Well said.maximilian said:Surely a thread on "why do you love racism?" is a going to provoke more discussion and pointless pontification. Is there going to be anybody here who will claim anything more interesting than anecdotal diatribe? I don't like racism because it doesn't give people a chance. However, in the amount of times I've been mugged - the majority of it has been at the hands of 15 or so Lebanese boys. Is it racist if I steer clear of them in the street? No. Is it racist if I don't buy a house in a Lebanese area? No. The fact is, race is often mixed with economic standing, and economic standing is relative to crime. I'm saying "avoid the poor people who always mug me due to inexplicable social and masculinity issues" which in this case translates to "ah, don't go down there mate, there are tonnes of lebs." A group of people with a distinct nationality are an easier identifier. That's why "lads/chavs" are called "lads/chavs". They may be white, but we've named them to identify them.
I'm going to go ahead and say that you're bullshitting us to sound noble, and have no real experience with racism in order to garner a reply from you, because asking you to simply expand on this lofty, feathery, go-with-the-herd statement is too boring.I_LIKE_CAKE said:It is one of the myriad forms of ignorance, all of which grate on me like salt in an open wound.
Yes, but anyone can rap... black, white, asian, whatever.Ignignoct said:Indeed, yet I find it hard to find a progressive rock song that glorifies the strength of character it takes to hold someone at gunpoint and take their belongings in a validation of one's own badassery.
Don't get me wrong, if I see a black dude wearing an [Adult Swim] shirt, I assume we could be best buds.
Thank goodness you dodged the substance of my argument. Now I can relax and assume my uncontested views are valid by virtue of their defensibility!Booze Zombie said:Yes, but anyone can rap... black, white, asian, whatever.Ignignoct said:Indeed, yet I find it hard to find a progressive rock song that glorifies the strength of character it takes to hold someone at gunpoint and take their belongings in a validation of one's own badassery.

Indeed. And as shown by Will Smith, rapping doesn't have to be about guns, crime, drugs, violence, sexism or the like. It can be about life, joy, pride of one's children, dealing with hardships... it all comes down to the artist and how s/he chooses to move the audience.Booze Zombie said:Yes, but anyone can rap... black, white, asian, whatever.Ignignoct said:Indeed, yet I find it hard to find a progressive rock song that glorifies the strength of character it takes to hold someone at gunpoint and take their belongings in a validation of one's own badassery.

Good, we have an example of an outlier in rap music that isn't about b*tches-cash-cars, even if it is so painfully "pop" that it barely qualifies.HazukiHawkins said:Indeed. I agree with you.TheBXRabbit said:The reason I hate racism is because it is just idiots forming opinions and prejudices against people before they even know them.
I think it's totally okay to hate someone of a different race because they're annoying, or an asshole, or psychotic, or really lazy, or they do nothing but complain, or they banged your girlfriend, or any other reason someone can deserve hatred. But I think hating someone BECAUSE they are a different race is stupid.
You don't know them yet, you have nothing to base hatred off of. Give people of different races, creeds, and cultures the same chance to know them as you would anyone who is of the same race, creed, or culture as you. That way you're more likely to find people you truly relate to.
Plus, if you then decide that yes, you really do hate somebody, you'll have much more valid reasons to hate them, making you feel far more justified in your opinion. And when you try to explain or justify your hatred to other people, they won't just immediately think you're a racist and start hating you.
Oh, and when people online use racism? That's just trolling. Respond to it if you wish, Pwn them if you can, and accept that on the internet, people will be so emboldened by their unrestrained anonymity that they will say absolutely anything to get a reaction, no matter what that reaction may be.
Actually, I was trying to say that it's completely okay to hate the people (or more likely the person), but it's not okay to hate the people just because they are "the people". That, and that you have to know someone before you can truly and legitimately hate them.Ignignoct said:I agree with you.TheBXRabbit said:The reason I hate racism is because it is just idiots forming opinions and prejudices against people before they even know them.

Hate the culture and actions, not the people.
