I just spent 45 minutes looking around the docks district in Just Cause 2 for the final 3% of things to blow up, and I suddenly got dejavu. I did the exact same thing looking for all the jumps and pigeons in GTA4.

Is this just me that does this, what's the longest you've ever spent searching for pickups??

P.S. I finally found the last properganda truck in the docks, and have never felt so happy to hear an imaginary countries national anthem.

Spent two hours looking for the last gargoyle in Fable 2. Finally found it and rejoiced.

The last shard in Infamous.

My thumb really fucking hurt after that, I'll tell you that.

I had a glitched pigeon in GTA 4 so it wasn't where it was meant to be, finding it was not fun. *Sighs* I hate achievements, but I feel oddly compelled to get them.

I spent ages hunting down bobbleheads and skill guides in Fallout 3. I don't even want to think about the amount of time it took to find them.

If they put something to collect in a game I really like, I'll be collecting it. It's a cruel thing to do to me. It kicks my OCD into hyperdrive.

Edit: I just remembered doing this on Mass Effect. I explored every inch of those planets with that Mako. So many hours wasted. I hated that vehicle by the time I was done. I did enjoy trying to flip it driving down vertical surfaces though.

I always go after the hidden items in most games mainly because i'm a completionist and i get a sense of satisfaction out of it.

Same, the final boss/mission can be completed but, did you do everything in the game? The only game that I've completed 100% in my lifespan of 17 years is Ratchet and Clank Up your Arsenal.

I can't do too much searching all at one time...makes my brain ache and scream out for more pleasurable things, like sex...or a new game...usually a new game since I'm alone most of the time that I'm playing video games...

I usually play games for 1: stories or 2: gameplay, most often a mix of both. Collectibles are a HUGE waste of time. The only time I can go around and collect stuff is if its possible to do other fun stuff at the same time.

For example its fun to "collect" crazy jumps in GTA because you actually get to do a crazy jump not just pick up a shiny, its fun to collect stuff in prototype because moving around and wreaking havoc is cool and fun to do.

Not long, thank you internet.
The longest i would have to say though was in GTA:SA with the horse shoes. I had the PLAY mag back in the day with all the shoe & oyster locations. Im still missing 3 shoes, I must of passed them thinking i already picked them up during a mission or something =[ I cba going thru all 100 again to see which i missed.
My most recent pickup search was on AC2. Taken me around an hour thanks to the internet and Ezio's speed.

EDIT: Oh and after reading Furtburts post - Timesplitters Future Perfect challenges. I wanted Platinum on everything! That was time consuming..

I just stop looking unless I get really far without trying. On my ps2 games I used to do this all the time. Especially spiderman 2 in which I wasted hours of my life. At least SM2's travel system was fun as all hell.

For me it was the Golden Skulltulas in Zelda: OoT. Well also the heart pieces. I don't know how long it but probably was at least 15 hours of running around every area.

These days tho, I generally don't care as much for the collectibles. I like getting trophies and all but most of my games are between 60-80% because it's not a really big deal and it's just a waste of time to do that when I could have fun playing actual game content and having fun.

Just remembered the worst one, tomb raider underworld. I collected everything and then they released that patch which meant you had to delete your saves for the changes to take effect...Needless to say I couldn't be bothered to do it again.

Only if it gives a benefit. Such as the mentioned Golden Skulltulas (forgot what they did, though) and heart containers. Wind Waker was tough to find everything for.

Getting 110% in Crash Bandicoot 2 and 200% in 3. So many hours gone.

Mining all the gold in GUN was a pain, the pigeons in GTA4 were worse. Especially since you got a wanted level every time you killed one.

Beating Frederic with Claves in Eternal Sonata,
you had to backtrack through most of the game to collect 7 pieces of her soul to resurrect her and she was about 20 levels lower than everyone else by then.
Or beating the secret dungeon to unlock team level 6, which was MUCH harder than the last 3 fights combined.
