I'm Canadian, so I won't be voting in your elections, but if I was, you'd better believe I'd be voting Democrat.

Obama is the closest thing to a left-wing politician that the United States has had in decades, and as a dude who leans to the left, I think that is a good thing. His proposals on health care, the environment, and education all make more sense to me than the Republican alternatives. Furthermore, he's the only genuinely charismatic political leader to come along since I was born, in either the United States or Canada.

Furthermore, I'd ask the same question about McCain. Don't get me wrong; when I heard that McCain was likely going to be the name on the Republican ticket, I smiled. At the time, I felt that McCain represented all that the Republicans should be - he was the straight talker, a guy whose opinions were based on his experience, who did what he thought was right. Since then, however, I feel like he's realized that he's no spring chicken anymore, and that this is like as not going to be his last chance to be President, and as a result he's sold out to the worst, most petty and hateful elements of the Republican base. He used to be the straight talker, but I feel like he sold out, just so that he could have his dream of being President of the United States. Obama, on the other hand, is the same guy he always was - respectable.
Agreed on all counts, except I'm not very left wing at all.
/Agreed, Quite left Australian. and the prospect of another term with republicans, terrifying.

I'm going to employ the same backward logic you used.
Since McCain has eating with Laura Bush at some point in time, and Laura Bush killed a man, McCain is not only friend to a murderer but also eats babies and murders there parents.
Did Laura Bush kill this individual before or after the lunch? Was the murder public knowledge? Did Laura wish she that she did more? That should be the question, having lunch with someone before an act is committed shouldn't be held against you, however, in the case of Obama, Ayers had admitted committing these acts when Obama was eight years old. The question of character choice comes into play when you decide that you don't mind relying on a person that has committed domestic terrorism, was proud of it, and wished he did more.

Uhh...you do realize that the economy tanked because of 8 years of conservative policies and spending....
I know he posted this awhile ago, but the ignorance of this post bears re-posting.

That's right folks, apparently a government spending billions on an unsuccessful war is the entire cause of home foreclosures, bad loans, the stock market crashing, and the potential credit crunch between major banking insitutions.

yzzlthtz.. the economy "tanked" due to the failed political belief that everybody deserves to own a home even if they can't afford it. The economy failed because normal people like you and I took on loans and lines of credit that they couldn't possibly repay. And all of this started in 1995 via the Clinton adminitration, I know Bush is the Pangeatic answer for everybodies problems these days but 1 man doesn't control the economy.

You're anti Obama argument is that illinois sucks, and he doesn't represent real Americans.
My Anti palin argument? Alaska sucks, and she doesn't represent real Americans.
Seems we are at an impass.

However, I like him, because I agree with his policies. He wants to cut Middle class taxes, Set-up universal healthcare, Cut taxes on seniors, double education funding, leave Iraq over the course of 16 months, focus on catching Osama in Pakistan, and rebuilding Afghanistan. He wants to improve gay rights, he wants to impose a windfall profits tax on oil companies, He wants to invest billions into green energy research, he wants to close tax loop holes, he wants to repeal the bush tax cuts, he wants to switch our foreign policy to be more diplomatically based, he wants to pay companies to create jobs here, and he wants to help china set a minimum wage to reduce the rate of outsourcing to there. More policies? Pro-life, pro-stem cell research, and anti-nuclear power.

But I'll be ignored, and you'll all quote the one dumb ass who says something like "I like obama becuz hez jezuz!", and this will dissipate.

They served on a charity together. What if a neo-Nazi joined the red-cross. Would everyone who worked at the red cross then be an anti-Semite? No? Then stop trying to convince Us Obama is a terrorist.

Canadian here.

I like Obama 'cause he's black. There. I said it. Seriously though, there is probably going to be a black man in the Whitehouse. He must be the smartest person on the planet. A genius and Grandmaster of strategy the likes of which the world has not seen since Sun Tzu. 50 years ago he would have been drinking out of different fountains. 150 years ago he would have had a price tag. America is about to step into a new, enlightened age.

I'm not sure why conservatives are so against anything that resembles socialism. Any socialist ideas that a man like Obama presents are mild versions of what many European countries have been benefiting from for years.
Ewwww Europe! We came from there. And we also copied their idea to buy the banks and it worked. It's like a smart vagina!

Oh the ignorance. You think the only connection between the two of them is that they just served on a charity board. I bet you believe Jimmy Carter really saw a UFO and that, because Bill Clinton says so, Oral sex isn't sex.

I'd have to say I like Obama mainly because he and I both are liberal, but as much as I like him, I feel more driven by my dislike of McCain.

I said nothing about the war. I was referring to laissez-faire conservative economic policies, that allow for such things as sub-prime-rate lending via non-regulation and non-examination. you'll note that, after Clinton's presidency, our country was in economic surplus. Now we're in severe debt...
so can you blame 1 man? yes. for being the spokesman of a confused, out-of-date, out-of-touch and generally corrupt political party.
How do conservatives keep winning elections despite inane policies and outright lies?
2 ways:
Abortion. Gay Marriage.

I don't particularly like Obama and I don't think he's the next greatest thing to happen to the United States, I do believe that Obama/Biden is better than McCain/Palin though. That is what's so great about him, he isn't braindead or near death.
