Why is it that people get so scared when someone confronts them about their opinion? Do they find no need to defend it? Or is it because they don't even know what the hell they're talking about in the first place?
You know, I had just that problem this morning...er *checks clock* make that yesterday morning. Anyway, I argued my point that SSBB for the Nintendo Wii sucks, but I gave reasons, I was polite, respectable-ish, and didn't flame anyone that disagreed, I just answered the posts and presented my arguements.

I was flamed by about seven people, one of whom called a mod on me who issued a warning. When I PMed the guy that reported me, he just said I was a troll and Ineeded to stuff it. I really expected better from the escapist posters, but what's done is done.
Eh, I'd just brush it off. It's happened to me as well. I could put on probation for something way back in the beginning of my days here. I don't even remember why. =P

No you go it for calling someone an "assnugget".
are you saying you'd be offended if someone called you an assnugget?cus thats not much of an insult, especially cus it stemmed from him saying my joke was stupid and pointless, which it wasn't cus i was just trying to make a thread less serious, without ditracting from it's main point.
Still it was uncalled for and enough people must have thought so too. Hence the probation.
both of our comments were uncalled for, now please drop it and get back on topic, else i'll be suspended for exspessing my opineon. again.
That's not an opinion. Opinions are about things that are open to interpretation. What is not open to interpretation is the reason you got put on probation: You called someone an "assnugget". Something you can have an opinion on would be, say "The legality of abortion" (just to pick something commonly debated). Since none of the reasons people give are hard-grown "fact", and all has to do with a sense of what you personally think is right and wrong, that is something you can have an opinion on. And you wouldn't be suspended for expressing an opinion (something you only briefly touched on in your initial post, though it was truly just thinly veiled complaining), you'd be suspended for derailing the thread.

OT: I honestly have never had an experience of someone "running away" from me in an argument. Part of that is the fact that I normally will concede points in the other person's favor, which tends to draw them back in a vain hope of converting me to their side. I (surprising as it is on the webbernet), tend to actually get in debates, rather than arguments. I like to come out of exchanges with new opinions and ideas.
Yeah, I was just trying to point out to her that she didn't understand certain parts of the film and I, myself, was trying to understand why she was going batshit insane over a simple brand name in a movie. She didn't like it too much.

What do you expect? People to see you complain about something completely unrelated in a comment on a thread you have no input for and not retaliate?

Seriously, your original post in this thread was just asking for it. My advice to you is to think more before you post.

Well, if one is to post a story, I had a diffrent cirumstance, but with a similar context, I was reading a review, the subject material eludes my mind at the moment, but I came across this poster, who had typed up an essay that nearly parreled my own thoughts, but I had one question about his review-and like all good readers, I asked said question, but never got an answer. Not quite the same problem as yours, but still has the leaving of the recipient.

It's not an opinion when you obviously insulted someone :p
No matter how much you argue, you did, in fact call him an "assnugget".
OT: Why do people even care about reviews? If you like something, you don't have to worry what other people think of it. It really only matters if you enjoyed it. I tell myself this all the time, but I can't do it.
I personally enjoy reading reviews to see how others felt about it, and comparing their tastes with that of my own. If someone hated a movie, but I didn't, I won't read many reviews from them because they obviously won't serve me well if I look to other reviews by them on stuff I may watch.

The things that irk me about reviews like the one I started this topic with is the fact that someone feels the need to bash something they clearly had no intention of ever liking or don't understand at all.

Excuse me? "Asked nicely?" You call saying "Stop attacking me, it's annoying" asking nicely? Good god... you're the one being self-righteous here. You're being rude to other members and instead of actually saying what you apparently meant. Which, by the way, calling people annoying is not admitting you were acting like an idiot. Saying "sorry, I acted like an idiot" is admitting you were acting like an idiot. And now, after I give you legitimate advice you call us all self righteous pricks.

Real smart.

EDIT: I guess I should contribute to the topic at hand, lest I seem a hypocrite. People who create any peice like that, whether it's art, a review, a song, or whatever, and don't accept criticism never go anywhere. Whenever I see people like that, I just turn away and ignore them, and 9 times out of 10 I never hear about them again.

I give this topic a profound sigh. Here's how it is, I'm going into grade ten this year(next month), meaning last year I was in grade nine(this is going somewhere I swear). In my previous year's english class, we often had debates...or rather our teacher tried to start debates between us. It usually ended with me or one of my friends saying something that either nobody understood or had no idea how to respond to. It was a boring semester I tell you.

This sort of thing happens to me all the time. And I really mean all the time.

I often leave such situations, but only when I realize it's a fruitless effort to have the opposing party see their faults, as they're too stubborn or ignorant (Or both) to understand my relatively simple arguments. That said, I've never had someone "run away."

Welcome to High School. Thats how it is all four years buddy. Thats how it was for all of my four years at least. I would have discussions with the teacher instead of the students at that point. The real funny ones though are the people that think they know stuff and when you come back with just one rebuttle, they have no idea what else to say.

College doesn't get any better, but at least they start off as debates....but devolve into arguments.

I do this at times too. People that just think they know it all(a.k.a. stubborn) aren't even worth talking to.

You can debate for as long as time itself specially in the Internet but if there isn't an impartial third party, there really is no point of continuing. Sometimes you just got to turn around and step away or risk getting baned.

OH and haven't you seen the SNL Weekend Update skit about the "Internet girl". Girls are already less likely to succeed due to their skills in math and science why is a 20 year old woman reviewing a movie shouldn't she have a blog about cooking.
I suck at math, so I wonder where SNL got their data from...and never listen to a 20 year old woman, she was probably drunk off her ass at the time.

I block people on youtube the moment they start saying things such as "Doesn't afraid of anything", but I noramly stand by what I say and debate it. If I didn't want to talk I shouldn't post, at the escapist at least.

You are the one talking about join date not anybody else.
I'll be blunt.
1) Nobody was attacking you.
2) You were punished for how you talked, not that you talked.
3) If you truely wish it to stop then don't post in this thread, you don't need to respond and if they keep pressing the issue then its them not you at fault.

EDIT: Please use better grammar, because "cus" is very annoying.

Sadly I know, well at least I took enriched english this year, maybe there will be enough intelligence in the room to keep a debate going longer than two seconds this time around.

Is this a trial by fire thread or an opinion on people that run at the first sight of someone questioning their taste in something, because I'd rather discuss the second one.

The reason that I see people backing away from people going calling them on something is for one of two reasons, reason 1 they just picked an opinion before seeing it and stuck to it without actually watching it. Or reason number two they just haven't figured out why they've hated it so much yet. I hate one of my friend's friend, I've hung around him enough to know that I hate him but I just don't know why.

We'd talk before and after class, and I'm certain she appreciated the fact that she had a non-moronic student. Then she discovered that I was smart and disagreed with her.
