WTF is with all these people theorizing rape by zombies?

These are /zombies/ they're here to either chew on you, or in the case of L4D, pound you to death with their feet and hands. They're not here to fulfill your rape fantasies, and not to bone you to death (though that would make the Tank MUCH scarier).

If her clothes are ripped, it's probably self-induced, wear and tear from her struggle to avoid infection, or ripped during the beatdown that infected her.

No idea why she cries, but I'm sure "rape by zombies" isn't it.

It's often interesting how much thought people would put into things like this. Ai always just thought it was the same as why all the other infected make the sounds they do...so you are aware of their presence (though not ever enough to pinpoint their exact location). That and combined with the music kicks in when you approach a Witch, it is quite creepy.

Because it's a video game. And it sounds creepy. Same reason evil children are creepy in horror movies. It's a noise you can recognize & a warning. The same reason the smoker coughs and the boomer glurps.

But in a more actual response, I would say it's because witches are infected that have retained some of their human thought and emotion, thus why she cries and then is horrified with herself when she kills a survivor.

That makes a lot of sense. Nice description.

there was a thread about it. the idea was tossed around that she had her period while the infection started, and the infection changed her to a witch. boomer = alcohol/or high fat. smoker = nicotine/or cancer. hunter = crack cocaine/or high testosterone. tank = steroids. not sure its true though but its the best theory i've heard reguarding the subject. i can't come up with a witty remark to finish the post off with, though.

That's actually a very interesting theory. It'll fall to pieces though when L4D2 is out. Unless someone gets very creative.
