This video is great, its worth a watch even if you just watch part of it (its quite long)

So...Gamers <3 Japan, we have established that, but why do you heart Japan?

Games like final fantasy, Legend of Zelda, Metal Gear anf of course Mario.

Best game to have come out of Japan?
Inovation in game mechanics?
Innovation in hardware?

or

Food?
Culture?
People?

Me personaly, Dragon Quest VIII is the best game to have come out of Japan, that world is just captivating and the colour and the sense of a huge journey, and a massive world.
I love Japan because the world would be a far less happy and magical place without...say Nintendo.

Miyomoto and Kojima are just amazing designers with amazing ideas that sets them apart from the rest of the industry

So why do you heart Japan?

I don't. I enjoy some manga and a few games from the place, but I'm not one of those Japanophiles who are obsessed with the country. Those people irritate me to no end.

Gamers heart Japan?

We do?

I was under the impression I loathed Japan for sexualising children in mainstream media and then spreading it to the West so weeaboos could carry on about how their love for a 12 year old girl is awwwright and not at all creepy.
Oops.

Well, considering I currently live in Japan, I would have to say I heart it.

TBH, by now, I've just gotten so used to how things are here, that I can't really give a particular reason why, but I just do. The people are so friendly and welcoming, the culture is so unique and fascinating, the language is fun to study and speak, the food is delicious (in some cases), the history is deep and rich, and then of course there is its pop culture.

Japan really is much more than meets the Western eye, and when the dust finally settles on the tragedy of the earthquake and the nuclear situation is cleared up, if you ever get a chance, I do recommend a visit to anyone who reads this. It'll be a very eye-opening experience!

You call them *people*? They don't have souls, like every other type of fanboy.

I hate all Japanese games, or JRPGs as that's all that they seem to make. I hate their comics and cartoons that people lovingly call "anime and manga". I hate their Jap-Pop and most of their music. I think the only good thing to come out of Japan would be the samurai and the cars.
That probably makes me a hater, the polar opposite of the fanboy, but then, i have reason to hate them...
The games are bad and always have terrible story lines and angsty teenage transexual characters, the cartoons/comics are the same as the games, and the music makes me want to bash my head on a concrete slab until my brain falls out.

When talking about RPGs, the term "Western" appears a lot. "Eastern" doesn't exist however, only Japanese. This doesn't just go for gaming though; it's Japan vs the West in a lot of different fields. There's just a lot of awesome stuff coming out from Japan.

I heart Japan because of the games and anime. That probably goes for the rest of the Escapist as well.

Also, porn.

Mainly the people and the level of respect that country demands.

Honestly, not many other places in the world can say they reacted like Japan reacted to the earthquake. Everybody stepped up, barely any freakouts. In hurricane Katrina, they each would have gotten a special segment about how they reacted in the US

Yeah, no, I liked Japan when I was 15, back when it was cool. Gradually, as my friends bought more and more anime and manga, I became disenchanted with their artistic culture. Now that I'm approaching middle-age life, I'm more into folksy European stuff.

You know, they hate us westerners for ruining their women by giving them progressive views, right?

I love Japanese Manga, Anime, and Video games. I also love the way their women look. My favorite race for women easily. I love how perverted they can be, and their fetish for giant robots.

I love Japan, 100%.

I don't particularly like jrpgs but I love me some Capcom.I loved my sega back in the day.I like animes. But most of all there's a profound respect for a nation that has rebuilt itself time and time again and has much to show the world in terms of discipline without being nazi about it.

I've been fascinated with Japan for so, so long that, even though I haven't yet visited there it feels familiar. In high school I knew much less, just the cartoons (Star Blazers and Speed Racer) I watched before the bus came, or articles in the National Geographic. In college I learned the cartoons were called "anime", watched Record of Lodoss War & Ranma 1/2, and began reading manga. My internet handle is a reference to Appleseed. I was turned onto Japanese RPGs when FFVII came out for the pc, then got a SNES emulator and Playstation. Meanwhile I've learned about Japanese culture and history from a thousand sources, through the web and their stories. I've enjoyed sushi, yakisoba, teriyaki and green tea. I've eaten natto (and survived). All these ways, and more, are how I heart Japan.

Hadn't heard that, no. They can't blame me personally, though. I wasn't even born when those views started to take root. ;D

Also, I meant the progressive views of the Japanese people in general, not just the women. Although I suppose that, being in list form, I could have sorted that better.
Japan is actually probably one of the most conservative countries in the industrialized world. Progressive by the standards of some Americans, sure, but in pretty much everything, from its politics to its culture, by worldwide standards they are quite heavily conservative. You'd be surprised.

You know that Japan hearts the United States too, right?

I don't know of any culture of the world that's free of unenlightened opinions of foreigners.
