lately Ive been seeing a spike in jokes aimed at New Jersey, why there isnt anything wrong with it we have nice beaches and boardwalks all that stuff so why do shows like Futurama, American Dad, and Robot chicken make fun of it? your talking to a 100% pure bread jersey boy right here

**Edit** one thing i hate is going into a bar in NY/Pensy and assholes asking me to say "hawt dawg" and shit like that it makes me wanna pop them in the face

"Alright, I give up. What's the catch?"
"Oh, no catch, sir. Although we are, technically, in New Jersey."

Honestly, I have no idea. I think it might be because people who've never been there think it's worse than it really is.

Because most people only see the parts which border NYC/Pennsylvania, which is ugly and industrial. As a Central/North-New-Jersyan, I can tell you the rest of the state is not so bad (although South Jersey is close :) ).

New Jersey drivers suck lol. Not to mention that their roads suffer as well. And people from New Jersey are too cocky for their own good.

It gets progressively nicer as you go farther up north and it suits almost every type of personality, there isnt a place that isnt liveable, as for the disgustingness that your mum tells you about she was probably in Newark thats the worst place in Jersey

Eh, all states have something for them. NJ is just an easy target. You can make as many Alabama jokes about stupid rednecks as you want, but it's harder to slip into conversation than a dirty destroyed dystopia west of NYC.

Well as a Noo Yawkuh I am legally obligated to hate Joiyzey. I will say however from my experience with it, that it smells funny and is full of tollbooths and old people. They do have the advantage of having Casinos while still being able to maintain a safe distance from California though.

I'm not sure how this happened, or how it continues to happen, but it seems that New Jersey has been linked with a large part of the "douchebag" stereotype. Spiked hair, big chains, orange fake tans, wifebeaters, etc.

I've seen beautiful parts of New Jersey, and I've met plenty of wonderful people from the state. But for some reason that breed of "douchebag" doesn't seem to exist anywhere else.
Isn't that kind of douche half the population of California though?

That, in addition to the ugly industrial parts.

Just curious, how far south have you gone? The part bordering NY is disgusting, but it really is nice the further south you go (so long as you don't go too far south [/obligatoryNorthSouthRivalry]).

The only good thing I've heard about Jersey is that its females =/= trash. I've also heard that the only reason this comparison fails to hold water is because trash gets picked up.

But seriously, I have no idea.

Pff because it's New Jersey. And I'm a New Yorker as well.

Though I always say that due to its close proximity to NYC (it's only a river after all), thanks to NYC's overwhelming awesomeness atleast some of that awesomeness rubs off onto Jersey, making North Jersey atleast halfway decent.

Hell, I lived the first three years of my life in Jersey (Born in Manhattan though, so I'm still a pure-blood New Yorker).

Because no one in the damned state can drive.

I'm not really sure why NJ gets made fun of. I think it's just not a very interesting state(excluding some major historical events) compared to the ones around it, so it tends to get picked on.

Edit:

Quoted for truth.

I'm not just talking about the "gangsters", people from NJ tend to think they're better than anyone else. I meet people from other states and NJ is one of the most cocky states out there.
