So, I have had my first day at a college, of ICT level 3 practitioner that I will be attending for the next year. The course involves learning how to work databases, learn programming, hardware, server work and graphics (Websites). Its gonna be hard work and sacrifice, especially since I have a job as well (extra $ to spend on Warhammer).

Now, when I first came into the class a certain view overpowered my tired eyes. 50 % of my class were the douche bag 'chav' types, which you Americans call 'Brahs' and 'Jokeys'.

Can someone tell me what the actual fuck are they doing here?

These guys are way to bloody busy talking about football, getting piss drunk on parties, playing shitty games on Facebook and being general douches in the class (Asking stupid questions, and distracting other people). Seriously, these guys have probably never cared what's actually inside an Xbox that they love so much (Bloody Modern Warfare...) and probably never will! Its not like they are going to pick up any damn chicks! The other half of the class is basically guys like me, who just want to get the work done and actually learn!

I thought I would be able to stand up and say "Actually, GTX 230 is a much better graphic card than blah blah" without getting shitty remarks on how nerdy I am.

I will not allow this, this is my territory where -I- am the motherfuckin' King.

No more Mr. All-too-shy-guy.

I will actually argue back, and make sure they feel 'out of the group' if they start pressuring me or make shitty remarks.

Wish me luck guys!

[MASSIVE UPDATE] : Hmmm, this is useful actually. I guess I had a thought over all of this, and I am taking back everything about the 'True Gamer' since I watch Extra Punctuation, and you guys just reminded me of that. The speaker of the show would not be proud of me...

Also, you guys are right. I will just ignore the chavs, group along with other like-minded fellows and stay quiet.

I still won't take shit from though, all of that will be reported asap and consequences will be drawn. I will be doing this not basis of the 'True gamer' but on the basis of 'I don't take shit from anyone' and won't let anyone bully me.

And yeah, as someone here said, they will probably drop out or something (Not wishing though) so I will just work hard.

Thanks guys :)

Edit : I forgot to tell you guys that College in UK is not actually College (University). Its one step before that, and its also free.

My elitism senses are tingling...

If the university accepted them, then they have every right to be there.

Sir, its not really about what they can do and what they cant. I also believe in giving people a chance in education, but its the behavior that drives me mad. It makes me AND my fellow collegues absolutely bonkers!

That's exactly it. It's how the world works. They've as much a right as you to study there, if they don't study, they'll fall through, otherwise you'll just have to put up with it *shrugs*.

No, I'm not going to wish you luck, because you're being really pretentious.

'Proper gamers'.

That notion can fuck right off.

...or you could, you know, just focus on getting your work done the best you can and ignore them while they act like assclowns and fail.

PS, trashing people who play Facebook games and Modern Warfare just makes you look like a douche.

Yeah...
Good luck on the class, but I think you should be a little more accepting of your classmates.
They're there to stay, so you may as well warm up to them.

I also really don't like the whole "true gamers" thing.
What if the only series I ever played was Final Fantasy?
Would that make me any less of a gamer?
What if I only played Mario, or only had a wii?
What if I carried around a SEGA Nomad with me and that was my only way of playing games?
Would you call me out for that?

OT: Now now its never a good idea to get into an argument with a moron, its a lost battle from the start and all you'll do is piss off the douchbag half of the class and then the other half may or may not be on your side and then a civil war will happen in your class. Actually that sounds pretty awesome so you can go right ahead and do whatever you want.

But I'm assuming you have girls in your class right, now in my main class I don't have any girls in my class and my entire class except for 3-4 are people like you just described but they'll all flunk out by next semester so no damage done.

Ah yes, I had the same problem, lucky for me it was only one guy so he pretty much got sent out the moment he started misbehaving, he dropped out in ~2 months, so just hold out, they will drop out at some point soon.

I agree that they can be frustrating, but you are ovvereacting.

And "Proper gamer" doesn't make sense. A game is a form of entertainment, if you are entertained by games, you are a "proper gamer"

Behaviour, like classifying people who like things you don't as 'not gamers'?

Yeah. You may want to stop digging.

Guys, what I meant with Facebook and Modern Warfare, is that its the 'only' game they seem to play.

For me its like going to a Chinese Restaurant, and only eat prawn crackers! There are so many things to try out, but no, they have to be 'popular' so they only play these things. Also, these guys tend to mock you for not playing it or not liking it, again calling you a 'lifeless' nerd.

Also, I am a straight PC gamer, a kind that seems to slowly die off nowadays...

EDIT : Also, the 'King' is figure of speech. Nothing more

Sir, you are being a bit pedantic right now, to be honest. What I meant is that they are bullies and distract other people from doing work, I hope you can see at least that...

I've felt your plight, but I don't feel for you. Seriously, your post makes you sound worse than they are.

Trust me, I know that there are always people that make you wonder why they are even there in the first place, but the best thing to do in that case is just ignore them and move on. They won't be in your life forever. Just deal with it.

Personally, if I were in class with you and you had this sort of attitude towards anyone, and expressed it outwardly, I would probably give you a weird look. Because that's just uncalled for. And yes, I agree with most people's sentiments about the "proper gamer" bit. I mean, who died and made you the end-all of that definition?

The point of free education is good and the results are generally also good but you seem to have yourself in a predicament there so I challenge you. Make friends with all the other non-pricks and together get excellent marks and don't bother acknowledging the pricks. Hopefully they'll drop out but yeah... If the uni accepted them then they must have the marks surely? I don't know what the system in the UK is but for Aus you need the marks even though it is free (well you pay for it later if you earn over the average)

LAST NOTE : For all people that play only Modern Warfare type games, Facebook games and dare to call themselves a 'proper gamer'. News flash, you're not!
See this?

This is the reason I'm going to ignore your entire post.

Yes, pedantic. That's what I would be if I were nitpicking, which I was not.

You completely right off a segment of your class as 'chavs' before even getting to know them, and then proceed to right off people who play games you don't like as non-gamers.

Not exactly pedantic is it.
