Mainstream rap was good and actually had a meaing to it. That was around the end of the '80s, early '90s. Now it's just words without a meaning, and a lot of curse words, jsut because it's cool. Hell, even Bobby McFerrin did better in his album "Beyond Words" which actually had no words, just some mumblings.

it doesnt matter how good the majority of something is, if a little bit is really bad it brings everything of that genre down

Because most of the people here will only listen to what's on the top 100 billboard of the week, or whatever, and believe that's all there is to music.

what ever happened to Biggie Smalls?
He was murdered (5 days short of 6 months after 2Pac was murdered) by the driver of a Chevrolet Impala, who shot him 4 times in the chest when his car was stopped at a red light.

Like I've said before- Gangsta died with him. No east-coast rapper can touch Biggie, no west-coast rapper can touch 'Pac. Stop trying.

Because its not very good.
EDIT: (In case you did not know I quoted you because I agree)
I broke my ankle, a year back or so.
Twisted it all the way around because I flipped the golf cart I was driving.

Now, I have a mild fear of golf carts.

Thats pretty funny, sorry.
How did you flip it? Going too fast?

For me it's because for every fairly decent piece of music that gets turned out there is forty tons of crap, plus I do not like the general lifestyle and attitude they are promoting. It goes beyond the antics of the "rock star" hysteria of latter years because you've got guys selling music based on how many times they have been busted for dealing drugs, or how many times they have been shot, and stuff like that.

I think the title "Get Rich Or Die Trying" sort of summarizes it. The basic attitude being that there is something wrong with being a normal person. Either you need to be ridiculously wealthy and obnoxious, or dead trying to get that way.

While I'm sure a lot of it is staged, when you've got dudes who release third rate music and sell it because of their image as career criminals (whether they are or not) walking around with tons of money and being jerks about it, I feel it's ridiculous. Heck half the time bands are argueing about who is a real criminal, and who isn't, and comparing how many times they can prove they were busted/shot/sent to jail, because generally speaking the more obnoxious they are, the more "real" all the crud in their music seems, and the more they sell even if the music is absolute drek, because Rap isn't really about the music but the lifestyle as much as anything.

Yeah, I'm happy that some dude who has been shot 3 times, spent 10 years in jail, and is an ongoing suspect in at least half a dozen murders or violent crimes, wears this record like a badge "since he can prove it" wanders around with a million dollars worth of jewlery, and poses in front of cameras holding ridiculous wads of cash while insulting me, or showing off what kinds of stupid things he can build into his house or car on like MTV.

Not talking about anyone in paticular (that's an amalgam of sorts) but I trust it makes my point as repetitive as this is.

If rap was just music I'd probably think differantly about it, but it's not.

There is good rap, its just that most of the mainstream stuff is undeniably bad.
Exactly, what ever happened to Run DMC, what ever happened to Biggie Smalls?
Where did all these actually good rappers go?
They got shot by shittier, less talented people

Technically 2 from that list retired, the other two got shot. It was only Jam-Master Jay who died from Run DMC, DJ Run and DMC are still alive and well.

It's kind of like that. After only hearing shitty (and they are shitty, no argument,) rap songs near constantly, I have an understandable dislike of the genre.
How in the world did you flip a golf cart? What were you doing, jumping a valley?

I didn't even bother reading the second page of comments.
What i gathered from the first page was...
-Because there is a lack of skill/talent.
-They don't have knowlege of music, that guy who doesn't know what a tempo is made me lol.
-The "Mainstream" lyrics are tripe.
-People don't want to dig through thousands of generic shit rap to find that one they might enjoy.

I agree with all these statements, primarily the skill one.
I listen to Deathmetal so i cop a fair amount of abuse from rap and RnB (lol nothing bluesy about RnB anymore) kids.
When any of those idiots can play Stabwound by Necrophagist or Never Again by All Shall Perish I'll admit they have skill.

Oh just another touch on RnB, it is no longer RnB in my view. More along the lines of R, because for the last time getting dumped by your boyfriend of 1 and a half months is not a call for Blues lyrics.
