Well to me it's the most addictive, college ruining game ever, so yeah I'm kind of in love with it. Makes me sad that my comp is really holding me back though, because when my frame rate dips I start sucking, bad. Man, I need a new one...

Might be because we have our own Escapist TF2 servers. (85.13.254.51:13013 for the UK based one)

We organise games in this group [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/chat/The-Escapist-Team-Fortress-2-Group-PC] and then head on over. Come join if you feel like playing with other Escapists, we're friendly!

The art style.

The art style.

The art style.

Seriously...I wouldn't play it without that.

Think I might have clocked 5 mins playtime with it. For example I like l4d2 a lot more. It has a nice visual style...and probably a great balance (?) but it just hasnt hooked me. Its not bad...just meh.

Never even played it. But it seems that in every thread that gripes about a certain aspect of a game, there's always several "DURR HURR YOU DON'T GET THAT ON TF2" posts.

I have, however, watched the "Meet The..." videos. They're pretty good.

Edit: By the way, "because [insert obscure TF2 in-joke here]" is not very compelling evidence to those of us who haven't played it.

SANDVICH PAWNCH!!! Way more effective then a FALCONE PAWNCH! Also Sandvich!!! That's the most powerful weapon IN the game, much more stronger then a tactical nuke! Also there's more then just regular maps like 2fort, there's surfing, prop hunt, and many more custom maps

Honestly I should hate it. The game play is childish, the weapons function so poorly and the limitation of the classes means there is very little flexibility in tactics you can employ in a successful way that it becomes... predictable. Sentry X will usually be in position Y and heavy A is going to be chew you up if you don't deal with dedicated medic B for example.

Yet, YET... I like it. The cartoon implementation makes these obvious flaws seem... well appropriate! The childish game play is suitable for such childish art style, it is like your in a cartoon and the limitations are those you would find in a cartoon universe. Over all this makes it a fun little game to play and one you tend not to care about stupid things like K:D rates... though as a engineer I don't have to worry about that in any case, my sentry beats your... everything... any day.

Can't wait till engineer patch comes out, then this dedicated engineer will have even more things to ***** and complain about. Fun times to be had!

It's fun. It's got a great sense of humour and it's well balanced. And fairly original. When nowadays any one of these is extremely rare in a game. Especially the fun part.

I haven't played it. I tend to dislike floating-gun games as they are to the modern era what platformers were to the early 90s.

In no particular order:

-The amazing art style, cheery, vibrant colors, light humor, AMAZING characterization (seriously, try describing each of the characters without saying how they look or what they do. You'd be amazed at how long you can go) despite very limited exposition/dialogue.

-Partly because of said art style (I don't mean to diss, but the people who find the "childish cartoon" vibe to be beneath them are usually teenage, immature pricks) the community is pretty relaxed and devoid of griefers. You get an unusual share of hackers and 1337 kids every free weekend, but for the most part players are pretty civilized and easy-going.

-The gameplay is surprisingly balanced considering the amount of stuff they keep adding in, and the strict limitations to each class's role and abilities really forces people to work together. There's also a much greater variety of guns, weapons and abilities, whereas most FPSes only feature hitscan weapons with varying degrees of power, accuracy and reloading speeds. Finally, gameplay is very focused on close range combat and is designed so even complete newcomers can contribute somehow.

-It's 20 bucks, for fuck's sake (and even less if you buy the Orange Box, which you totally should). TF2 is hands down the best value for my money I've ever played, AND THEY KEEP ADDING MORE STUFF FOR FREE.

Eh, it's ok. I had some fun with it a few years ago, but it never really caught my attention. Probably the game I played the least out of The Orange Box.

I like it because I can roleplay as a Pyro without fire marshals and police men showing up at my door the day after.

Also, it gets a ton of updates of free content that I would normally have to pay for if it was published by... other people.

Its different to the other shooters in the world. Its fun and easy going. The whole game seems to be filled with humour.
The class mechanics works so that there is no 'all powerful' weapon choice, each are balanced and have their purpose.
I also like the community, valve seem pretty involved with their PC community. Something i wish other developers would do...
