So, today I registered on Rotten Tomatoes (finally) since I saw a very interesting User Review. It was about 500 characters long, if that, and written by what I thought was a 20 year old woman. The review was about G.I. Joe. After about 5 comments or so about how she is blatantly ignoring what happened in the movie, she says she is "done with me" and blocks me.

Why is it that people get so scared when someone confronts them about their opinion? Do they find no need to defend it? Or is it because they don't even know what the hell they're talking about in the first place? Needless to say, she though G.I. Joe was an awful movie, but that Transformers was good. It really boggles the mind.

I find myself being drawn back here more and more often because people will actually, get this, discuss topics/issues. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Whether in Real life or right here on the forums?

I'm guessing they didn't even watch the movie. People who don't defend their opinion don't usually have a reason behind it. They just follow it blindly and know nothing about it.

The world is filled with people with limited mental capabilities. She most likely got tired of arguing with you as you failed to see that she was obviously right and didn't agree.

She couldn't be wrong, never. Most people I know IRL are like this. They always think they are right and if you tell them otherwise they assume your dumb or just trying to be annoying and just try to ignore you.

Its actually kinda humorous. Her's was(still is at the moment) the Member Review of the Day, the qualifications for being that must be quite daunting *sarcasm*. She mostly complained about how a character pulled out Dubble Bubble Gum and when a character logged onto a computer, Norton Anti-Virus popped up for 0.5 of a second. She said it was "blatant advertising".

I just wish people thought for themselves sometimes. Getting into debates (that don't devolve into flaming eachother) are very entertaining.

Haha I guess this is true. I really just wish it wasn't.

Well, there are a lot of insecure people in the world.

Oh, by the way...

I've got two points of advice for you.
-There's a very fine line between defending yourself and attacking someone else. You crossed over the line, which led to your probation.
-Clean up your atrocious grammar.

are you saying you'd be offended if someone called you an assnugget?cus thats not much of an insult, especially cus it stemmed from him saying my joke was stupid and pointless, which it wasn't cus i was just trying to make a thread less serious, without ditracting from it's main point.

Still it was uncalled for and enough people must have thought so too. Hence the probation.

I think the first step to understanding this is to abandon any arrogant notions of them being ignorant or stupid.

Some people just don't like heated argument, as is their right to. Don't forget also that the written nature of internet communication almost always conveys argument with an undercurrent of unintended contemp and sometimes anger.

Perhaps she posted those thoughts in the heat of the moment and, once she cooled down, realised that she didn't mean all that. When you submitted your input, she was too proud to tell you that. And you know what it's only natural to be too proud to admit that you're wrong. It could be the case that she thinks you are right and doesn't want to admit it. No one ever likes doing that.

So I suppose my short answer to your dilemma is that: she isn't stupid or ignorant, she just doesn't want to continue the discussion, for whatever reason. The real danger is you thinking badly of her for that. A contemptuous response towards her course of action is justification enough for her discontinuing the discussion.

Maybe he or she was caught off guard-whenever I put down a review for a site, be it Rotten Tomatoes or Fanfiction, it rarely if ever gets replied too. She may of just left it their expecting it to be passed over. Heck, if I had someone retalialiate to this post I would be taken back.

You can debate for as long as time itself specially in the Internet but if there isn't an impartial third party, there really is no point of continuing. Sometimes you just got to turn around and step away or risk getting baned.

OH and haven't you seen the SNL Weekend Update skit about the "Internet girl". Girls are already less likely to succeed due to their skills in math and science why is a 20 year old woman reviewing a movie shouldn't she have a blog about cooking.

You know, I had just that problem this morning...er *checks clock* make that yesterday morning. Anyway, I argued my point that SSBB for the Nintendo Wii sucks, but I gave reasons, I was polite, respectable-ish, and didn't flame anyone that disagreed, I just answered the posts and presented my arguements.

I was flamed by about seven people, one of whom called a mod on me who issued a warning. When I PMed the guy that reported me, he just said I was a troll and Ineeded to stuff it. I really expected better from the escapist posters, but what's done is done.

That's not an opinion. Opinions are about things that are open to interpretation. What is not open to interpretation is the reason you got put on probation: You called someone an "assnugget". Something you can have an opinion on would be, say "The legality of abortion" (just to pick something commonly debated). Since none of the reasons people give are hard-boiled "fact", and all has to do with a sense of what you personally think is right and wrong, that is something you can have an opinion on. And you wouldn't be suspended for expressing an opinion (something you only briefly touched on in your initial post, though it was truly just thinly veiled complaining), you'd be suspended for derailing the thread.

OT: I honestly have never had an experience of someone "running away" from me in an argument. Part of that is the fact that I normally will concede points in the other person's favor, which tends to draw them back in a vain hope of converting me to their side. I (surprising as it is on the webbernet), tend to actually get in debates, rather than arguments. I like to come out of exchanges with new opinions and ideas.

I guess you're right. I sometimes found some people on here to be a bit overbearing as well! =P

Hey...jerk. Your post is...dumb?

Yeah, I can't really say anything against your post haha That is true as well. Her review had the most I'd seen on the site, and at least 5 comments were from me and 4 from her alone.

This topic can also have a discussion of stories from you peeps as well! It isn't all about the Pandah =)

People get scared because they think they have a high Bluff skill. Most people who try to seem like an authority, or intimidating in any way, can't back it up, so they back down when called out. I dunno, common people are just cowardly like that.

I would like to rescind my comment of "no one ever really runs away from me". There is a first time for everything, and Hojo is big on irony.
