Why do people "Troll"?

It really does annoy me. Even though I know I am not going to change their opinion or even get them to shut up, in some cases I HAVE to reply...

So how do you respond to trolls? Do you have the will power to leave them alone? Or are like me, and get dragged in to arguements?

They troll for attention.

I usually will leave them alone, unless I mistakenly take them as serious. Then I'll attempt to correct them, and realize later it was trolling.

I mock them briefly, but then ignore them. I need to practice my insulting skills on someone after all, they might as well deserve it.

They do it to get a rise out of people, they like attention, good or bad. But bad attention is easy to get, they just post something so offensive that people feel obligated to reply and tell them off, however a true troll will find a stupid reason to shrug it off, further annoying the person who made the post to tell them off. It's a vicious cycle and I'll admit, I feed the troll way to often and easily.

Their basically someone who will purposely post something on a forum for the sake or getting an angry responce... An easy example is; "Anyone like Justin Biebers new song?" then the troll goes "blah blah Justin Bieber sucks! Your all gay" etc.

I must admit that sometimes the thought goes trough my head to do so on the: "Am I the only one..." threats. I must stop myself from telling: "Yes you are (special), move on and DEAL with it!!" ... phew.. that was nice! Sometimes I reply to them with a question, but most of the time I leave them be.
