Since when was prototype an RPG? =/
It's an open top, third person runner across New York. It's a bit like AC I would suppose.

Wait, wait. I'll try find the video...
Thats what i'm saying....it's in no way an RPG, i was agreeing with you.

Maybe I read too much of these boards when I'm bored but I've seen too many 360 fanboys gloating about Fallout 3(60) DLC and Mass Effect to take this seriously.

The PS3 can take all of the turn based japanese kawaii puke-fests.

A game has to have a fan-fucking-tastic story and setting for me to forgive the gameplay. Septerra Core and Sanitarium are my examples of passable games that don't really have good games.

(Why do the japanese have such an unhealthy fascination with five year old sorceress', catgirls, and boobs the size of fucking beach balls?)

FFXIII is going to be on the 360 so yay. Versus XIII I suspect will be an abortion of a video game melding genres and failing at all of them so I won't lose sleep over it. 360 dominates the jrpg market in the west right now woot.
I actually think that the normal Final Fantasy XIII will be the terrible one and Versus will be the decent one (at least it has potential).

Oh and I think that the PS2 still dominates the JRPG market everywhere. The best ones are for that console.

Have you ever played an Shin Megami Tensei game? Nocturne, Persona 3 or Digital Devil Saga? I don't want to sound like an asshole but you should play some SMT games before you doom every JRPG.

No, I have not, the story/characters didn't really appeal to me. A game has to grab me with its setting and characters. Shin Megami Tensei, to my view as an outsider of the JRPG series seemed like just another JRPG.

Understand something, last time I heard Square-Enix had a lot of it's stock owned by Sony. Not a majority, but a lot. This means that by definition they are going to favor Sony in all things. The "big" news that there was going to be a Final Fantasy game for the 360 being an oddity for this reason, however we also don't know exactly how much money Micro$oft wound up offering Square-Enix for that little concession, but going by the GTA IV exclusive content it was probably a crazy amount. As Sony doesn't own them/have a majority they can be overruled, they just get to have a (very substantial) opinion. The same also allegedly applies to a lot of other Japanese game developers. Even if it doesn't own everything Sony is like an octopus with it's tentecles in many pies. :)

It should also be noted that creating RPGs well is a lot of hard work, in comparison the types of games produced for the 360, even the "triple A" titles are a giant joke. The reason for this is that with your typical RPG they develop what amounts to a new engine from scratch. No "Final Fantasy" game plays exactly like another (or at least recently) for example. In comparison a lot of the games released for the 360 wind up using things like the Unreal, or GRAW engine which provides all the hard work, and then they just add new tweaks, graphics, and animation. Now graphics and animation are hard work, but not as much as doing everything from scratch.

In comparison RPGs also usually need MORE models and such than a comparitive action game to fill out a RPG bestiary, even when they rely on color changes of the same models at various levels. In your typical 360 shooter having maybe 15 differant opponent models (not counting bosses) is sufficient.

Basically RPGs don't really fit with Microsoft's marketing strategy, being too expensive to reliably produce. Even a mostly 2D RPG (like Disgaea) has a staggering amount of coding and art production behind it compared to what your typical game producer does when they buy the rights to an engine.

That is how I understand things.

Consider also that while Microsoft was focusing on the 360, Sony was investing it's money in winning the war for next gen video formats. It's only been turning it's attention back to the PS-3 now that it's won and Blu-Ray is the new standard. Their strategy is pretty much going to be the same as last time, and that is to cut the floor out from under Microsoft with a lot of original titles that don't just recycle the same engines. The result being you'll see exceptions, but the PS-3 is likely to have a stronger RPG line up.

The only way to stop this of course will be for Microsoft to encourage producers and such to start investing the $$$ to develop RPGs in similar numbers, but in general I don't think they are going to do so. As a result it will remain mostly a "twitch" platform with a few RPGs here and there.

Still, if you see Nocturne or DDS games somewhere (which is unlikely) for a few bucks you should buy it. The story, in both games, is unique (and really good) and the characters can be interesting.

...What?

Besides, there were plenty of JRPGs on the system. Lost Odyssey, Eternal Sonata, Blue Dragon (this one actually being made by two of the Big Three: Sakaguchi and Uematsu) come to mind. WRPGs see Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Mass Effect. Likely more out there, but these are the bigger names I know of.

I'm assuming you're a PS3 owner from what you're saying but you seem like you really want to play the above mentioned games. It's called console exclusives. The PS3 has some exclusive games that I'd like to play but I don't whine about it.
Yes, I do own the superior console, and yes, I am referring to the PS3 when I use the word superior, but we won't get into that!
I'd love to play Halo 3 and Gears of War 2...but in the end, PS3 owners will always have better exclusives- (Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet to name a few) and will also have the better console.
Oh another fanboy. How refreshing...

Can you blame most PS3 owners for being 'fanboys'?
You would be a fanboy too if you wasn't stuck with a cheap, antiquated excuse for a console.
No... But I can blame them for being hooting dick-holes to anybody that doesn't own the giant black monolith :D

Ok the other day i read square enix is making something like Final Fantasy Versus XIII but that its only going to be on ps3 i get mad then calm down a bit.
Later on i find out theres going to be like 2 or 3 Kingdom Hearts 3 but all for ps3 and psp i think.
So i'm asking did the maker of rpgs like date the biggest fan of 360 but he dissed her bad so she decided no rpg that Suprised-Pig likes (personal opinion) will be for every other console or something???
cz i mean xbox has a ton of crap rpg and like 3 gd ones when ps3 gets 1 great and thats it
Feel free to express anything else anyone wants to say

All in all why are there a lot of ok rpgs on 360 but the best on ps3
*Translation*

Ok, the other day, I read that Square Enix is making something like Final Fantasy Versus XIII [I'm not too deep into FF, so I don't know if that is game title, or what]. but that it is only going to be on the Playstation 3. I got angry, but then I calmed down a bit.

Later on, I find out there is going to be 2 or 3 Kingdom Hearts 3 (as in, multiple versions, maybe?), but I think they are only going to be for the PS3 and the PSP.

So here's what I'm asking: Did the maker of RPGs [male] date the biggest fan of the Xbox 360 [female], and then he really ticked her off so bad that she refused to allow any decent RPG games (in Squeaky-Pig's opinion) on her console?

Because, I mean, Xbox has a ton of crappy RPGs and only about 3 good ones. The Playstation 3 only has one, but it's the best. Feel free to express your opinions on this topic.

All in all, where are there a lot of semi-decent RPG games on the Xbox 360, but the best are on the PS3?

The biggest market for JRPGs is Japan, and the Japanese won't buy a console made by gaijin because of their national xenophobia (I gotta wonder if some of 'em would answer the "what would you do with a time machine" question by saying "go to 1854 and kill Commodore Perry"). The Japanese studios who make those games know it, and the money they'd make by selling to Americans with 360s doesn't make up for the money they lose by making a game for a console that nobody in their home market owns.

You want RPGs on the 360? Plenty of western RPGs available, many of which are 360-exclusive (or in the case of Fallout 3, may as well be when you consider the shit sandwich of a port the PS3 got---this, of course, not counting PC gamers).

I like how you used "cheap" and "antiquate" to describe the Playstation 3. That's like calling the 360 "sissy" and "a murderer trainer".

Also, I smell smoke in this thread. Might wanna head out quickly.

To get my opinion in, JRPGs head for Japanese systems, since the Japanese are more likely to own a homecountry system. Western RPGs are more likely to be on the 360, as Westerners are more likely to own a western system.

I could feasibly argue that two of the three (Fallout 3 and Prototype) are not traditional RPG's.
I don't think Prototype is an RPG at all, isn't it just supposed to be a action game with powers that you can level up? Fallout 3 and Fable 2 are RPGs though, just Western ones.

The Last Remnant
Final Fantasy 13
Tales of Vesperia
Star Ocean : The last hope
Mass Effect

- These are just a few RPG's (that I either own or have pre-ordered) that are on or coming to the 360 - as you can see, there are a fair few and many of them are very good games. Bear in mind they are just what I can see, I am sure there are many more. As for Kingdom hearts game -don't beleive what you hear - nothing has been announced with regards for a PS3 game, only on PSP and DS.
How are Infinite Undiscovery and Star Ocean? I'll be looking for another RPG to get after I finish Lost Odyssey and those two are at the top of my list.

That 'giant black monolith' you speak of has more technology in one square inch of it than 1000 Xbox 360's/
Um... No? That's technologically and physically impossible. Silly exaggeration. Silly fanboy. The only way to win is to not play, so goodbye.

Well both are made by tri-Ace so I imagine they'll be similar. Star Ocean is yet to be released in the UK (I've pre-ordred it). As for Infinite Undiscovery - well, read for yourself:
