Oh boy, you guys have never heard physicists talk, do you?kingmob said:This. Plus, if you are an actual theoretical physicist (like I am), some of the mistakes are quite jarring, since the lead is portrayed as a bit of a wonder boy. I only watched the first episode, but in the first 5 minutes they made a mistake so big they really already lost me as an audience...BrailleOperatic said:It seems like something written about nerds, rather than by nerds. And it's a little bit patronising.
And I just don't think the show's that funny.
Also, as always, smart people need to be stereotyped as asocial losers apparently, otherwise people might get intimidated or something. It comes across as 'too easy'.
If then you try and watch it, the unfunny jokes get really under your skin and no one good line can save the show. Friends was not that funny most of the time, but it didn't bother me that much, which why I'd still watch it for the few funny episodes.
From spending 4 years in the physics and mathematics department, with chemistry majors as my roommates, I have to say that I relate to Big Bang a lot. It's freakishly true to life.
Also, having that annoying genius roommate of a Sheldon? Yeah, that shit is totally true. I once have a roommate with blindingly high IQ, and holy shet, it was interesting living with him. Sure, we don't have 2000 roommate agreements, but there were definitely whacky ones. Those crap that they spout out about Green Lantern or Superman in the show? Replace it with anime talk. Physics principals? We talk engineering. And yeah, we make fun of people who do social science and softer sciences (biology and psych, we're looking at you!) too.
Which is also why I could relate with people who say that it's super annoying. I guess I've just grown tolerant to it now, and I really do find the show funny.
