He's vulgar, sometimes obnoxious, brutally honest, sarcastic, cynical, never celebrates mediocrity, and doesn't give a shit what other people think. And I wouldn't have him any other way.

Never met him to make any judgements about what he's like personally. I'm doubting IRL that he acts like he does in his reviews. Thus I can't say how I'd react to him IRL (and I mention this only because other people seem to be talking about it).

That said he makes me laugh. I can see how a lot of people who were attracted to him because he was new and irreveerant are getting bored with him. For me that wasn't really the appeal since I had seen the basic routine before with reviewers like "Scorpia" who I mention once in a while, albiet Yahtzee upped it a notch and moved it to audio and video rather than it being text.

At any rate, I wouldn't be surprised if he's suffering from some burn out after all this time. If he does wind up retiring or losing his audience (at least for this) I do hope he finds a decent job doing something similar eventually.

Also I'll be honest in saying that I'm not entirely sure why Yahtzee hasn't tried to do any voicework for video game characters or whatever. I honestly think he'd be fairly good at it.

For the same reason that people enjoy talk shows and reality TV; they like to watch somebody rage and hate on something or someone that's not themselves.

It says a lot about humanity as a whole, to be perfectly blunt.

'Cause he's a right asshole and honest about the games in spite of his bias.

I like him, but not as much. I don't think it's his fault either. It's our fault. When Yahtzee first started, there was no body like him. He hated on every game that came out. Shooting down games like a duck hunt. I'm sure I wasn't the only one that was blown away when he hated on Halo, or Smash Bros. But now we've all gotten use to it. It is now status quo amongst his fans. The only game I see people excited for him to bash would be Portal 2 to see how he will react.

He can be funny and it's an entertaining... thing to watch every Wednesday. Plus he's introduced me to several different games. He's really not as funny as he used to be though... I remember coming here over two years ago and watching the Spore video for the first time and laughing so hard I cried. I personally think that he hasn't made a video as good as his Spore review... ever. But nonetheless, he's still relatively enjoyable, if a bit hypocritically whiny.

From all his reviews the only one I saw when he did not shit all over a game was Arkham Asylum. I like his reviews because he talks about the game as you would with your friends except alot faster and in a brittish accent. He gives no game a free pass like alot of others are suspected to, hes a hater pure and simple and what does the internet love more than haters. Also IMPS.
Are we talking about the same Yahtzee here? I've never seen him do a review before.
ok, i'll bite .. if he isn't reviewing games, what is he doing during those clips where he talks about the game's story, characters, immersion, game play, tone, atmosphere, graphics, difficulty, the developers, etc.?

ya know, all the elements that go into a game review.

I like that he points out all the flaws in popular games. I agree with a lot of his points. Nothing is sacred.

it is funny, and he's got character, but I guess I just enjoy the cheap british humour... just like watching Holy Grail

His philosophy...
Everything is shit until proven good.
I couldn't agree any more with that.

There's so many mediocre throw-away titles out there these days that they really have to prove to me that it's worth investing money and time in. Not to say that there wasn't shitty software in the past, I can just remember a lot more games of previous generations that I still find more enjoyment with.

I hear a lot of people saying that his declining quality is just us getting used to him, but I disagree. I still love and rewatch a lot his older reviews. I think he's just in a rut. He needs to review fallout, that ought to get him out of it. It's broken as hell, but still apparently enjoyable (I haven't played it personally). That should give a lot of ammo.

he points out important aspects of a game when making fun of it at the same time:) pretty clever, and witty english humour, its priceless and fun ^^ i dont think he's "exclusive" - he simply hates stupid people (and yes, pretty much everything else, shut up!)

Because his analogies are amusing. I rather like when people criticize a game rather than review it. This is why I read the negative reviews of a game first. I want to see what issues the game has before I judge wether or not to get it. If I can overlook the flaws and have fun with it. And that's what Yahtzee does. Brings those elephant-in-the-corner issues out in the limelight so I can figure out if I'll enjoy the game or not.

Also he didn't shit all over Fallout 3. And he worshipped Saints Row 2 and Painkiller

Week after week this foreign asshole insults the games that i love and me as a gamer. He is a person that uses crude humor to express his feelings about games in a truly disgusting manor... and i think i'm in love. Yahtzee insults everyone on this forum but still makes us laugh our asses off every week. I hope that he continues to do his reviews for years on.

The novelty has been replaced by routine, but what do you expect after 169 episodes.

I still very much enjoy his ramblings.

And they might not technically be "reviews", but they are very much true. Why? Because they're funny; funny because they're true.

His job is to bash video games, and he STILL couldn't bring himself to bash Portal. That right there shows a pretty deep understanding of what makes a good game. Portal had the best level design I've ever seen in a first person game, and 90% of those that didn't like it forget it was only $20 and/or didn't finish it.

Flame Shield Activate.
I think you're getting slightly off topic here.....
Sorry, I'll summarize what I'm trying to say.

Yahtzee is incredible at pinpointing flaws in games that gamers, as a collective whole, should notice. Whenever a game is an unintuitive piece of crap, he will undoubtedly say so in his review. Like most people who play/have played a lot of games, he will ignore any redeeming factors when a game is unintuitive. He hated MW2 because the core game was terrible, and didn't even have to touch on the multiplayer. Plus he knows that multiplayer adds longevity to a game, but doesn't necessarily make it good.

The only thing I may disagree with him about is that games shouldn't be judged at all on their multiplayer. I'll be honest, when a game has a shitty campaign, I get pissed off. Every single Halo since Halo 1 has been a HUGE disappointment (for me) because of how boring and unintuitive the campaign is. However, Halo 3 was an incredible game for a lot of people because of what it did with multiplayer. Halo, Gears, and MW will all hold a special place for their multiplayer advancements, regardless of how crappy the levels were. There will always be people who are only into gaming because it's something else to compete about, and there will always be gamers who play as a form of escapist entertainment. His viewpoint most definitely represents the latter, as does mine.

TL;DR - I love Yahtzee because he has a
pretty deep understanding of what makes a good game.
For the record Yahtzee liked Call of Duty 4. Also.. Gears of War's single player was awesome. Not super long by any stretch, but it was long enough to last a few co-op sessions. The set pieces were memorable and the whole gameplay made a massive turn in how people play shooters.

Also put Xbox 360 on the map as far as I'm concerned.

I can laugh my ass off when I watch his reviews even though he is constantly insulting the games I love and he even insults me sometimes.
I think I love the fact that he is such an asshole and he doesn't give a fucking crap.
Why do you love (or hate) Yahtzee?
Because he sounds like me in everyway and makes all the points I do only to have people turn around and say "you got that from yahtzee!" even though what I had said I had been saying for weeks before hand
