Hey everyone, this is my first post on the escapist forums but I've been reading a few forums and it came to my mind, why does everyone hate Halo? I don't see anything wrong with it. Bungie has made a whole new universe that has spawned books, games and even machinima(which was good up to around last year, now we all wait for Rooster Teeth to make the next season of RvB). So this is my question, why do you dislike/like Halo?

Edit: So from what Im gathering it's...

1. People want to be cool and go against something popular

2. People play for 5 minutes, don't do well= hate

Because people like to hate popular things, because they want to feel awesome.
Or, because they don't like the games. A lot of people say "Halo sucks and it is terrible" after playing 5 minutes of it, which is a pretty bullshit claim, but to each their own.

Why do I like Halo? I find they're really fun games. More specifically I love Halo:Reach. Why? Well because it's fun singleplayer(something you don't see much of in FPSs) and has co-op. It also has some of the most fun multiplayer match types and maps. And recently, me and my friend have started playing Achievement Horse together. It just has so many more possibilities than just a regular run-n-gun game.

i think it's because its so popular that it just gains that certain discontent from people
but i love it

People hate it because its probably the most successful and popular mainstream game series of the last 7 years (i think its 7 years, i dont really remember). But the series kinda went downhill after the first halo. Halo CE was great, it completely revolutionized FPSs, but the games that came after were sub-par. They werent horrible, but they werent anything really new or overwhelmingly exciting. And i think people were pissed about the hype not living up to the actual games.

To me it's just boring and kinda bad. I played all the way through the first game and thought it was OK. Tried the second game and hated it. Just couldn't get into it. Same with 3. I do have to give credit to Reach for having some fun multiplayer but that's all I enjoyed about it.

And, even though it's been said, Master Chief sucks as a protaganist.

Obviously everyone doesn't hate Halo, it's a highly popular series. Personally I couldn't get into, though not through lack of trying. I just found it sort of monotonous.

I don't hate that it's popular, I hate it because I think the story is uninspiring pseudo-religious bullshit, with a main character that has no personality yet is treated as the end all of 'awesome' characters.

The multiplayer is fun though.

We've been through this before! Not everybody hates Halo, it is one of the most popular game franchises in the world and therefore people who don't like it think they're special and feel the need to be outspoken about it. Can we just leave it at that? It's annoying enough as it is.

Well, it's quite easy to pull apart the people who have played it and didn't like it and those who are quite ignorant and just like hating it because it's popular.

The ignorant ones insist that it's an overly manly series despite the fact that about half of the human characters are female. Or that it's too human centric despite the fact that the humans are joined by the Elites in Halo 3. Or that it's all grey and brown when the aliens dress in bright blue, red or gold and have purple space ships.

Why yes, Movie Bob does annoy me sometimes, what was your first clue?

I personally don't hate it, but i also don't like it. It may be because I've never actually had a real play of it (having a PS3 myself (no i'm not a fan boy)) but i remain indifferent to it.

I know many people say its one of the best games on xbox but i don't see whats so good about it.

But maybe thats just me...

PS: i have played it and i have also seen it being played by some one who is actually good at it, but it still does nothing spectacular for me.

It's the same reason I don't like the Seattle Seahawks: terrible uniforms. Also, all the hopping.

It's good mechanically. The multiplayer is fun (with the right people) and you can pretty much jump into it. It's an ok game but it's ONLY ok. All the people (very frat boy people) who have retarded out over it for the past 6-7 years are people who like mediocre things.

The story is crap, the characters are crap, the writing is crap. The layout is crap, hall after hall then an "ambush" in a room then more halls and repeat.

I would file Halo in the same region as Dan Brown novels, Harry potter and Micheal Bay movies. Things that are hyped to fuck, over produced and principally disappointing.

because it is a above average game that is getting more money then it deserves(just saying I actually like halo) but at least it is popular for the good things it unlike CoD which should be popular for it's single player, and the Co-Op missions in MW2, the Co-Op missions are the only reason I would get MW2, instead it's popular for a crappy and unbalanced multiplayer.

I don't play FPS online because I suck at them and just get stomped. When Halo 2 came out they seemed to have just given up on their campaign to push out their multiplayer. I liked the original because the campaign was so fun, the others just lacked that same feel to it so I just gave up on it.

I don't hate Halo, I just find it boring. I've tried to like it because of how popular it is, but I realized that what I was doing was insane, so I stopped.

My problem is mostly with the fans, because heaven forbid if someone doesn't like that game while everyone and their freaking pet loves it and won't shut up about it.

I want to actually make it clear and say that my post is more:
it's more popular then it should be
rather then the hipster thing.

I'd say the Halo hate has died down in recent years, it's all about the CoD hate these days.
