faster is like ask why didn't the Fellowship of the Ring ride the Eagles to Mordor: it'd make a boring story.

He's the Goddamn Batman!

I can't really get into Superman because he just seems to perfect. I have a Doomsday comic and I haven't read much of it but I'll finish it eventually because Doomsday is an actual threat and it sounds interesting.
Anyway, what most people have said. He intrigues me because he isn't necessarily good and his commitment to justice means he puts his city in danger plenty of times.

The thing I like the most is the back story of the villains. Most are pretty well thought out and are really interesting to read about.

Batman himself is quite boring - especially in the movies (all of them) - but his rogues gallery is the best in comics.

Joker, Catwoman, Riddler, Penguin, Two Face, Scarecrow, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Bane... and that's just the big names - there's no other superhero, Marvel or DC, who can boast such an exceptional array of bad guys.

He is more "human" for not having superpowers like Superman, The Flash, Plastic Man and etc. I mean we can't exactly relate properly with Superman god like powers while Batman have an eternal struggle which make him more related to us in way.
I don't think that's true. Yeah, Superman has godlike powers but he's a simple man, raised on a farm in the heart of America. He just also happens to have powers, which he decides to use to help people out. Batman on the other hand through crazy trauma most people never experience, and if they do they won't have his insane riches, and if they had that as well, would probably do something other than spend it on years of martial arts training and bat themed ninja gear used to fight street level crime. Plus in the popular consciousness he's way more OP than Superman - no powers, AND can magically solve everything somehow.

Film Crit Hulk actually has a good piece about just this topic that I'm surprised hasn't been brought up yet.

Batman is just a guy with a lot of money who uses that money to help others. He could have easily became a villian with all that money in such a seedy corrupt city yet he doesnt. He disciplines himself to become an a hero purely to help the citizens of gotham and he doesnt this without any super powers. This is such an immense sacrifice hence why batman is a beast

Batman stories tend to be really good.

Batman the animated Series, the rocksteady games, the Dark Knight movies. They know a great deal of acclaim for being excellent fiction as a whole because the people who write for Batman tend to be in the upper echelon of comic book writers. The quality of the media in which he appears is probably the greatest reason for his popularity.

To me it is like DBZ.
It is a classic and if you know about classics it crates a common denominator to talk to other people.
But I am not interested in bat man... I just go along for the ride.

As for Superman, since when does being a nice guy make you a wanker? At what point did that transition occur?
I think he means 'wanker' as in 'too much of a goodie goodie, man this is unrelatable'. I actually prefer the old superman, when he really was a wanker.

Sure, the old comics are sexist as all hell, and supes does some really screwed up shit, but goddamn it's funny to laugh at the idea this was good moralistic, all american storytelling at one point.

I mean, seriously. Why? He's such a . . . boring character. The Punisher does "conflicted terror-bringing vigilante" better and then you've got the issue the Robin issue which completely destroys this "dark and gritty" tone.

Sorry, I don't mean to rant. I mean, yeah, OK, I dislike the character. I'm biased. But I honestly, truly do not see the appeal of the character. I'm completely lost as to why he's so popular. I'm looking to understand why people like him beyond "he's a badass" or "because he's Batman". A bit of a dissection would be lovely.
Frist off, I don't think a lot of people really like the Punisher, he has too much of that 90s brooding gritty attitude that really just comes across as being flat. Wolverine is better in that aspect.

Secondly, better villains.

Thirdly, go watch the new Batman animated movie "The Dark Returns" that's taken from the pages of the Frank Miller graphic novel. Best Batman yet, and I'm even comparing them to the live action movies.
