Magic moments that are all the more precious because someone else was there to share them.

I generally don't play online. Most of the games I own are single-player only. Since I'm the only one of my gaming friends who has a PS3, and the considerable lack of local multiplayer in video games these days, I don't play games with my friends very often, online or otherwise. We generally resort to combining our strengths to play a single game. It's how I beat the Tower Knight in Demon's Souls.

For the most part, I play online in games where the single-player and the online are seamless. (e.g. Dark Souls, Journey)

I have gotten into Together Mode on Kid Icarus: Uprising, though. That's pretty fun, and helps it me out in the single-player mode, so I have an incentive to play.

I tend to sear away from the FPS's now days, too many whining brats. I do like some of the casual face book games like battle pirates. I run an alliance and the comradery of the members is really groovy. I'd say what keeps me playing online games is my friends. Playing online gives me a chance to chill out and chat while kicking arse.

I play online games because I work nights and didn't want to be completely anti-social during my downtime when I'm alone in the house.

It's hard to do much with friends and my gf when they are at work when I am out of work, so I started playing MMOs to be a LITTLE social. I honestly think that if I didn't have a night job, I'd still be playing only platform games, and I don't think I'd even bother with the social aspect of those systems (having had to deal with my gf's irritation with XBox Live online interaction makes me QUITE certain I wouldn't deal with it, at least).

I enjoy multiplayer because it is always changing slightly and no two enemies are the same. Whenever I come across a real challenging opponent I sit up a little straighter and make it my personal goal to outplay them. Also pulling off insane tactics against real people is what makes video games fun for me. Particularly Halo with the ability to jump out of flying vehicles to save the day with a badass stunt.
Also I meet cool people because, contrary to popular belief, not everyone with a mic is annoying.

Throwing more players in the mix makes things even more unpredictable, which is generally more fun. It also allows you to socialize while playing games, which is usually a lot more fun than playing on your own. A lot of people enjoy the competition too.

I like the idea of completely annihilating everyone and assert my dominance on them.

I play online because i want that cool looking ninja outfit for my impostor.
This and i recently started to enjoy the competetive side of online gaming (most of the time, sometimes i rage like a tourette kid, the others should be glad i´m not a headset user).
