o_0 Dude, that seems kind of spiteful. I could understand if you didn't want to pay full price for the campaign of a multiplayer-focused shooter or something, but because there's one character you don't like? I buy used games sometimes, so don't think I'm judging you for that. That's just a really petty reason to withhold support for people whose product you're enjoying. And you'd rather support GameStop? I think they've done some things a bit shadier than include a novelty bonus character in a game.templar1138a said:At this point, I buy used games for one of two reasons.
1. It's not available new anymore.
2. I want to play the game, but there's a feature I know about that I don't like, so I want to make sure none of my money goes back to the developer.
For example, Soul Calibur IV. I'm pretty meh about fighting games, but I've like the Soul Calibur games for the more visible differences between fighters and combat styles than are present in other games like Street Fighter or Dead or Alive. The character customization is also something I REALLY wanted to have a go with, and the fact that Soul Calibur III was PS3 only had been a big disappointment.
However, Soul Calibur IV had Yoda, Darth Vader, and Galen Marek as guest characters. Now, I don't care about cross promotion, but the idea of any weapons that weren't magical being able to stand up to a lightsaber pissed me off.
So I didn't buy the game new. I bought it used. I've enjoyed the game, and I've even used the guest characters. And none of my money went to the developers or Lucasarts as a result of that cash-in.
What I mean is including something for free that I would later have to pay for in DLC makes me want to pre-order it more.SirBryghtside said:Because it's cheaper, and sometimes you can get games you can't find anywhere else. I don't buy that many new releases, so finding the old ones is important.Um... yeah, that's exactly what publishers are seeing, and exactly what consumers are getting annoyed about. Pretty much every game out nowadays has a silly preorder bonus.TheMightyAtrox said:I usually do it just when I'm not going to spend a lot of time with the game (play the campaign and be done with it). Although I will be much more likely to buy new, usually pre-order, if I have a good reason to. I pre-ordered Assassin's Creed 3 and Borderlands 2 because of all the stuff they come with. That makes it worth it to buy new. ARE YOU SEEING THIS, PUBLISHERS? No, of course you're not.
Unless you mean Collector's Edition, which every high-quality game has done since the dawn of time. Not really seeing what your problem is.
You may get 150+ hours out of it but at least half of that is walking slowly because of encumbrance or load screens.JWRosser said:Definitely disagree with this - 150+ hours is definitely worth that. But hey. Subjective.Tanis said:It's games like Fallout 3 that ain't NEAR worth the 60USD they're asking for.
I just bought two new game imports for $90 together. Max Payne 3 and Assassins Creed 3.Zhukov said:Cheaper. It's that simple.
I can buy a brand new high-profile PS3 game for $110. (Australia. Shut up.)
Or I can wait a few months and buy it for $70. (Seriously, stop laughing.)
Or I can wait a few months, trade in some old games and get it for $30.
I make no apologies for saving money. Fuck the developers and publishers. If they want my day-one new game money they can either lower prices or make games that are really worth those ridiculous prices.
