To me it is like DBZ.
It is a classic and if you know about classics it crates a common denominator to talk to other people.
But I am not interested in bat man... I just go along for the ride.

As for Superman, since when does being a nice guy make you a wanker? At what point did that transition occur?
I think he means 'wanker' as in 'too much of a goodie goodie, man this is unrelatable'. I actually prefer the old superman, when he really was a wanker.

Sure, the old comics are sexist as all hell, and supes does some really screwed up shit, but goddamn it's funny to laugh at the idea this was good moralistic, all american storytelling at one point.

I mean, seriously. Why? He's such a . . . boring character. The Punisher does "conflicted terror-bringing vigilante" better and then you've got the issue the Robin issue which completely destroys this "dark and gritty" tone.

Sorry, I don't mean to rant. I mean, yeah, OK, I dislike the character. I'm biased. But I honestly, truly do not see the appeal of the character. I'm completely lost as to why he's so popular. I'm looking to understand why people like him beyond "he's a badass" or "because he's Batman". A bit of a dissection would be lovely.
Frist off, I don't think a lot of people really like the Punisher, he has too much of that 90s brooding gritty attitude that really just comes across as being flat. Wolverine is better in that aspect.

Secondly, better villains.

Thirdly, go watch the new Batman animated movie "The Dark Returns" that's taken from the pages of the Frank Miller graphic novel. Best Batman yet, and I'm even comparing them to the live action movies.
