I don't fear death, because the thought of becoming one with the blackness of the universe gives me peace.

Because if God and heaven don't exist, then after you die, there's nothing.

Someone people wonder what it's like after you die, and I figure it's a lot like it was before you were born.

Nothing.

And I'm not a big fan of that.
From what I recall, I didn't have too many worries before I was born, so I don't see the fuss, really.

Seriously, though, like most people, I'm more afraid of the process of death than the state of being dead. Dying, no matter how cushioned, cannot be a pleasant experience, save the final moments of release, I'd speculate.

To that end, I would prefer to have my death be closer to an EVENT than a PHASE. I will do everything in my power to ensure that in the inevitable possibility of a terminal diagnosis, the end occurs on my terms, by my own hand, if possible.

Auto-Euthanasia is the way to go.

I don't.

Honestly. I think it'd be a good time to quote a bit of Greg Graffin right now (or it might've been Brett Gurewitz).

"Look at all the living and you'll ask yourself why, oh why do we pity the dead?"

I've thought over and over about this single line from a song on the topic, really.
Why should we fear death? I'm not saying I want to die, but I'm saying that even if nothing's there; it means we have nothing to worry about ever again.
And anyway, look at all the wars and whatnot, I think I'd prefer nonexistance for humanity than for more wars.

If you don't fear death, what are you supposed to be afraid of?

Being dead won't bother me, it's the part before I die when I know it's coming that will be killer.

I fear what comes after, i dont want to cease existing for eternity since eternity is a fucking long time. We only get 75ish years in this life out of a whole forever amount of years and the fact that we only get one shot at life freaks me the hell out.

I actually hope there is a Heaven just so i can exist in a conscious state for eternity, death itself is hell for me.

I don't fear death.
Been there.
Done that.
Got the t-shirt.
Had last rites twice.
Relatives got the phone call that I was gone.
Fooled them though.
BTW - I'm religious. Orthodox Catholic. No reason to fear death.

nothing more than not knowing what comes after - my scientific knowledge says everything just fades to zilch in a few moments, and it's all for nothing... my philosophical side says that nothing can be ruled out.

it could be heavenly, or purgatory, or hellish. and not even with any reason or rhyme to it.

Also there's the worrying possibility of becoming a disembodied spirit, and ending up bound to the scene, literally unable to look away, as my family goes through all my effects and discovers just how wierd and perverse my life was.

I actually take solace in the fact that I will have an ending to the story that is my life. I don't want to live forever. I want to eventually be free of conscience. But not right now.

What really scares me is dying. Unless the way that I die is being shot through the head by a barrett .50 cal while I am in deep sleep.

I don't. A combination of strong religious faith and a feeling that I've done enough that I won't be remembered as a complete lost cause means I could die in peace.

Doesn't mean I WANT to die, though! That latter item in the previous paragraph could always stand improvement.

If you like anything, even if you like your own personal brand of Nihilistic edginess, then fearing death is absolutely rational.

This. Because tbh I'm a pussy and don't want to get hurt. I think i'd kill myself rather than die slowly.

Also, I fear it because in my belief after death there is nothing. No afterlife, no limbo no heaven no hell. Nothing. Now this is scary because it means my life is my one shot and when it's over that's it...

It's unknown, it's unfathomable. It can take everything we love away and never gives it back. We write thousands of stories 'explaining' it, but we never really can. Death is a damn scary thing, I think we're all in agreement on that, but why do you fear it? Is it that you fear the unknown? Do you fear having everything taken from you? Do you fear for those you love, and how they will live without you?

And yes, I'm in a screwed up mood right now.
Its the end, compared to anything else it should be the least desireable really. I feel this way as an agnostic anyway, there's nothing to look forward to in death except the end, and my life doesn't suck so bad that I should wish for that.
