From all his reviews the only one I saw when he did not shit all over a game was Arkham Asylum. I like his reviews because he talks about the game as you would with your friends except alot faster and in a brittish accent. He gives no game a free pass like alot of others are suspected to, hes a hater pure and simple and what does the internet love more than haters. Also IMPS.
Are we talking about the same Yahtzee here? I've never seen him do a review before.
I consider his weekly wednesday videos reviews, if I am wrong let me know. And if I am wrong then what does he do if not review?
He's a comedian foremost and a critic secondly. He's definitely not telling you whether you should or shouldn't buy a game, if he did you'd only have a handful of games in your library.

He speaks the truth, and he's funny as well.

I also love his slideshow style.

This pretty well sums it up. The accent, the uterly informal tone of the reiviews, the gutbustingly humor, and the silly animation style all appeal to that little IMP in all of us who cries out as we play games that we know we should rag on but are to destracted to.

Because he has character, something you rarely find
Yet another fine point. In a world where reviewers often give shit the covited 10/10 it is refreshing to listen to someone rant about all the things that are truly bad about a game. And at the end of the day, his reviews are honest and from the heart and full of truly "Crap Your Pants Funny" lines and spicy curses.

True, it is also yellow and this seems to draw us in even though there are few instances where yellow is a god color. Perhaps it's the fact that it's unique.
And dispite what he may want us to think, his reviews really are funny, constructive, intelligent and informative.

At the end of the day (again), we love him because he is doing something differently, which hasn't been done in a LLLLLOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGG time in the world of video game reviews.

He's not afraid to point out the flaws of a game that other people ignore. Like God of War 3. I love that game to death, but his comments about how the game is an example of "too much variety" is true! I mean seriously, who actually uses ALL the weapons in that game? I only use the Hermes shoes when I have to.

Sure, he's funny, but he has too much of an emo atitude in relation to games: "I hate this, I hate that!". He should learn to respect other peoples ideas about the game and be less exclusive and more acceptive (<-did I write this well? XD) about other games.

PS: Besides, Daniel Floyd's group on ExtraCredits is much funnier.

You'll notice that Yahtzee often says, after clobbering a game, such as S.T.A.L.K.E.R Clear Sky review, "But it's actually good and I like it."
I like that he gives objective reviews even on games that he likes, so that we know his opinion and we know the actual standing of the game in comparison to others.

But honestly, I could analyze all day, but... It's fast paced, straight to the point, stimulating and keeps our attention. It's probably that more than anything.

Because Critics look beyond the 'Hollywood' shine of graphics and mechanics for the newlyborn. He looks at the things that make it new at tries if it actually works well. If it's not new he'll punish the makers for looking it like a copy of something else.

Yes, but you wrote 'write' wrong. (try saying that three times fast.)

He reminds me a lot of Charlie Brooker. And I LOVE Charlie Brooker. They have the same cynical and unimpressed way of talking about things, except Yahtzee speaks faster. A reason why I love him. Plus the images he uses are amusing.

An example of Mr. Brooker... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiwmYjk9ARA

If you like British people complaining about things in hilarious ways, do check him out.

I think yahtzee is pretty original with his reviews compared to other reviewers, but none as funny as him. No stars, no thumbs up or down,
no 1-10, just putting a bag over the game and hitting it with an ugly stick.

Hell, I would write him a love song but I can't beat Rebecca Mayes's for Yahtzee.

Because he's irreverent. He's an asshole, but he's a funny asshole.
I always find it funny when people get so upset whenever he winds up saying dumb shit, like the Sims 3 review. He's being paid to be an asshole, why are you surprised when he acts like one?

I like him. Met him when I was still at uni and he seems like a genuinely intelligent guy. I still find ZP funny, but I also find that in between the ranting and the raving, he actually has something to say about the state of games and the industry. It's just that his particular style of critique gets more notice than what he has to say.

Saying that he should respect other people's views on games... why? Why does he need to? He's not getting paid to be respectful, he's getting paid to be entertaining and to stir up the community, getting them talking about the games they play. WHY do you like a particular game? How do you think he's wrong? I read Extra Punctuation as well and he's generally come back with a decent argument for all his comments that have attracted mail.

That said, I'd prefer to make my own decisions when it comes to games. But then, that's my choice, isn't it? :)

Well, he has a very colorful opinion when it comes to video games, I mean look at his career in reviewing video games that is if you'd call it that (since we all think of him more as an entertainer). He made 2 youtube videos and he was immediately picked up by the escapist. That shows talent. His material has a unique comedic value that a lot of other wannabes have failed on youtube to grasp, unable to do what he does best which is to hold peoples attention.

For instance as many fans as Spoony has, his videos aren't as organized and well polished as Yahtzee's. Yahtzee just has that extra touch to really make his videos shine. Although I don't find him that special any more, but that has more to do with the fact that his critics aren't really that professional, and I've gotten used to his shtick.

His voice. And he can be so negative about really big games. I love hearing that.

His job is to bash video games, and he STILL couldn't bring himself to bash Portal. That right there shows a pretty deep understanding of what makes a good game. Portal had the best level design I've ever seen in a first person game, and 90% of those that didn't like it forget it was only $20 and/or didn't finish it.

Flame Shield Activate.
I think you're getting slightly off topic here.....
