Because, all you have to do is rhyme. The beat and everything is made electronically.
Anyone rap, here watch.

I live in the hood.
Don't ask me to bang that chick cuz I probably would.
I'm a rich ass, who still breaks the law.
You wouldn't believe the shit that I saw.
ect, ect.

You don't need to be able to play the guitar, bass, or drums. You just need to be able to rhyme.

Because people see Soulja Boi and think "He's a rapper". No, what he does is what I like to call "rough newspaper" music- I wouldn't wipe my arse with it.

But in all seriousness, why is there so much more rap hate than metal/screemo hate? I take the time to burrow through the shite of Pantera and similar so that I can listen to Alestorm, why can't you take the time to throw 50 to the side and pick some Lupe up?

If you take a minute to look at some of the polls about music, or that thread a few days ago about people who should be killed, rap and rappers get a kicking all the time.
Rap, like any other genre has sub genre's and aspects of rap truly annoy me, yet I love other aspects it, like NWA, Public Enemy, Run DMC, Eminen, Xzibit etc, yet I would not describe myself as an avid fan of it, I'm more of a metal head
I just feel that slating the whole genre because of a few annoying rappers is a bit ignorant
There are some good things in the genre it's just that quite a lot of it sucks ass!

Some people are better at rhyming than guitaring, and anyway, playing guitar isn't that hard, the it's not just saying exactly what's going on, rap can be used the same as any written or spoke medium to make political or cultural statement
Just because shit smears you hear on the radio don't say it doesn't mean it isn't being said

I lovelovelove rap. Every now and then you have to listen to a song that's shallow as fuck and rap music works! Tell Me When To Go by E40 is one of my all time favourite songs. Listen to that shit right now

A lot of rap that has things to say doesn't make it onto the radio, mainly because it's born from urban areas, full of poverty, violence and drug abuse making it not radio safe

Look at bands Rage Against the Machine, they took massive influence from rap

NWA's fuck the police is a social commentary about the persecution the band felt they were under, and the persecution they observed from the police to affluent members of the black community

I hate both extremes... I'll stick to my average rock thank you very much. And a bit of R&B. Ok stuff it anything from:

Linkin Park - Flo-rida I will listen to nothing further than those in either direction its just inaudible crap after that. (saying that Linkin Park is one of my more favourite bands)

Because it's easier to blame a genre than actually, y'know, look up an artist you've got beef with, listen to their album and then write a scathing review. So, laziness, basically.

As for me, I love hip-hop.

Exactly, what ever happened to Run DMC, what ever happened to Biggie Smalls?
Where did all these actually good rappers go?

I think this is the real reason.
I would like to second this statement. Also ask the OP what the cultural signifigance is of "Kiss me through the phone" and how you think it has made the world a better place?

There are certain rap influnced bands/artists/whatever that I do like. I'm a big fan of Rage Against The Machine, I kinda like Cypress Hill and there are songs by Eminem that I like. Even the Beastie Boys are a guilty pleasure.

Despite this, it's the vast (vast, vast) majority of mainstream rap that means that when asked, I do say that I don't like it as a whole. The stuff in the mainstream is just awful, that's probably why it gets a slating here.

That, and a lot of the people on the Escapist (if the music poll threads are anything to go by) are either into Rock or are Metalheads...

rap [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZaV-33XSHY] never left, it's just harder to find. That being said, I like a lot of mainstream/top 40 rap because it's fun to listen to. Sometimes you don't need deep lyrics or technical solos, you just need something you can dance to.

Oh, and disregard that anime in the second link. That was the only video I could find that had the actual song in it.

I agree, also Eminem's return was overhyped to a ***** (well maybe the album will overshadow the shite which has come out in singles)
