With an avatar like this what do you think? Yeah I like it but I can see where others come from. Something my mate once told me:

"Where the men look like women and the women look like whores."

I lol'd.

That said though some Japanese cartoons are great, having more to them than just an excuse for lady flesh. Naruto's expansion on its concepts of 'Chakra' lifeblood are pretty cool I think.

Because we are allowed to have different opinions?

Because the few I like such as Cowboy Bebop and Gurren are in a minority?

Because most anime are more interested in creating a show about young girls, who are Goddesses, and are in love with awkward young men, who are not having any sex for some brooding reason, while they casually doodle all day long without paying rent or any taxes to the Government?

Because most of them don't make sense, even when giant robots are included?

Honestly, if you don't see the sorry state the current trend MANY shows are following in the Japanese animation area, then I don't know what to say...

because people are allowed to like whatever they want and maybe its just not their cup of tea. Like I know smart people that dont like video games but I dont go try to convince them that video games are an artistic medium and a lot of really insightful.

But of course theres also people that dont even want to try it because its not the "norm" so they really cant say if they hate it or like it because theyve never tried it

because its cartoons and some people hate cartoons, I call them terrorists
And we don't negotiate with terrorists...

OT: Anyway, I don't like anime(LOVE CARTOONS). I'm perfectly ok with others liking it, but I just don't.

Maybe its just the stereoypical anime stuff that turns me away.

Then again, maybe because its always on when I'm asleep.

Why is it so hard to understand why people don't like anime?

Anime is a thing. It exists in reality and thus it's bound by law to split opinions to a lesser or greater extent.

Some people like liquorice, some don't
Some people like The Escapist, some don't
Some people like harmonicas, some don't
Some people like porn, some won't admit that they do
Some people like anime and some don't.

If you are looking for actual reasons, there are as many as there are people involved in the discussion.

"Scrawny 90 pound anorexic 12 year-olds out-muscling trained 300 pound muscle-bound wrestlers," to name one reason I dislike anime...out of, like, seven million. But I'm cooking right now and don't have time to list the other six million nine hundred ninety-nine thousand, nine-hundred ninety-nine reasons. Maybe later.

Because I've always preferred Western animation. Called me prejudiced, generalising, whatever you want, the style of anime just annoys me.

Plus, I've never gotten away from old Western cartoons. Whenever I consider watching one, I usually just decide to go and watch Animaniacs or Darkwing Duck instead.

I like anime, but to interrest me that's gotta be something that sound really good, because I not gonna waste my time watching every piece of shit that comes out.
And I don't like the ones who are too damn long or that sound that never end just like Naruto or One Piece. I am too selective about it but fuck that i have shit to do...

A vast majority of the ones I saw were awful. The melancholy of haruhi suzumiya ranks at number 1 of the worst animes I've seen.

Most people don't get to know really good uncut, nicely subbed or dubbed animes and aren't interested to involve themself into the subject. Thats understandable and absolutly ok of course. I'm just sad that animes have a bad stigma around them and you will be poorly rated by other people if you say you watch them.

I'm just not into it. It's not my thing, y'know? The overall style kind of turns me off...

EDIT: I like Pokemon and Digimon, but that's because I grew up watching them.

Give me a Region 1 DVD player and I happily would. Stupid UK having to be all different...
All we get is Ducktales and Chip N' Dale's Rescue Rangers. They're good, but nothin' on ol' DW.

Most people out side of anime think all of it is like the main ones everybody knows like: Naruto, Bleach, Pokemon, FMA, etc. They fail to see the variety and intrest.

I also think most anime fan are also at fault from alienating it from other people. Some are very closed minded and hail anime as the best thing ever and if somebody doesn't like it they're stupid. Of corse many people might not like because of the style and cultural differences, but I've gotten a few people to at least watch some anime movies and series to people who were supposedly uninterested in it; just by casually mentioning the story and hopefully if they're interested they'll watch it.

I don't like anime, and it's mainly because I don't watch it. I don't go out of my way to find the mature complex stuff, my only experience with it comes from occasionally stumbling on episodes of Naruto aired on Cartoon Network, I usually watched a minute of it before changing the channel in disgust.

Probably not the best representation for decent anime, believe it.
I think this is the general idea. People already have perception of it (see that god awful anime parody on GTA IV). They usually only see it as that way with no variation: big-titted girls in skimpy outfits fighting in giant robots with seizure inducing (and cheap) backgrounds or something.
Since people usually view it as that they think that only mouth-breathing basement dwellers can enjoy that sort of thing. Since they don't want to be viewed as a basement dwelling mouth breather, they avoid it like the ebola virus. No one wants to be an alpha-nerd. Same thing with D&D (not that I play it, just an example).
I watch like, but lately I've been dling more than watching. Of course there are things I dislike about it: 20 girls wet for some random guy with no personality, shit that's all ecchi and no substance, sometimes serieses go on for way too long, and other reasons probably (sometimes serieses are just stupid or repulsive).

How many episodes does it take before I can say gave it a shot?

Most are stupid. Where a kid can beat well trained adults
Usually unfunny and annoying chirpy characters that cause violent outbursts
Half the time I find it kinda creepy
and it's always so predictable

Obviously there will be exceptions to the rules but I haven't found one and I don't want to spend time looking for the exception

Because of the different tastes and opinions of the world.

NAAAH. It's all a global conspiracy to destroy Japanese cartoons with nagging and they do it because they got molested by Sephiroth!!!
