So hey, how's the sociopathy treating you, nutjob.

Seriously. A kid?
You beat up a nine, ten year old kid, and you think you are justified?
With a fucking bike, no less. Jesus christ. What the fuck is wrong with you.
How old are you, anyway. I am hoping no older than fourteen, because seriously. That shit is not fucking okay.
It's wrong to do that to a full grown adult. Let alone a child.

Dude, you beat up a 9 year old kid. Even if he did swore at you, that was completely uncalled for.
In my city, what you did can be classified as ASSAULT.
Fallen-Angel Risen-Demon said:
That is completely unjustified, you shouldn't beat up anyone full stop let alone a stupid kid.
Pegghead said:
That's completely unjustified and violent, if I went through life assaulting everyone that insulted or injured me I'd be in jail for life by this point. He was only ten years old for goodness sake, I don't like to play the moral high-ground card but I hope you realize that that's what we call being an asshat.
At the time, I was ten years old myself.
I agree that it's unjustified, but I've always tried to reason with people before.
You know what that got me?
Bricks to the head. At the age of 7, by 16 year olds.
When I was 5, the children at my school broke my feet and beat me while I was down.
Where's the justice in that?
In your defense while I don't think any kind of violence is justifiable, I do think your situation was understandable. At a similar age I almost killed someone who had been bullying me for years, the bullying as such didn't stop but that individual never took the risk of being close enough to me for something similar to happen.

Thats all history now though, what worked for me when it comes to society as a whole is the realization that people are still fundamentally animals and that I had recently read "life of pi" a book I would recommend to anyone incidentally.

In essence a boy ends up trapped on a life boat mid Pacific with a fully grown tiger, minimal supplies and survives.

The book covers a lot of ground but it does include some things about pack behavior, social structure, dominance etc. I've learned to apply that to dealing with other people, in conjunction with some quick-witted-ness learned from watching good comedy and standup.

Why does it seem everyone has this impression?

The world is not that bad, Yes the mother is a *****, but that is a small part of life.
The old man was fine, YOU where the prick. If you cannot function in a world with people then YOU are the problem.
How was he the problem? He simply bumped into him, and the old guy assumed he was a terrible person just because of his age and proceeded to insult him. I've many times wanted to give some rude, self entitled old person who did something similiar a piece of my mind, but I've never had the bottle.

The thing is, none of those kinds of people are on the Escapist. The Escapist is possibly the kindest, most helpful online community I have ever had the good fortune to be part of.

OP, I figure you're a girl from the crying part. It's sad, I know, that people have become (have they? Or were they always like this?) so shit. But hey, it's not like you can do anything about it, nor do you have a say in the matter.

It's the parents that give the children their base upon which they build character. So what you can do is when you become a parent at some point, is make sure you teach them values. Also, try to not let it get to you and have an outburst to a random grampa, for whatever reason. Be calm and, most of all, be a bit thicker. I mean the Thing thick. If you let little things like these get to you, you're in for a mean treat when you get out to look for employment.

It's called modern society.

A bunch of uncaring, dispassionate, violent, selfish bunch of pricks.

You just gotta find the minority who aren't. It's difficult.
Pretty much this. Media etc have just made people feel way too self-absorbed, and as for old people, yes they do deserve respect because of their age, but certainly not the guy the OP encountered. Not everyone is like that though, and I have the best example of a 'respect your elders story'

Basically, some of the local troublemakers (Police cars outside the house on a bi-weekly basis) saw a guy in about his 50s walking down the road with a stick. They laughed, and went up, and one said "Got some pension for me old man?" Laughed, then looked at his friend. Turned his head back towards the older gentleman and received a sharp smack in the face from the stick - nearly KO's the kid.

Turns out the guy was an Ex-Parachute regiment Sergeant during the Falklands war, just been to the local Ex-serviceman's club.

Bad on the OP though for encountering the exact opposite of this situation though - a nice person encountering a total ass.

That is the reason people sometimes go on killing-sprees...

Well that seems like an awful lot of pricks to meet in one walk, but Im sure there were others on the streets than them?
Nah dude, it was the international prick convention at the mall that day, and all the nice people headed for the hills when they got the memo.

Society has not changed that much, there are letters from the 1600s that complain about these same kind of this but with better writing lol. Try not to get upset and just have fun with it. It's like I say, if you swim up-river against the current it will only tire you out and you will drown in a horrible, miserable, fashion. Go with the current and it will get you far. Sure have an opinion just don't share it with people that matter. Hope this helps lol :)

Those teenagers are my age, I hate the people my age. Most of them are smokers, sex addicts, drunks and one I knew is a (apparently) rapist (I wouldn't put it past him).
True enough. Teens our age suck. My younger brother kinda count as the above. He's book smart enough, but he's a prick too. If my group is any indication though, not all of them suck. All we do is play poker, Monopoly, and bowling when we stay out late. The most extreme thing we did was go to the doughnut store at 3 A.M. My mom doesn't buy it. I should carry a camera around with me one day. Young adults who don't drink, smoke, and have sex every night? Impossible!!!

Give yourself a pat on the back. Regardless of whether or not society is actually going to hell, we're not going with it. That deserves props in my opinion.

There is none. It still doesn't make it right to attack someone. An eye for an eye would make the whole world blind.
Way to scream at the possibly senile old man then.
I imagine dressing like a vampire lolita can get you such reactions from the elderly.
I had a bad day if anything I'm embarrassed at myself for doing that as I did say.
Still, both of us were in the wrong and the bulk of people would likely say he deserved it.

look, it's understandable you feel bad from having some bad experiences. But a lot of it is in your perspective.
firstly, the experiences you had are only bad if you perceive them that way, the first mother might be caring for an retarded child( which is inspiring enough on it's own i feel) by chastising a misbehaving older child. the second mother might be delighting in the fact that her older son is caring for his younger brother, and the old man while perhaps not being all that polite or reasonable might have been having as bad a day as you, or worse even, or he might be senile as was mention earlier in the thread, or perhaps there was some other excuse for his behavior

secondly, the fact that you're crying is too only bad in a certain perspective. Remember that crying means that you're in touch with your emotions which is more than a lot of people can say. plus the simple fact of being in touch with your emotions means you can deal with them and grow from your experiences.

thirdly, being afraid or uncomfortable outside your home is rarely good or particularly healthy, however it does imply that you have a safe and comfortable home. that however is a good thing and gives you a solid base from which to go out and get comfortable with the outside world. remember the more things you've seen the bigger whole is and the smaller the individual issue, and for every new thing you see you have a new way of looking at things.

Personally i've found that being positive makes me happy and makes me stronger as a person. remember that you can train your mind to a lot of things and that focusing on the bad will train your mind to seeing the bad things while focusing on the good will train your mind to see the good things.

well that was rather long and i hope it helps but,
in summary: things aren't necessarily as bad as they seem, and taking a positive perspective to things could make you a lot happier.

Many people are pretty lousy when it comes to perfection or doing the right thing all the time. People shouldn't be having more than 2 children so that the planet does become over populated.

People suck. Most kids need smacked upside the head and most adults need the stupid smacked out of them. I blame breeding for this problem. The more intelligent people only have one or two kids whereas the idiots reproduce like effing rabbits.

You are so right everytime I see something like that it reminds me why I try so hard to stay inside writing and not go out.

I live in one of the most racist places in England and I hate it when I see or hear people make assumptions about people in the street and shout these things to them!

It makes me mad to see people do that to other humans who are exactly the same as them, the same goes when i see perents hitting or shouting at children in the street for what I see as no a good reason at all. Or perents not disaplining the children when they act up in public.

All this does is keeps me inside and keeps me writng more and more each day!

Seriously, it's a matter of not letting it get to you.

It won't stop anytime soon, and if you let it get to you, then you'll just become some misanthropic prick. This world is worth living and being a part of, you just have to find something that really connects with you, and let the other bullshit fall by the wayside.

Welcome to my world. There are two explanation's for this.
1) If you're in england, that's most likely the problem.
2) Modern Society doesn't like niceness. You gotta learn to kick everyone's ass before they kick yours. Beat them to it. Show who's better and quicker at being tough.

Discussion value? How does situations like this make you feel?
Honestly, I don't let it get to me as much as I did. A few years ago I may have gotten pissed. Not so much, nowadays.

I know it sucks sometimes having to deal with people, but remember to always have someone there for you. Whether it'd be family or friends. When you're in a pinch, they can help.

I almost forgot......................

*hugs*

Other then that, I don't know what else to tell you.

Well, atleast random people don't start laughing at you cause you're in a wheelchair. That happened to me once. It was quite unpleasant, but whatever. You sometimes just come across pricks who don't care about anything or anyone but themselves. Just ignore them ;).

I haven't seen anything like that happen, I have seen a random couple twats who yell fag at me, but nothing like that. Just remember, while there are a lot of douche bags in this world, there is still a lot of good in it.
